  1. NOT a MUST win game for sure, but should try to avoid an embarrassment of any kind…Show us some dignity, for rotten teeth of Trout sake…

  2. According to Sam the Rangers are “taking exception” to all of the cheap shots. Maybe after the game the team can write a letter to the Caps letting them know how upset they are with them and have Rammer take it over to the visitors locker room

  3. We’re still not at the NFL-level of review, but there’s still time for the NHL to get this right: Take off-sides out of the reviewable items in a coach’s challenge. It’s embarrassing. I’m surprised the Officials union isn’t all over it – it makes the linesmen look bad on a nightly basis.

  4. I think the ONLY challenge could be if there is a suspicion on goalie interference, which is legit “causus quo”, not what happened (or not) 20 minutes ago on the blue line under microscope; and has absolutely no relation and relevance to the scored goal. Apotheosis of idiotic…

  6. Trying to imagine who in Toronto is sitting around giggling in satisfaction at the improvement to the game their clerk-y little delayed offside has brought. Every time a goal is scored now, the scoreboard should light up with an all-caps NERD ALERT.

  7. Thanks to Gary Butthead for the offsides rule —

Not only does reversing a huge goal kill momentum, but the 10 minutes of iPad review kills any possibility of regaining composure.

    Bettman is worse than Drumpf

  8. Trautwig said that Kempfer has an unbelievable Stanley cup story to tell! Can’t wait to hear a story that was already told by Micheletti earlier in the game!

  9. And I even shut off Maloney — kissing the Craps’ ass — not that impressed with the Craps. They will choke at some point during the playoffs.

  10. Norm – team was outhit and didn’t have the puck. Down by one goal is a testament to Henk. Been totally outplayed. Eventually you need to decide if you are going to be the bug or the windshield.

  13. I hate the wussiness of this team. The Panthers were like that most of the season too but somehow they all finally got on the same page.
Most of these guys have been playing with each other for a while now. You’d think they’d give a crap about their teammates by now. Smh

  14. Evrock:

It LITTLE to nothing to do with the play.

It’s a bullsht rule. Let’s review the past 30-45 seconds or more of tape to see if there was a skate blade ahead of the puck.

  15. This game is right on point, had caps winning 4-2 on a empty net goal. I rather see the rangers stay right where they are, in the 7th seed. Lets pray they don’t lose to many games in a row or they could be fighting for the 7th and 8th seed.

  16. The Rangers must fight them in the d-zone, in center ice… they shall go on to the end. They shall fight in France, they shall fight on the seas and oceans, they shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, they shall defend their end, whatever the cost may be. They shall fight on the beaches, they shall fight all the way to the penalty box, they shall fight in the fields and in the streets, they shall fight in the hills; they shall never surrender.

Or they could try outscoring them.

  17. Why, evrock, is offside not reviewable regardless of whether there’s a goal scored? You’re offside and you then wear down your opponent for a while, to your advantage–why shouldn’t a coach be able to ask for that time back, to recover? It was offside, black-and-white, and an outrage that play was allowed to continue. Come to think of it, why isn’t the clock set back to when the offside was called, on a wiped-out goal? This rule is as black-and-white as gray underwear.

  18. Love watching this game on NBCSN. So #blessed to be able to listen to Joe Beninati call the Caps players by their first names and get super excited by every Washington dipsy doodle.

  19. Here’s some physical stuff with the Rangers I absolutely object to, which is their forwards consistently pulling up on the rush when they have a step to the outside. They refuse to skate hard around the corner to get a shot, take a hit to make a play, or get hauled down for a penalty.

  20. But of course, that uncounted goal changed the whole further game canvas…deflated Rangers, encouraged Craps and this team know what and how to do rest.

  21. Ev rock:

It’s a ridiculous call. It’s ridiculous to review an offsides on a broken play. Goal was not scored off the rush. Therefore offsides does not have direct bearing on the play.

If we are going to get all offsides calls “right”, why don’t we review all penalties and all missed calls??? Why stop at offsides?

  22. These guys should be, but aren’t, embarrassed to play such dispirited hockey in front of the home crowd. Who will lead us? Huh? We need a trade desperately for a leader with a bit of an attitude.

  23. But they still keep possession of the puck, Akbar. They wouldn’t have possession one that play unless they won the ensuing faceoff that’s now outside the zone.
I don’t necessarily agree with having that rule available but because it is, it’s a black and white rule.

  24. And to belabor the point:

By reversing a goal call and taking an unacceptable 10 minutes to do it, the team that gave up the goal now gets momentum whereas the team that scored the goal is punished.

    Silly rule, imo.

  25. Evrock –

No doubt it’s “black and white” — but it’s a needless rule, especially when the review is initiated by coaches rather than officials.

