  1. My re-post from early this morning! Good morning Boneheads TGIF and no Ranger game to whine over! 5th in Metro still a possibility! My question which team takes the ice after the break? Oct. Champs or Jan. Chumps? I love this team just not sure they have the fire to make a statement under this coach! Will The enigma force us to change his name down the stretch? And where is The Miami Pimp?

  2. I am actually optimistic about their play in the second half now that they are mostly healthy, not withstanding the loss of K. Bongs. I do think they should bring Graves up for a spell and rotate him in for four or five games to see what they have. But with HL looking a bit more focused and the overall team paying a bit more attention to D, they should definitely be on the good side of win/loss column. It won’t be without frustration but they wouldn’t be the NYR if they were not.

Prognosticating about playoffs in Jan. is perilous – momentum and injuries can turn the tables very quickly on the favorities.

  3. Carp (and everyone else!), do you think Lundqvist makes the cut tonight for 100 greatest players? I didn’t think he had a chance (the “no Cups” argument), but he made Lozo, McIndoe, and Wyshynski’s book. Thoughts?

  4. For the Rangers, you figure Leetch, and Messier are locks, then possibly Howell, Bathgate, Gilbert, and Park.

As for the players who were here briefly, Gretzky and Jagr are locks. Lindros, Dionne, Bure, Gartner, shanahan, lafontaine possible.

Also, since this is in LA, I wouldn’t count out Robitaille.

  5. Thanks Carp. I kind of thought the same thing. Lozo et al included him saying:
“Since making his debut in 2005-06, Lundqvist leads all goaltenders in wins, shutouts, save percentage, grooming and is second in goals-against average. Among goaltenders to make at least 60 postseason starts over that time, Lundqvist is first in save percentage, wins, shutouts, grooming again and is third in goals-against average, trailing leader Jonathan Quick by 0.02.”
He’s also only goalie in history to get 20 wins in each of his first 12 years (would have been 30 but for the lockout). I hope he makes it, but not holding my breath.

  6. Noblewines pretty sure it is the main entrance on 7th Ave. I recall they have ramps on both sides of steps and I think there are wheelchair lifts etc once you are in. Good luck!

  7. Columbus Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella returned home to Columbus to care for a sick family dog.

The dog that is ailing is his son Nick’s 10-year-old pit bull, Emma. Nick is a U.S. Army Ranger stationed abroad.

“I needed to see this through,” Tortorella said.

Tortorella is a noted animal activist, starting the John and Christine Tortorella Family Foundation which raises money to protect children, animals and the environment from harm.

    The hockey news.

  8. OK, I’ll bite. WHO THE HELL IS ‘LQ’? oops…never mind…fingered it out. Nickname phobia. Reminds me of my fear of being named Pope: Namapapaphobia.

  9. Can’t argue with too many choices for greatest 100. I’m not sure that too many current players should have been included. Jagr for sure, maybe Ovechkin. The others have too much career left to be included yet. If their careers ended today, would they still be on the top 100 list?

  10. Olga the NHL has a weird obsession with the Black Hawks. Naming 3 of the only 6 active players to make the list from that one team is over the top. No wonder Malkin suddenly developed a “lower body injury” and had to miss the all star weekend…

  11. Duncan Keith (all due respect) is the only example I need to support my opinion that these modern day NHL “top anything” shows are BS and a gimmick. thus I have no interest in it.

  12. No one is really getting excited about this silly list are they? It was just an attempt by NBC and the NHL to get someone to watch NBCSN last night. Award shows are all dumb. This was worst than most of them.

  13. I’d actually argue Keith deserves it more than Toews.

CCCP, while those players were fantastic, a lot of their best hockey was outside of the NHL. In the NHL, they were important parts of the Wings, but not top 100.

Malkin, on the other hand, is a travesty.
