  1. Teams that win the cup have at least 1 or 2 lottery picked players on the team or at least top 5. Rangers have never had a lottery pick player or top 5. That’s why the rangers will not a win a cup. They finally won a cup in 94 because they traded for half of the Oilers team from the 80’s that still had something left in the tank or else they still wouldn’t have won a cup since 1940.

  2. I don’t think Shatternik is anything special and if he wants 7 years and 6+ million a year is a another cap disaster and won’t make the rangers any closer to winning a cup so, no.

  3. Please name the two players you would be most upset if traded and the two you are happiest to see go. (Danny G and Shampooboy not eligible as NMC. Nash has limited so can include)

  5. “not going to get much for pirri and/or klein if anything at all” Ein you might get back something servicable but its not really so much about a super duper trade as much a question of who you guys care is still here (or not).

  6. James G remember I don’t live in Clearwater so I’m not an expert on that area. But I have been told Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill has great Grouper sandwiches. also Blackwaters on Sand key or Islandway Grill all have views of the Gulf. If you are looking for something in St Pete let me know

  7. As much as some stated otherwise, still believe Slats’ shriveled finger prints were all over the E Staal signing last deadline. Given Gorton’s summer and AV’s extension, may not be a win now shiny new toy deal.
If more stupidity reigns this deadline, I blamePhil Jackson.

  8. Oh I know, Eli. I was referring more to the St Pete area. I’ve heard frenchys is good. Wanted to take them out one night. We’ve been to a really good Greek place and an awesome little oyster house in St Pete. Looking to venture back out there again.

  9. Hearing capitals kicking tires on shattenkirk. Go all in. Rangers need wait to July 1 unless price is like Lindberg Klein and 2nd rounder.

  10. No idea on Gropp, ilb. He is 20, playing Major Junior.
Just watched Freidman on NHL network, he said he believes the Rangers offer was a 2nd and a prospect to the Blues. Blues looking to get other teams involved. The Caps to name one.

  11. Does Stephan have a NMC or NTC? If not, What do you think a trade with him would bring in return? Any good young centers we could target like Duschene or someone else? Maybe Stephan and 1st rounder can get Duschene. We need a first line center who can score and contribute on the PP. Stephan is more of a third line center. Interested to hear others thoughts on this

  12. The ask on Duchene is an established, young center (Stepan), a young Dman (Skjei), and a goalie prospect. The Rangers have more than one of those.

  13. Can’t start a bidding war when teams know they’ll be giving up important pieces for a guy who will most likely sign in NY in July anyhow. But my gut tells me he’s a Ranger or a Capital by 3pm Wednesday. Just not for a first round pick or a significant member of this current squad

  14. Blues will try to rope the Rangers into a bunch of conditionals. They’ll take a 2nd, but if he resigns it turns into a 1st. Maybe an additional conditional 4th that becomes a 3rd if we win 1 round, 2nd if we win another round.

Can’t see Zucc to LA. I can see Klein going that way, with Paul Ladue and a pick coming back to us. Then an additional trade of a pick or mid-level prospect for Brendan Smith from Detroit.

The Parkshore Grill, 400 Beach, and Bellabrava for Italian and sea food on beach drive are all good. And just in case you are looking for a sports bar try Fergs on Central ave. I work in downtown St Pete 3 days a week Wed. Thurs. and Friday driving a Pedicab (electric taxi) from 11 am to 6 pm it’s my retirement gig!

  16. I fail to see how trading a righty D in any scenario (including getting a righty back) improved the right side.

The no way and go away scenarios…
    no way-miller, mcdonut, Kreider
Go away-pirri, zucc, step, skjeL, fast
—-Note—step and skjeL only if the return is significant and under contract.

  17. Sanford, R1 this year, and condish R2 next year for Shattenkirk. I’d say Sanford would translate to Adam Tambellini if the Rangers made that deal.
Guessing the conditional R2 becomes an R1 if Shatty resigns.
    Too rich for our blood.

Bring on Cody Franson for peanuts, please. Say no to Dennis Wideman – shell of his former self and he’ll never get a decent call from a ref again.