  26. What a display on the PP by Pirri. Hope it’s awhile before he is dressed again. The PP coach should be looking for employment. Pretty pathetic display by entire team tonight except Hank

  28. Let’s see, Step x 2, Kreider , Staal, Gerund, Fast, Nash, Hank have all been beaten up in some form or another tonight. Who am I missing ? Oh yeah they got to Mika before puck drop.
I sure do miss the days of some team toughness & physical accountability.

  29. Who will be first to do the math: the Rangers lost this game to the Caps, therefore they can not beat them in the playoffs. Or has it already happened?

  30. I don’t know why anybody is surprised with this outcome. Caps are a top contending team, rangers are not a top contending team and will most likely not make it past the 1st round. I don’t care who they play.

  31. I do agree the refs let the caps get a way with a lot of penalties and dirty play. I haven’t complained this year about the refs like in years past but tonight was a blast in the past with these refs tonight. To say the refs had a one way eye on the game tonight is a understatement.

  32. If I was Lundqvist I’d go on strike until the team decides to put in as much effort as he does. 20 minutes of hockey and 40 minutes of crap doesn’t make it against the Caps or anyone else. What does it take to get a complete effort? Not talking about a win- just a “work like a dog” effort for an entire game.

  33. The window has closed on Lundqvist he will never win a cup. Time to regroup for next year trade Nash, Stepan, and Zucc this team is going home after round 1. Doesn’t matter what they do tomorrow.

  34. I’m sure they will win a few more games before the seasons end but really do you think it will make any difference? Rangers display the on the ice the personality of their coach! “I thought we had a few good looks” Really!

  35. Just catching up…lol, you guys kill me.

I couldn’t figure out what that high pitched whine was during any sort of physicality on the ice, then I realized it was Norm.

Carp kills me with the run out of the building comment…usually when he posts it, it means the rangers actually ARE being physically dominated.

Good thing there’s time to make deals tomorrow, might not have enough healthy bodies

How did stepan not get sent to the quiet room after that? Would not be shocked in the least to see him miss time with concussion like symptoms in the future like staal did.

Lastly, hilarious watching 2 non fighters fight…winnick and clendening get an “A” for effort.

  36. As we all know the Stanley Cup is hardest trophy to win in sports. Practically impossible to win the cup with below average special teams. Absolutely need to be able to make teams pay for their penalties with the PP and you must be able to bail out your team with the PK. For years now, Rangers PP has been awful, so teams take liberties against them with no fear of paying for it. PK is better than PP, but has been very inconsistent. Unless PP is fixed very soon, there is no reason to believe they could be legitimate contenders.

  37. The meltdown after the disallowed goal was really disturbing. Honestly rather give Steps A to The Machine for all the good he seems to do as a team leader. Just bring Avery back and give him the C and you’ll see some fire under their asses. There is just so little edge to their game.

  38. Interesting how Connolly has the audacity to run Henk with no fear of reprisal. Not exactly a bruiser. Team is softer than a mashed potato sandwich. They only one to jump on him was a player in his 1st game. McD or Staal would have gave him a mean stare down.
    Alas poor Henk.

  39. Team is friggin soft. It’s embarrassing and doesn’t represent NY. Again like Eric says: this team will never win the cup evah again. The Jets will win a SB before the Rangers win a cup. Yet I’ll keep rooting for them because I don’t know any other way. They’re like a bad girlfriend.

  40. Stop. Just stop. You know Goddam well that all of you will be fawning all over them just as soon as they win two in a row. You can’t bear to trade any one of them, as they are too valuable, yet you run them all into the gutter as soon as they lose a game. Holy sheet! Make up your friggen minds! Chit or get off the pot! (and a nod to E3 there)

  41. Thats it!! Trade everyone!! Get Sean Avery, Bran Bole and Norris Stralman back!!

On the other hand, still in that prime 4th spot….presumably that got mentioned in the first intermission which is why we looked like we were deliberately stinking it up after that?

  42. Of course we fawn all over them when they win. We want to see them play well. We’re fans! This team is wildly inconsistent, however, and that is where our frustration lies. We’ve got some good players. No, we don’t want to trade them. These guys can do better. It seems like they lack heart. Maybe they’re giving their all, but sometimes it just doesn’t look like it. Tonight, in the first period, they looked like they could be Cup contenders. You can’t tell me they gave the same effort for the rest of the game. Inconsistent, say I !

Injuries? I don’t think so. They dominated the first period, could’ve been 2, or even 3-0. And then they totally disappeared for two periods. A lot of passengers. I wonder if Eric called them during first intermission:”Are you guys nuts? Stay in 4th, dammit!” 🙂

  47. Get Franson if price is not too high. Slots into PP QB and RD1 (in name only)
    McD – Franson
    Staall – Smith
    Shea – Klein/Girardi/Clendening
