  1. Not Rangers related but hockey related. I found this to be very interesting! He’s a survivor!
    ————–
On this date in hockey history, March 7th, 1951, Scotty Bowman was seriously injured playing for the Montreal Junior Canadiens. Bowman was on a breakaway with 30 seconds left in a playoff game against the Shawinigan Falls Cataracts when he was slashed in the head from behind by Shawinigan defenseman Jean Guy Talbot.
Players in the 1950’s did not wear helmets and the blow sliced Bowman’s head open. The crowd at the Montreal Forum was stunned into silence as Bowman lay on the ice next to a piece of his skull.

But young Scotty Bowman had already dodged tragedy. As a youth, Bowman returned from a year long stay in Scotland with his mother on a ship named the Athena. On it’s way back to Scotland, the ship was torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine.

Bowman was taken to the hospital where a metal plate was placed in his skull which was sewn back together. A comeback was unsuccessful and Bowman prepared for life without hockey as a paint salesman.
Scotty was well known to Sam Pollock in his Montreal neighborhood of Notre Dame de Grace for his organizational skills with baseball and hockey teams. Pollock was then the GM of the Montreal Jr. Canadiens and he hired Bowman to coach the juniors and the rest is history

  2. Bowman has earned nine rings as a coach, plus five more as an executive; that surpasses Phil Jackson’s total of 13 (eleven as coach, two as player).

  3. never seen a team like the rangers who can’t hit the broad side of a barn, unbelievable and zuccarella’s passing tonight is past awful.

  4. so far from what I’ve seen kampfer has done a good job, has a edge to his game, likes to hit and has a decent shot from the point.

  5. again, rangers can’t hit the broad side of a barn, maybe the players need contact lenses, I don’t know but all I do know is they miss the net with quality chances.

  7. The ONE night I can’t get the game Glass scores. I mean, he could do it again I suppose, but I feel as if I just missed Haley’s Comet! Waiting for the NHL replay…

  8. Say what you want, but be sure that Gorton and Av are patting themselves on the back for the Glass decision and what they (and I) would consider his enthusiasm injection.

  9. There’s been an outbreak of Glassmania in Rangerland.
The worst hockey player in the history of the NHL (according to -fill in the blank) has scored a goal!!!!
    Glassmania is gripping the nation!

  10. Boom! This is awesome. Tons of tasters fans around me. Potvin sucks chant. The goal doing. Everything.
The Rangers still can’t get an actual shot on net though.

  11. OK, finally saw the replay, and that was hilarious. Gives hope to old men like me–it took Glass so long to get untangled from the net he ended up in perfect position for the rebound. Give the man credit, though–unlike his sniper teammates, he did not aim for the goalies chest! And, yes, amazing skate by Miller.

  14. Finally got a game feed–Panthers look awful this period. Their announcers are lauding the Rangers, talking about how they hardly ever give the puck away, and not just tonight, but generally. Hmm.

Boy I bet you will need a few oxygen tanks to be strapped to you to be able to even give a 10% of effort Jagr gives at *45* 😉

  22. Carp, I’m not sensing a shootout this time. Though I felt that the first time they played them last year and it went to ot after they gave up a big lead.

  26. That bum… who isn’t even better than Cam talbot or Antti Raanta just became 10th all-time goalie in NHL with his 30th win of the season for the 11th time in his 12 year career (which I believe is an NHL record). Terrible goalie who shoulda been traded 3 seasons back 🙂

  27. Well our goalies are certainly looking in fine form! And I’m officially lmao at Tanner being a star of the game …😄

  29. mainly just pulling your stalk…but he looks different to me than in years past…hope for the best no doubt but the question will be answered in the playoffs…how many series can he steal? how’d he look last year

  30. Hondo, i’ve questioned him all season, easily the worst of his career. But if you think you have a shot at doing anything in April, May, June, it hinges on him. Raanta’s been great, probably as good as Talbot was. But you win or lose riding your No. 1 … especially in this case.

Tanner will get the Bway hat tonight, be +3 including a goal. Heads shall explode!

  32. Glassmania well-deserved and good for him, but looking at replays (I only got to see some of the 2nd period) his fly-by on the Vanek goal was… sub-optimum. Here’s hoping Glass is indeed the talisman that gets the Rangers scoring again, but I’m a little dubious.

  34. Worst season of Hank’s career and he still has 30 wins with several more possible. I also read somewhere that he has been named the 1st star of the game more than any other NHL player this year. So while he certainly had his struggles, most notably in December and January, and his numbers aren’t at his career norms, I think it’s fair to say that Hank is still an “elite” goalie. And I agree totally with Carp that if we go anywhere in the playoffs it will be on his back. Hank’s naysayers point to the Pitt series last year as evidence of his “decline.” Maybe so. But I think it is worth remembering that he played great in the first 3 games of that series. He stopped the first 10 shots he saw in Game 1, giving up a goal after getting the stick in his eye (and in hindsight he should have come out right then). Games 2 and 3 he had a 2.0 GAA and a .934 SV%. Games 4 and 5 were a team wide collapse and he was the most visible face of it. So I am not so sure that that series is evidence he is in a decline. Maybe he’s not as good as he was in 2012, but in my book he is still the right guy in net night after night especially in April and beyond.

  35. Glass to the rescue. Someone went to the wizard and brought back some heart to this team. His screen on Hold-on goal was very good hockey play, completely blinded the goalie. He also had a nice break out of the D-zone stick handling up and threading a nice pass up the middle to Oscar who dumped it in. Did not see that in the last 2 seasons.
    .
The reality is this team needs another 2way banger to go with Glass and Oscar.
    .
Nash on pace for 24 goals at least passed the puck more than once tonite and got his 15th assist.

  36. SN, if you’re sold on Glass after these two games, I give you credit for die-hard optimism, and I hope you’re right. I only saw his not-good 5 mins. at TB and 2-3 unimpressive shifts in this one. (Also replays of his somewhat farcical goal, his terrible D on the Vanek goal, and his excellent screen on the Holden shot.) I don’t think it’s sustainable at all, but hope I’m wrong!

  37. Good morning Boneheads. In spite of the shots on goal they played a pretty good game. Take the 2 pts. and head to Carolina.

  38. Didn’t get to watch the game, but I did listen to the last 10 minutes on the radio in my drive home. The Panthers announcers listed Glass as the second star. WTF? That’s great, but I agree with Norm. It’s not sustainable. Just remember all the accolades for Puempel after his hat trick. Yeah, this is like that.

Wish I could be in attendance in Raleigh on Thursday, but I wouldn’t get out of work in time to make there. Will have to rush home to see it on my big screen TV in my living room where I don’t have to fight crowds to go to the bathroom or to get a drink. Oh, and my wife doesn’t charge me to park the car in our driveway either. That’s a plus.

  39. The effort is getting better. Still have to cut down on the chances allowed. Can’t be sure to win the goalie battle every night. The PP is still awful. It’s the execution- not the other team’s PK. They can’t make or receive passes on the PP. At least Papa John has to pay off today. Their PK also really misses Fast and Grabner. Goalie really has to be the best PKer now. Looks like getting Kampher for MCI was making the best of a bad situation. He can play in the league. MCI maybe not.
