Kunin was bad. So many plays died on his stick. And his play before the second Canadian goal was just atrocious. I also noticed that Fitzgerald was struggling. Dubois had a lousy tournament but came close to being the hero.
On the positive side, Chabot was amazing and Greenway was in on every play. McAvoy was something special, too.
But holy jeez, what a game to watch. It wasn’t well played; the mistakes are what made it entertaining.

Maybe I’m missing something on Landeskog but he’s a 20 goal/50 point guy and he’s making 4.5 mill a year. I don’t think that deal makes us better if you’re sending Kreider or Hayes the other way.

Wick, I for one don’t think that you’re deeming anyone a bad player by saying you’d trade them. At the same time I’m not trying to overvalue anyone that I say I wouldn’t trade right now.
It’s always about ‘does this make the team better?’ and I just don’t see it in Landeskog if Kreider goes the other way. And especially when it comes to Hayes, who may not be as talented but at 2.4 million is netting us 50-60 this year, it’s hard to beat that for value. At least to me. Again though, If we’re talking Duchene it’s a different story. With him though it’s about the 6 million dollar salary. But you upgrade skill level, production and certainly faceoff ability (big time upgrade). He and Zibanejad would be a tremendous 1-2 punch at center. That’s assuming a deal for Step really does get made elsewhere. That’s a lot of maneuvering in today’s NHL.

Please refer to one of my first posts when this topic came up…I listed 4 players I would not trade in a deal for landeskog…miller, Kreider, zpack, mcdonut…and one player (this years Hayes) that would take a lot of prying (A lot) before I would include him in the deal. Those players I listed are just too good of a VALUE at this point to deal (even though I think none of the forwards are superior to landeskog at this point in their careers).

I think they would recover if he were traded later on in his career. But in the salary cap world, having him basically under their absolute control for the next decade is impossible to trade away.
Here’s an interesting question: What do you pay him on his next contract? This is the kind of player some team would throw a max contract at as an RFA. At the same time, he doesn’t even have arb rights yet. And handing out long term, high value second contracts hasn’t worked out with other pieces of Edmonton’s core.
LikeLike
Interesting note on Buchnevich is that he was assigned to Hartford, not sent on a conditioning stint. I believe this helps the cap but hits Buchnevich in the wallet.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Buchnevich has been sent to Hartford. It makes sense even if he is not ready to play. With the Rangers on their “bye” he can’t participate in any official practices. By going to Hartford he can get in all the practice time he needs and get a couple of conditioning games in as well.
BTW, he was assigned to Hartford and is not on a conditioning stint so he can stay down longer than two weeks if it is needed. AV said Buch is playing for the Wolf Pack tonight and will proceed from there. Double-Bubble also said Nash is getting closer to playing, but he is out tomorrow thus depriving CBJ fans a chance to boo him.

There is no written-in-stone agreement regarding Buchnevich and the AHL. They have simply agreed that if he becomes an AHL type, like Jensen or Hrivik, then he would have the option to go back to Russia. Clearly they don’t see him in those terms. And I’m pretty sure he agreed to this conditioning assignment. There’s zero danger that this means he might opt back to Russia. Zero.
