Rangers at Hurricanes … It’s Go Time!

Game 8

Rangers at Hurricanes – 7:30 PM MSG

No poll after the game until I can figure out how, if I can ever figure it out.  This is clearly a half-assed venture. Feel free to list your three stars in the comments and I’ll do my best to aggregate them into a list.

Tonight’s probable lineup for the Rangers (5-2)

Jimmy Vesey-Derek Stepan-Rick Nash

Pavel Buchnevich- Mika Zibanejad-Mats Zuccarello

JT Miller-Kevin Hayes-Jesper Fast

Brandon Pirri-Oscar Lindberg-Michael Grabner

Ryan McDonagh-Dan Girardi

Marc Staal-Kevin Klein

Brady Skjei-Nick Holden

Pavel Buchnevich returns to the lineup in place of Josh Jooris, who will be out 3-4 weeks with a separated shoulder.  Kreider is improving but will miss tonight’s game and Sunday at a minimum.  When he returns, that’s when things will get interesting.

McIlrath cleared waivers today and was assigned to the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack. Clendening remains Prucha’d.

Lundqvist in goal tonight and probably Sunday against Tampa as well.

For the Hurricanes (1-3-2), Jeff Skinner will be a game time decision.  Last year’s Ranger slayer Lee Stempniak will be in the lineup for Carolina and willlikely play with Skinner if Skinner is healthy enough to play.  If not, former Ranger Viktor Stalberg will appear in Skinner’s place. Cam Ward is in goal.

Once again, a personal note, thank you so much for joining me here. If I can make this blog even half as good as Carp’s, I’ll be pretty damn proud.

I will probably be watching this one on a bit of a delay, so don’t expect anything from me during the game itself, or if I do tweet, expect it to be about stuff that happened a long time beforehand.

Don’t forget to tell everyone you know and to follow me on Twitter @rangersreport2

  1. Poll Info: Doodie, after some poking around, I’m almost certain that for the old Rangers Report format, and even the new format, that a service called polldaddy was used to create the polls. Apparently it integrates into WordPress sites. polldaddy.com/
I took screenshots of the code where I saw it was polldaddy, but can’t attach a pic here, so placed it on my site:

  2. Dan, thank you for doing the leg work. I was going to scrape the info from Carp’s site if I ever found the time. Now, I just have to learn how to integrate it. Poll daddy, eh? I’ll give it a look later tonight.

  3. Looks like a free service for personal usage, but also has packages that cost $ per month. There are also other vote/survey plugins from WordPress if that one doesn’t work or costs $. Haven’t used any though. Not a WordPress expert, but have some knowledge and can try and help if needed.

  4. Bunch of seats dressed as fans here…I’m told it gets worse as season progresses. By NY fans are representing quite nicely…more LGR chants than for Canes. Oh, and only do people sing to the anthem here, the don’t cheer until it’s over??!!!

One the first goal by the figure skater, Klein was picked by a cane behind the net, staal just stood there at the post and watched the whole thing…that’s all on trs not Klein

  7. Absolutely inexcusable tell this freaking goalie make a save. Somebody find skinner. These goals can’t happen in final seconds of period. Game over

  8. Not watching-at the Ducks game but 3 goals on 14 shots? Does not sound good. Henrik is not having the same start to this season as he did last season.

Not disagreeing re Klein, just saying first goal not his fault.

8+ mil per season for goalie=stooopid

Second figure skater goal due to lost faceoff, sleepy Klein, soft goal by 8+ million dollar man.

  12. This will be a good loss for them. They can watch film of how they were trying to get cute all night instead of just sticking with what’s won them 5 of the first 7 games.

  13. It’s an early season game like this, down a goal in the third, off a difficult buzzer ender. Good test for a somewhat young team. They’re moving their feet well. Let’s see if they can produce against a goalie that seems to elevate his game, wherever it is, against NYR.

  14. Zibanejad just snake bitten tonight. Have noticed Hayes a lot in this game. not sure if it’s a good thing. a lot of trying too hard to make a big play tonight

  15. Oh and Wick, if you’re in the mood to beat up on Step a little tonight just let me know I’ll join you for a change. Another guy that didn’t get the memo that he’s allowed to put it on net.

  16. You know Mcilrath could have taped a puck to his face and dove head first into Lundqvist’s net tonight and he wouldn’t have been as bad as some others trying to break out of their zone…

  17. They could win the next 10 games by a combined score of 100-0 butIf Girardi is the #2 dman on this team either in reality or in the coach’s head, they aren’t going anywhere this year

  18. I wonder if Nash will say he’s gotta do a better job during the post game interview…Also, I’m thinking Zibanejad with Fast and Miller may be a real line at some point in this coach’s head

  19. Agreed, James. impressive at his level of development. Agreed, too, that #5 is not a #2, at this point. He’s not Redden yet, but has a long way to go to be anything but a 5 or 6, to me.

  20. This is a game where the rangers needed a few big hits and serious physical forechecking to get some emotion going, but this idiot coach doesn’t believe in physical play or players so….

  21. I’ve gotta get this bad taste out of my mouth.
If this team continues to pay the way they played tonight and in the first period against Boston, this is going to be a looong week. Tough teams ahead.

  22. I’ll go with Zucc, Miller and Skjei.

On Sunday, they should go back to:
    McDonough Holden
    Staal Klein
    Skjei Girardi

Forwards need to come back in the zone for the beeakout. Enough of this home run garbage. It leads to turnovers and then you wind up chasing guys around.

  23. People on social media pinning this loss on Holden and screaming to bring back Clendening because has the #1 Corsi on the team. lol

Its like that movie “Idiocracy”. “It’s got electrolytes.”

  24. As I recall, the seasons where we did well, the boys didn’t hit their stride until around December. I also recall Hank hitting his stride in the beginning of the season last year and fizzing out early. I get aggravated too, but, be patient everyone. It’s a long season.

  25. Rangers didn’t want to get dirty. Definitely miss THE Kreider. Staal who had been mostly ok so far seemed to have a poor game. Holden eh..does it really matter which of those he puts in? The advanced stats derps need a chill pill for sure. HL – 8M+ guys taking most cap on the team really need to step up. Sorry that I don’t kiss the ice he skates on and do still wish they had flipped him out and kept Cam (and all that cap space). Hey remember last year all the whining about AV not playing Etem instead of TG? Etem waived by Ducks the other day… after being waived by Van. Another 2010 busteroo.
