I find myself rooting for Denmark this WJC. Last year it was Finland. Don’t think I’ll have the same end result rooting interest.
Eli, in an off year, three for 4,000 yards for the third consecutive season (6 of his career), and 26 touchdowns. He also completed 63% of his passes. After a while you get very tired of the Eli bashing.
Eli’s 63% CPR is nothing to brag about. With little running game, he is trying to get to third and manageable by passing for 3 or 4 yards at a time. McAdoo, IMO, has succeeded in ruining Eli’s game. Thank the GM that they actually have a defense this season. Without it, they are a 6-10 team, sorry to say.
Yotes always improving …Duke only has 3 goals so the trade for a long gone Yandle wasnt that bad . plus he would have stole a spot from one of our awesome 🍪’s ..errr rookies
Eli, back to pass. Packers D line wants to rush, Eli throws it away to avoid the sack – which wouldn’t have happened for another 4 seconds. Second down. Eli hands off to Jennings up the middle, no gain. 3rd and ten. Eli with the shut gun draw to Jennings – no gain. 4th down. Punting unit comes on.
This is going to be a looong sit on the can until tomorrow night’s game 🙂 Interesting that the Rangers called up a forward on an off-day as opposed to waiting until tomorrow. Looks like the flu bug might be rearing its ugly head among the Flu-shirts.
D’Angelo of Yotes get suspended for physical abuse of official. I guess the league decided he shot the puck at the official but he wasn’t the guy who went to the box.
Wicky – that was a faulking amazing tip of the left foot, up and over the outstretched goalie, into the back of the net. Reminded me of the underpaid Ranger Center, #21, D-Rack Stepan, tipping one in vs Ah two Wah, the other night.
If someone is sick, it def has to be someone who’s good (Kreider, Miller, Zucc) and there’s virtually NO chance it’s someone who’s not very good (Fast, Hvrick, Pirri).
When Christie does a cannon ball into a swimming pool, the water jumps out while he’s still in the air. Mind you the gravitational pull on his unskelatal frame has him landing in about a micro second.
eddie opens at the Holiday Inn off Route 9 for Ron Duguay who will be singing ‘Dream a Little Dream of Me,’ Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered,’ and ‘Be Careful, It’s My Heart.’
They seek him here, they seek him there.

It will make or break him so he’s got to buy the best.

He’s a well respected man about town doing the best things so conservatively.
Loved Erixon. Agree Fast is not in his league, at least not yet, but checking the numbers: Erixon never scored 10 in a season, Fast’s pro-rated career goals are the same, and Erixon only hit 30 points once, same as Fast. Erixon could pass a little, though, and he was Selke through and through. We’ll see how Fast, a later bloomer, develops.
You’re killing me E3. Along with your septic tank.
Tomorrow starts my month of sobriety- pretty much the only way I lose weight these days. Had my final Bloody Mary this morning. Gonna be a long month.
Headzo – good luck with all that. I don’t drink as much anymore but vacation always brings out the best. Been drinking some delicious brew/skis lately. Hear you on losing weight. I wish I could lay in bed eating food all day long. Put on 3 or 4 hundred. pounds. I like to watch people run marathon races on tv. I don’t burn many calories that way but I do feel better about myself.
When Skidney says Fast is the most difficult opponent he’s ever faced, the way Mario did about Erixon, then you can make that comparison. Not until then.
Exison was the classic shut down 3rd line center back when the bruisers played on the 4th and the checkers on the 3rd. He had the Hands of Stone like Roberto Duran and Fast was the point. That and being Swedish.
I thought Troy Mallette was the best player Mario played against.

Great point that Erixon is to Lemieux as Fast is (not) to Crosby, except that I can’t stand thinking of Lemieux and Crosby sharing anything other than the same jersey. Lemieux would be the best player in history if it weren’t for that other best player in history. Crosby is excellent, but no Lemieux.
So you guys think that in 3 seasons that Lemieux has missed, he’d have scored 1134 points? Because that’s the difference between Gretzky’s all time points and Lemieux’s. I don’t know about that…
La Mew was a big cry baby. Wah wah I got slashed on the hand and its fractured. Wah wah. 5 minute penalty for hurting Mar E. Oh. (Doesn’t miss a shift)
Lemieux had a better goals-per-game and assists-per-game by a considerable margin, but those likely would have gone down if he’d had to endure the full-season grind throughout his career. I wish I’d gotten to see him play. (I was lucky to see Gretzky in his prime a couple of times–utterly breathtaking the difference between him and anyone else on the ice, and this is when he had Messier and Coffey on board.) Both players were miles apart from the competition.
Gretz said that the Monday after DJ lost the Open, he and a couple of family members teed it up without asking DJ since they thought the golf course was the last place he wanted to be after the devastation. DJ caught up with them with his clubs on the 2nd hole and said ‘you don’t like me anymore?’
TGO said later that “If I ever lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, I wouldn’t want to skate around with a bunch of amateurs the next day.”
FG – that was me with the post of The Mallet’s hammering of Pepe Lemieux. Loved JD’s breakdown and the 3 or 4 replays in slo mo.
These days the linesmen are bouncers and MSG Production shows Bazooka Joe or some random fan every mild dust up.
Those were the days my friend…

