  1. This game is on NBC so I am going to a friends house and try to get him to be a fan of the Rangers.

i hope its a good game so I don’t have to make a bunch of excuses.

    offense erupts today 6-2.

  3. Did doc say the trade deadline was 28 FEB? Wtf…pretty sure it’s 01 MAR. I’ve never seen such a confusing trade deadline date before.

  4. EV – you have not even one good thing to say about the Rangers after a 0-0 Road period in an early game? They didn’t even do one good thing that period? Really? Not one?

  5. Wick, funny thing is they were treating it up on faceoffs at the beginning of the season. Right up until the Zika injury. Hopefully his return will ultimately bring those stats back towards our side.

Yep and everyone thought guys like step, pirri, Hayes would continue to do so…lol, you’d think some of the big brain stats guys here would have seen through to facade.

Or they could have just listened to some one like me, but I clearly know nothing because I like hitting (channeling my inner sgt Schultz carp;))

  7. Zucc forces more bad passes than anyone on the team – when he makes a good pass it’s like a blind squirrel finding a nut, not vanek’s nut either

  9. Zucc is the man again eh? Maybe it’s just a little easier to look good in the offensive zone when you’re playing 3 on 3 hockey…:) Anyhow, happy for Hank to get a little boost of confidence but that game was awful and now Hayes is hurt just as we get Zibanejad back. It’s like a sick joke.

  10. Headzo – very very sorry to hear this my brutha from anutha mutha. Death is cruelest of all ironies. Hopefully, he’s no longer in pain, at peace, and watching you from above.

  13. I’ll take Zucc missing on the majority of his passes to enjoy the rewards on when they connect. He sees things that most don’t, because they’re not there yet. I can deal with the risk when your talking about a player who’s vision is a step ahead.

  14. I like Zook, he’s one of a few pure heart & soul players on the team. But, I must admit when I saw him go down on the overextended OT shift, I knew it was gonna turn out bad. I’m just glad the bad was for the wings. And that little shot fake to the blocker side really got the goalie to bite, making it easier for Wick & E3 to see dead people.
I really believe Buchnevik is going to be ACES in this league, for the Rangers.
Good game for Hank. Hope purple is not hurt too badly.

  15. Zucc’s vision is a step ahead? Interesting. So when he tries one of his cross ice passes through 3 opponents and it’s invariably intercepted, it’s because his vision is a step ahead? That’s some kellyanne Conway like spin…..

  16. Norm,
Just pointing out that once again Zucc overstayed his shift, and if it was not for Skjei making the play he made, it would have been a much different result. Oh and Zuccmhas not scored a goal with a goalie in net since November.

  17. Admire Zucc’s creativity, the facts (sorry, those pesky stats) have him as 3rd on the team in Primary Assists but first in Secondary assists. So his vision is so magical, he can see the play 2 passes ahead.
    .
He also has the lowest Shooting % of any forward not named Oscar while taking the most shots of any Ranger so probably does make sense to pass.
    .
1 goal in the last 30 games; 1-3-4 on the PP since Nov 1 while getting first unit TOI and not missing a game.

  18. I don’t like it when Zucc overstays his shifts either, BDL, something he could improve. And I didn’t see the play you’re talking about–was Lundqvist out of it and Skjei saved a certain goal? And what about: if Zucc hadn’t made the winning play, it could have been a much different result. That play counts, too.
This notion that he’s simultaneously the leading scorer and a liability stretches credulity. So does the notion that the Rangers need him to score more goals, unless acing out the Pens for GF championship is some sort of priority.

  19. I don’t think Zucc is a liability. He is a heck of a player. But he often overstays his shifts. It is a very selfish trait. The play in question, Zucc overstayed his shift and was caught up ice. Skjei broke up the play in front of the net. Miller, who scored the goal, then made the play to get the puck out of the zone to Zucc who was hanging.

  20. Thanks for the description, BDL–the replay only shows the tail end. I thought it was some previous play in the game people were talking about. To be sure I’d want to know whether the coaching staff gives Zucc a green light to overstay his shifts for some reason, but on the face of it there is an irony of that sort of selfishness combined with his scoring UN-selfishness. Sure worked out well this one time.

  22. zucc is actually 3rd in Primary Assists/60 min TOI
    Step, Butch, Zucc, Nash, Miller
    .
Total Pts./60 he is 9th on the team, last among top 9 forwards

I love it that some women in america, decided to wake up in their lavish homes, ate whatever delicious meal, got dressed in their brand name clothing, got behind the wheel of their new vehicles, and drove to participate in a rally because they feel oppressed and mistreated (rolls eyes).

  24. Some boneheads – “Zucc leads the team in points. He’s the best”

Other boneheads – “zucc gets considerably more ice time than everyone else”

Some boneheads – “he gets more ice time because he’s better and scores more points”

  25. and yet other boneheads : Zooks the worst passer of all our forwards. Trade him, so opie gets more ice time.
Okay, that last half may be a stretch, but you get the drift. lol

  26. 9th in pts./minute! Clearly the 9th best forward, BOOM! Gotta get this guy out of town. (Though once Stats, etc. adds today’s assist, he’ll probably move into 7th past Stepan and Nash, two other bums that need to go.)

I have a different take. Zucc stays back – we call it cherry picking here – looking for that breakout pass. It’s done by design, not selfishness or lazyness.

  29. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family Headzo.

It is almost 10am – Does anyone know if Zucc has gotten off the ice yet?!? 🙂

Yesterday’s game had all the earmarks of an AHL Sunday afternoon game wrapping up a 3-in-3 (three games in three days, or, three games in less than 48 hours). I guess both teams forgot that they are now in the same Conference.

I guess The (Puempel)Nickle plays tonight. I hope AV doesn’t move up Pirri to center Grabner and Miller. I hope Vesey gets bumped up with J.T. moving to center.

  30. During yesterday’s little debate about The Zook, SN arguing the case against, me for, there was some back-and-forth about primary assists, assists/min., etc. It reminded me of Wicky’s good point about his tendency to disappear when the going got tight, particularly in the playoffs; and Carp’s point last season about his being the the Rangers’ best PP forward/passer, I think? Thanks to the website SN steered me to, it’s interesting to discover that Zucc, 5-on-5, is the clear leader in primaries, and Zook’n’Book in primaries/min. When you go to PP-only stats, though, his numbers plummet. It’s a small sample size, to be sure, and perhaps he’ll return to last season’s very good PP numbers by May, but it bears watching. Perhaps AV switches him and Buch on the #1/2 PP units, even if that breaks up lines a bit.
