Great news!

After we finish up BDL’s excellent series, we are in for even more of a treat.

George Grimm will regale us with some of his excellent tales. He has a book coming out in September about the Emile Francis era and if I can figure it out, we will do a live chat to coincide with the book’s release.

Incidentally, you can preorder his book here: https://www.amazon.ca/Did-Everything-But-Win-1964-1976/dp/1510722300/ref=zg_bsnr_959538_5/155-7990362-7833944?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=CM6KHCXB3PWZZCG9QNBC

  1. I wonder if trade deadline day is going to be a flop this year overall due to the expansion draft and more than likely stagnant cap?

  2. Not to bore anyone to distraction, but our FED will undoubtedly raise interest rates this year, further strengthening the Dollar. Since Canadian teams pay players in US dollars, but collect Loonies from fans, what does this mean to ticket prices in Canada and/or Owners’ losses?

  3. Shattenkirk is in reality a 3rd pair dman and pp specialist. $ 7 million is a lot to pay for that. For many years to come. He would soon become a fan whipping boy.

  4. Good memory on Nilsson, Carp. He started with 11, but because of injuries, Nilsson felt 11 was bad luck and switched to 19.

  5. Also Dean Talafous gets forgotten about on the 79 team. Not only was Nilsson injured for the playoffs, but Talafous was as well. He was having a very good season.

  6. I think shattenkirk is a 2nd pair guy in most teams, I don’t think he is worth what he is going to make in his next contract. He is better than everyone who has played the right side on the rangers this season. Still nor worth his next contract (similar to a 2nd pair lefty we have now). I’d focus more on stone from the yotes or a few other options

  7. Will they let Starve keep 19 for as long as he’s a Ranger? Mariano (different class, obviously) kept his 42 after it was retired for Robinson, not sure anyone else did.

  8. Re: retiring of #19, always liked Carp’s idea of the Ring of Honor for guys like Park, Tkaczuk, Hadfield from that era.

  9. Not sure what the argument is for getting Shattenkirk in other than he’s a local boy, would be popular for a few games. The Rangers’ biggest problem is hardly goal production, and if their mid-level power play is something they want to improve, I’d rather see Hayes given a shot at QBing the second unit than Shatty (or McD).

  10. Never ordered anything from Canadian Amazon. I assume George’s book will eventually be available on the regular Amazon site. With a September release it will probably find its way on my Christmas list.

  11. I pride my self in exactly this sort of useless knowledge.

Also, I used to wear 19 and currently wear 91 on my beer league team.

  12. When I first started following the Rangers waay back in 1971 my two favorite players were Eddie Giacomin and Jean Ratelle. It is no coincidence that they also represent the last two Rangers jerseys I ever purchased. It is a long tiome comoing and most richly deserved that Ratelle’s number is retired.

As a Cowboys fan, I have long been a proponent of an MSG Ring of Honor especially so the team can recognize some of the old-time Rangers who richly deserve honoring – Frank Boucher, The Cook Brothers, Ching Johnson, Davey Kerr and so many other Rangers who sadly get forgotten when people talk about Ranger sand NHL greats.

  13. Since we’re discussing jerseys and numbers (I know I’m a little late to the conversation), if I went to Cosby’s and asked them to put Ratelle’s name and number on an authentic jersey, would they do it? I thought I remember hearing one time that, for some reason, they could only do an authentic jersey with current players. I understand that it wouldn’t be truly “authentic” because the jerseys are much different, but I thought it might be kind of cool to do a retro jersey.

  14. Coos I’m taking large orders for Walters as I’m headed to Florida in March to see family that retired and moved from New Ro several years ago. I said “you know they won’t be as good reheated” they replied “half assed Walters is still better than no Walters “….

  15. Blogmama. Get the NHL app and they’ll give you updates when there’s a score, at the end of each period and final score.
