  1. SN – Burns is not pretty. Thornton less show.

Hank needs to go down to Hartford on a hair conditioning assignment. The extra sheen will shine – problem solved.

  2. The Miracle Met with a nice pass on the goal
    .
Nash needs to pass to his line mates, always looking to shoot – Butch is open, finds the space

  3. Grab may have passed early (I don’t think he did) but he committed the goalie fully and Hayes had all day to make the open-net, tap-in pass. Brain fart. It happens.

  4. Miller has an insane shooting % almost 18%. He really should shoot more. Queue the “will jt get 25 goals this season” msg break question

  5. Just catching up with you guys on my DVR… we were playing good and up 3-2 in Montreal after two, too… lets gone for a different outcome in Toronto.

    Oh

    The five hole will close
    Tomorrow
    So ya gotta hang on
    ‘Til tomorrow

  7. Phew! That was a lot tougher than the final score. Has to be important for Hank to get the “soft goal” monkey off his back. He played well and made those “timely” saves AV loves. And Grabs!!! Wahoo.

  8. I think McDonagh and all the minutes he plays well would be a good choice for the McDonald award

on the voting for each game, if no show effort, Jensen is a good vote

  9. 2 Sam mistakes

called it as puck hitting post on a Toronto goal

The Grabner shorty he called it as pass going to miller and corrected as Grabner shot it

  10. The Miracle Met was on for 3 of the NYR goals and the one against in which he was the guilty party on the turnover but 89 and 93 didn’t help matters on that break out to say nothing of the hook against him but yeah, he should have sat, in fact, they should drop him off in Hartford on the way back he really stinks.
I mean he dropped to 7th in points/60 behind #6 Kris LeTang, but still ahead of #149 Dan Girardi.

  11. I forgot all the things that Zibanejad can do. That is a big loss for Ottawa and for Iran

If we stay healthy, our best defense will be our great offense. Schedule for the rest of Jan and all of Feb is a biotch. Aren’t there any easy games anymore in our own time zone? Or are we now the mark on other teams’ schedules? If so, they should be careful what they wish for in the second half

  12. Good morning, boneheads!
Pretty good win last night. They were sharp, moved their feet, passed well. Excellent puck support by their forwards, making breakouts easy. Toronto has some world class players, they will be good. Eventually
I was watching Hank. Better game, a confidence builder. Still ways to go, he was fighting it at times.
Could we have a 30 goal scorer at $1.65M this year? Moves like that, even it’s pure luck, make a GM look like genius.
Before Buchnevich went down with injury I was very pleased with his play. My feeling was he was exactly as advertised. After he came back, I think he is much more than that. 3rd round, 75th pick. Really? I don’t have time to check, but I wonder how many 2nd rounders from that draft are playing in the NHL. For the record, he was NY’s 2nd pick, they took Tambellini 10 spots higher.

  13. Not an E3 review day, otherwise it would have been up for several hours already.
Maybe RR2 founder (& staff writers) can move to west coast so we get our review nice & early.
Come on Doodie, it’s a small sacrifice!

  14. That’s more like it! Didn’t think Hank was great, but two goals against is good enough on most nights.

Grabner – so, let’s say he scores …… 35 goals this season…. just to throw a figure out there. Do you leave him unprotected thinking that it’s an aberration or protect him in the dispersal draft? He’s done it before, but it’s not the normal production for him.

AV must have stressed not leaving the front of the goal unguarded because there were times when I saw four players in front of the goal even though nobody was covering a man. There were still Toronto players unmarked in the high slot and to the side of the crease. For this game though, it didn’t hurt them.

You would never know Ziba was injured. He comes back from a broken leg and looks to be in mid-season form. I like the Gimp line with Buch and Nash.

  15. @Alex: On Sam, have to cut him some slack, its not an easy job and we have no idea the visibility from his box. Trying to pick up 10 or 40 in a split second with that annoying Salmon guy pestering you….

On The Austrian Express (aka BeepBeep!) – have to think a lot of his renissance comes from playing in the AV system. Put him on a Torts team and he might be lucky to see 7 mins a night with 5 goals. See it in other sports too where the player either fits the system or stadium really well but bombs elsewhere.

  16. Good Morning! Good game for Hank he did look shaky at times but much better over all. I still believe Kreider needs to be united with Zika & Buch! Nash Step and Zucc. If Grabner is Beep Beep than who is Wile E. Coyote?

No doubt that I would make more mistakes than Sam

The way he corrected himself if you were listening only you would think Miller got the pass and passed it to Grabner.

  18. ILB – 13 second round draftees from 2013 have played a game in the NHL. Only Nic Petan (17 pts in 53 games) and Artturi Lehkonen (15 pts in 37 games) have more points than Buch (14 pts in 14 games).

Interestingly enough, 12 third rounders from 2013 have played in the NHL with The Duke leading the way with 60 points in 140 games. also ahead of Buch are Brett Pesce (24 pts in 113 GP, drafted ahead of Pavel) and Mattias Janmark (29 opts in 73 GP, drafted after Pavel) and Sven Andrighetto (26 pts in 71 GP, and drafted after Pavel).

So far we have two Michael Stewarts from the first round: Samuel Morin (#11 to Philly) and Morgam Klimchuk (#28 to Calgary). I referenced Stewart because he is the highest ex-NYR 1st round pick to never have played in the NHL (13th overall – jusy edging Jim Malone who was drafted 14th and was probably the biggest 1st round bust for the Rangers). Huge Speciman did play two games in the NHL – albeit with Florida.

Kind of funny how the Panthers seem to take our first round bombs. Although, you gotta admit the Rangers could use McIlrath’s body now given they haven’t called up a spare d-man from Hartford with Staal’s injury. I know there are cap concerns, but I think it is more of an indictment to the blueliners in Hartford (outside of Ryan Graves who might not be ready – plus if he isn’t going to break the top six why recall him) than a cap concern.

  19. Watch it again this am. The coverage in front was better minus the Klein misplay, but, still way too many odd man rushes. If good(but not great Hank) didn’t show up it might have been 7 to 3 again. Also everyone can’t fly the zone on the PP. They leave the one guy back with the options of a dangerous long pass or trying to beat the forechecker one on one. Someone has to come back and give him another option. Leafs got one shortie and Hank made the save on other chances.

If they protect Grabner they expose Zucc? I think you have to assume whichever forward they expose will get picked. Tough call. Even with less scoring Grabner’s speed is a game changer.

  21. The feeling on Shattenkirk is that he wants to play for the Rangers. Why give up anything of substance for a guy you can get for just money in July.
My feeling on the Rangers D, is they need a defensive defenseman. Fir this team, Shattenkirk is not a fit.

  23. Watched the turnover by Gerund and the SHG again. Gonna cut him a little slack because the breakout was butchered, with two Rangers (Zibanejad and Buchnevich, I believe) within a few feet of each other and of Gerund. No way it’s designed that way. Also think about it, those three guys haven’t played a lot of PP minutes together lately.