  18. I’m glad, let the craps mortgage there future, sather has done enough of that and got the rangers nowhere the past two years. If Shattenkirk really wants to come to the rangers they can sign him in the off season.

  19. Rangers not trading for Shattenkirk is a good thing. Why give up assets when you can get him in the summer and keep the young talent that your organization is short on. IMO they will have hard time advancing to conference finals with or without Shattenkirk, so you might as well save the assets you have.

  20. Maybe, Babcock and Brian Boyle can find a way to at least wear down the Caps. There’s going to be a lot of pressure, especially in the 1st round.

  21. and so much for the Rangers being the only team on Shatt’s list lol

goes to show that we do not know sh!t and exactly why I almost never participate in the “this guy coming for this much” games…

  22. cccp, it wasn’t a sign and trade. Originally the blues asking price was higher on the contingent that Shattenkirk would sign a long term deal with the team he was traded to but every time the blues had a deal in place Shattenkirk turn it down because he wants to go to free agency and most likely sign with the rangers.

  23. This offseason, Caps have Kuznetsov, Burakovsky and Orlov coming up on RFA, and Oshie, Alzner, and Williams going UFA. Carlson and Eller UFA next year. Orpik at $5M per year for 2 more seasons past this one, and Matt Niskanen for almost $6M through 2021.
    Yeah, that’s some rough shape.

  24. Since the Blues are short a righty dman now, maybe we can send them Girardi for the conditional 2nd rounder from Washington that apparently doesn’t exist.

  25. If they needed that 50%, what does that mean for the Caps ? Are they that jammed up against the Cap, this late in the year ? This math stuff messes me up big time lol.

  26. Truly hope Lou-Lam and Babock can hatch a scheme to beat the Caps. Like I said, there will be a lot of pressure in that 1st round. It could happen.

  27. the only team i’d root against vs the caps is islanders (re first round possibles)

    unless

if we get knocked out first round then i’d want them over pittsburgh or columbus so i’d want them to win first round.

bottom line i don’t hate the caps but if it helps us i’d want them out

In the east, 2 or 3 will be KO’d in Round 1, 6 or 7 is guaranteed to advance, 1 and 2 can meet no later than Round 2 & 4 better draw than 3.

  30. The Blues did with Shatennkirk, what the Rangers should have done with Yandle. And if the Rangers had traded Yandle at last years deadline, chances are they would have had the extra assets to trade for Shatennkirk this year.

  31. Carp – You’re right. Much of the Atlantic standings still in flux so way too soon to predict who the Caps draw in 1st round.

It’s hard for me to believe Gorton does nothing. I’m still hoping for Smith and Sharp (if the prices are right).

  32. Not a bad price to pay for Shatty, but still a bit pricey if he’s truly committed to playing for the Rangers next year – at least we can move on now and Gorton can get us set up for the post-season, off-season and expansion draft

  33. According to TSN the Duke is on the block for Arizona – how’s that Yandle trade worked out for them?

If they lose Duke, then they’ve got (No)Datsyuk and Jacob Chychrun and we got Tarmo Reunanen and no Stanley Pie – i’d say both sides lost that trade!!

    Like

  34. Chychrun no slouch. And if they trade the Duke, it would be selling low but they wouldn’t do it unless they got a semi-decent return. That trade worked out just fine for the ‘Yotes.

  35. Good morning, boneheads!
Washington is going all in. Not only they acquired the biggest name on the market, they also took him away from their biggest rivals. They are in cap hell this off season, and decided to give up a lot for a rental. Good for them. Also, kudos to Gorton for not caving in and giving up too much. I don’t think it was the 1st rounder, it sounds like he didn’t want to give up one of their young forwards. Also, it’s possible that conditional pick(s) was hanging on Shattenkirk re-signing in NY, which everyone knows is highly probable.
I expect a couple of depth moves today/tomorrow, and nothing major.

  36. @BDL was on board that train to sell Yandle last year too. But Corsi. Or something like that. As to Shatennkirk, I honestly do not want them to sign him at all. The coin he will want will be an albatross to whomever pays it – the guy is good, but not exceptional. Supply/demand may give him that great pay day, kudos to him but that doesn’t mean the money isn’t better spent elsewhere on the team.
