Rangers at Oilers … It’s Go Time! *UPDATED*

Game 16

Rangers at OilersFlames -9:30 PM MSG

First, I want to thank E3 for his awesome review of last night’s game. No volunteers for tonight, so I’ll do what I can for a review tomorrow. Clearly, this is an HAV.

Tonight is the second game of this four game road trip, three of which are in Western Canada, all in four nights. They started tremendously with their first two periods in Calgary, albeit the third was a bit of a let down.  They will need to be strong for three periods against Connor McDavid and the Oilers.

Tonight’s probable lineup for the Rangers (11-4):

Michael Grabner-Derek Stepan-Rick Nash

Pavel Buchnevich-Mika Zibanejad-Mats Zuccarello

Jimmy Vesey-Kevin Hayes-J.T. Miller

Brandon Pirri-Oscar Lindberg-Jesper Fast

Ryan McDonagh-Dan Girardi

Marc Staal-Brady Skjei

Nick Holden-Kevin Klein

The big news of course is Chris Kreider was sent home to New York this afternoon with what is being described as an “upper body injury.”  AV said it was unclear whether it was related to his neck spasms.  Red hot Michael Grabner moves up to the first line and Oscar Lindberg gets back into the lineup on the fourth line.

Antti Raanta gets the start in the second night of a back to back with travel in between. Adam Clendening remains Prucha’d, which is a mild surprise given AV’s earlier resting of Girardi. Pavel Buchnevich is a late scratch after warmups. Adam Clendening is in.  Going to be an interesting night.

For the Oilers, (9-5-1), Connor McDavid has gone 7 games without a goal, including the prior meeting with the Rangers in which he had a goal disallowed.  Cam Talbot gets the start.  Their lineup is pretty similar to when they played the Rangers, except Milan Lucic and Patrick Maroon have switched places.

Don’t forget to tell everyone you know and to follow me on Twitter @rangersreport2. And don’t forget to vote!

  1. Zucc has been their best forward for a while. Grabnr is scoring, but every time Zucc gets the puck, he is dangerous, and he creates something out of nothing. And I haven’t seen him being as responsible in his own zone as he’s been this season.

  4. LITTLE JOHNNY IS BACK:
    > The teacher asked the class to use the word “fascinate” in a sentence.
    > Molly put up her hand and said, “My family went to my granddad’s farm, and we all saw his pet sheep. It was fascinating.”
    > The teacher said, “That was good, but I wanted you to use the word ‘fascinate,’ not ‘fascinating’.”
    > Sally raised her hand. She said, “My family went to see Rock City and I was fascinated.”
    > The teacher said, “Well, that was good Sally, but I wanted you to use the word ‘fascinate’.”
    > Little Johnny raised his hand, but the teacher hesitated because she had been burned by Little Johnny before. She finally decided there was no way he could damage the word “fascinate,” so she called on him.
    > Johnny said, “My aunt Carolyn has a sweater with ten buttons, but her tits are so big she can only fasten eight!”
    > The teacher sat down and cried.

  5. I’ll say this, I think it was pretty crappy of AV not to give clendening a few shifts. I get they were short forwards, but why even dress the guy.

  6. Hands up if you had Grabner to be a) the first Ranger to 10 goals or b) to even score 10 goals all season ?

Nope? Me either!! I would have said B for sure!!

  7. Good morning, boneheads!
You have to like what they did last night. Easy to come up with excuses, back to back games, late scratch due to inhjury, playing with 11 forwards, and so on.
They came in, dominated early, scored enough goals to win, defended the rest of the way. 2 points.
As for Edmonton. They keep adding top shelf talent and appear to be ready to make a little noise. But they still have no defensive structure. How’s that possible?

  8. Btw, Danny G leads the Rangers with THREE GWG so far this season.

He has more gials than Stepan has all year and as many as Zika and THE.

    Comeback player of the year?

  9. Does Clendening gate his skates sharpened again after last night? Those warm up turns can dull the blades.
    .
If the Earlers his some of those open nets, it could have been 5-3 loss.
    .
Thought Holden had his best game last night, only one mess up with puck and played hard in his own end.
    .
How does a team with too many forwards have to dress 11? Must have been a crazy Saturday night in Calgary.
    .
Pirri at C and Lindberg at F?? thought Oscar looked tight, not ready to play yet.
    .
Do they have anyone in Hartford who could play 4th line forward? Hmmm…can you think of any???

  10. I’m wondering whether Kreider needs back surgery or something equally as severe? Also, the Buke thing doesnt sound positive!
Now will be a big test without 2 top9 wingers, can the scoring continue?

  11. Don’t know if it’s already been mentioned, but how often have you seen the Rangers score after pulling the goalie on a delayed penalty? It’s now happened twice this season and I can’t remember it happening before that.

  12. Yep, Clinton has called up the Ecuadorian embassy to see if they’ve got any room at the inn, but Assange is not keen to share, even though someone offered him a nice condo in Stockholm…..

  13. Brooks ranking the top 90 Rangers of all time. He has Tax Free a little high for my liking. He did say one thing about him that I agree with, Tax Free should have found a way to be a Ranger for life.

  14. BDL – as much as at the time i’d have liked him to sign, that £5.8m cap hit for a 3rd liner who struggled to get 28 points in 73 games last year and is off to a flyer with a single assist in 7 games to start another injury-shortened season….yeesh! Bullet dodged!! (Albeit with the loss of draft picks, but still…another 3.5 years of that???)

  15. AV in the locker room! Boys if Kreider is out long term only Tanner Glass has the speed, drive and scoring touch to replace him on the wing. Let’s get him up here!

  16. Hey gang, I’ll put up a new post when we get a little more information on Kreider, Buchnevich, and any potential call up.

I only saw the first period last night. It seems tat from reading some of the game reports that the remainder of the game was tilted heavily in Edmonton’s favor. Can anyone confirm?