Duclair is a first ballot HoF’er. He’s having a huge year. Prolly finish with 8 goals, 11 assists….that’s almost 20 points….third in the league this year, I’d expect.
Another thing about TGO that nobody talks about. He had Marty McSorey on hi wing for long stretches. Perhaps the greatest goal scorer the game has ever seen. That’s why gretz had all those assists.
Great to see those lists, Carp. Still hard to believe. You did leave out the goals, though, fun to be reminded what a stud Hull was. And Lemieux, I agree, was never quite as good, but a pretty firm second place if you ask me.
Yup, Mario was in the conversation. But clearly No. 2 (I said No. 2). Maybe the second or third-best player I ever saw (Bobby Orr being the other). I’d go Gretzky, Orr, Lemieux …
I probably told this story before. … My wife and I were vacationing in Quebec. There were these tours — actually just a van with a tour guide — to various points of interest and some great water falls, etc. … Anyway, it’s us and a couple from Pittsburgh. The tour guide/driver obviously from Quebec. They start this conversation about how Mario is the best player ever, much better than Gretzky, and quite emphatic. I of course disagree completely, but understand it’s a no-win for me to get into an argument with people from Pitt and Quebec. So after they’d wagged their tongues for a while, the driver asks me, “so what do you think, sir? Mario or Gretzky?”
I thought for a second and said, “Ah, I don’t really follow hockey.”
Great story, BTW–I never heard it before. Wish I’d thought of that response back in the day, when I used to waste my breath speaking with my Pittsburgh buddies on the topic. I used to think I was biased because I envied the Penguins, that I was somehow blinded to Lemieux’ greatness. But Gretzky was better. And Orr was a god, but the eras were so different.
Great story carp. My cousin’s wife is from Pitt and my cousin converted to being a pens fan. I’d hate them so much if it weren’t for them being so nice (and family of course 😀)
how in holy he11 does anyone convert their fanhood? What kind of prescription nerve blockers do you need to be on in order to wrap your brain around short-circuiting your love for your real team and pretending to fall in love with a new team? Short of getting back stabbed by your team leaving Ebbitts Field for Chavez Ravine, that is.
I remember when many of my Yankees buddies became Mets fans in ’69. I was in grade school, and so I thought it was the greatest betrayal a person could commit. I am almost ready to forgive them.
Can you imagine how much a player today would want to be paid if he was scoring 75 goals per year? Now, they think they’re a super star if they get 75 points!
E Kane could be available at deadline, if not before. Obvious baggage and with a young team and all, but the Commish has to do some homework and see if he could be a fit with his tool set. If Sabres include Cody Franson (UFA), it may be a good deadline deal. Still has $6M for 1 more year on deal. Too much for that production and risk factors but tempting for Cup push if nothing of too much value goes back.
Getting players under the age of 29 with a combined 1 year left on a contract could make sense. Never happen, but one can always dream.
.
Line combos?
.
Sauer Update??
The will break his own records this year, I hope, though he may lag slight behind Gretzky. If he plays all 43 at his current production, he will score 34.5 goals and 32 assists. And that half-goal may be a difference-maker.
I missed a Jan Erixon, Jesper Fast discussion? Not close. For what they do, Erixon did it way better. Better defensively, better in the corners, stronger skater, stronger player, and a way better PKer.
Jan Erixon would not be swatted off his skates so easily. Very strong on his skates.
.
Interview with Troutface; worst media personality in the media capital
I don’t think anybody was suggesting anything different than what you said, BDL
And, yes, like the Eric Staal trade, C3. It was taking a shot. The coach misused him, and he wasn’t good as a third-line winger, but, yes, moves like that one.
As Clemenza said about Carlo in The Godfather so would a fan say about Skapski. The Buffalo Killer is having a horrible year and was demoted to the ECHL.
FYI – Puempel out indefinitely with concussion syndrome.
We keep getting injuries among the forwards the team is going to have no one left to recall but Tanner Glass. Amazingly, he is the January poster boy for the Rangers 2017 calendar. You mean they couldn’t find anyone else??!!?!
Say what you like about Fast–he’s no Erixon to be sure–but on the PK he’s the leading TOI Ranger in his first three full seasons. First with Glass, then with Moore (not a good combo), now with Grabner, he gets it done.
Thirst!!

Great to see those lists, Carp. Still hard to believe. You did leave out the goals, though, fun to be reminded what a stud Hull was. And Lemieux, I agree, was never quite as good, but a pretty firm second place if you ask me.
Gretzky 92 1981‑82 (80)
Gretzky 87 1983‑84 (74)
Br. Hull 86 1990‑91 (78)
Lemieux 85 1988‑89 (76)
Selänne 76 1992‑93 (84)
Esposito 76 1970‑71 (78)
Mogilny 76 1992‑93 (77)
Gretzky 73 1984‑85 (80)
Br. Hull 72 1989‑90 (80)
Gretzky 71 1982‑83 (80)
Kurri 71 1984‑85 (73)
Nicholls 70 1988‑89 (79)
Lemieux 70 1987‑88 (77)
Br. Hull 70 1991‑92 (73)
