I’d say something about the game and Tanner Glass, but I just got my season ticket renewal information and it seriously makes me sick. My ticket price has increased by over 50% since the 2013 half season, and have more than doubled since 10-11. I’m done with these jerks.

Apparently there is a clean up needed in aisle two for all the heads exploding over TG last night. What will Thursday bring?!?
“Dan Girardi’s right ankle, meanwhile, is healing, with the “hole” created when he blocked a shot against the Ducks on Feb. 7 closing through a “vacuum” procedure.” So… they ran his ankle through a food saver machine and bagged it? Guess the parts on on back order and they couldn’t just swap it out for new or refurbished. His pain threshold is incredible.
Ouch on the ticket prices. I used to have 50 yard line under the mez at old Giants stadium. Bailed when they sent 20K+ license bill and huge per game increase. They wonder why the fans they get are just the most into the game. Same way at MSG. There comes a point where maximizing your profit actually hurts your product.

It’s “offside” in as[socc]iation football (soccer), rugby football, and American football, just looked it up. You see “offsides” in reference to the various kinds of offsides. So I’m guessing it’s just slang, which is a relief–I hate being outside a good inside joke.

The official term no matter what the sport is offside. The people that use the term offsides is because they don’t know no good English.

I can confirm that us players of the leather coated spherical pigs stomach refer to it as offside too. Sometimes we defenders just stand still with our arms in the air as the forwards run past as if to signal the linesman that he can put the flag up now. As per the Arsenal team of the 90’s.

In any event, I read about the GMs getting together and, among other things, agreeing that the delayed offside review is *groan* a good thing, but here’s where you know the fix is in–they actually said that it helps remind players to keep their skates on the ice at all times, which promotes player safety. Because you wouldn’t want some guy whose glove has come off, who’s lying down on the blue line, to get his finger sliced off by another guy who (on further review) was offside coming into the zone because his skate was an inch off the ice. So, yeah, pure BS. The question is: who is gaining what, exactly, by keeping this dumbass, game-ruining rule in place? Does it allow dog-food advertisers more time to pitch their wares?

Some interesting developments from prohockeyrumors.com in reference to next season.
The league did agree on one rule change that will be proposed to the competition committee. Under the proposed change, teams would no longer be allowed to call a time out after an icing to give their players a rest. A small change that could have a big impact late in games, it should be expected to go through and be implemented next season. As Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press points out, the AHL already introduced that change this season.
The much talked about change to bye-weeks will be put into place next season according to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN. Instead of having each team take their bye-weeks at different times, there will be two set periods that will rest half the teams at a time. Since there will be 31 teams next season, 15 will rest the first week, and 16 the next. Coming out of their breaks, teams will play their first two games against opponents who shared the same rest period.
The salary cap will increase slightly next season according to Johnston, sitting at $75.5-76MM depending on the inflator negotiations with the NHLPA this summer. While those extra couple of million may help some teams immensely, it doesn’t represent much revenue growth for either side. Frank Seravalli of TSN notes that because this isn’t a final number, most GMs are still assuming a flat cap and will adjust when the league makes an official announcement.
Michael Traikos of Postmedia gives us the quote we were all dreading about NHL participation in the upcoming Olympics. Bill Daly told Traikos “Unless something changes we’re not going. We’ve said that consistently for three months. There’s nothing new about that.” It’s true that they’ve been consistent with it, but not so bluntly as Daly has finally put it. It seems as though there will be a fight between players wanting to go regardless, and their owners needing them during the season.

Have you noticed that coaches are using the caches challenge as a time out, since it takes so much longer for the zebras to look at their tab, than the 30s time out. The florida coach did it on the 4-1 Holden goal, when Glass skated by the goaltender and not even touching him. There was no chance in hell that would have been overturned, even with the nhl referees. I think there should be a penalty for unwarrented challenged.

1enne, I don’t know why the coaches would do that deliberately since they can change the lineup after the goal against. Plus, it takes much longer than 30s after the goal to start the next shift anyway. As for the Holden goal-Florida coach had a valid reason to trigger his challenge since Glass did touch goaltender’s glove and his pad on his way.

This day in hockey history, March 8th 1972, the New York Rangers GAG line of Rod Gilbert, Vic Hadfield, and Jean Ratelle became the first line in NHL history with three 40 goal scorers with Rod Gilbert scoring his 40th goal of the season.
Vintage hockey.

A lot of inane banter on here this morning. Is it August? I guess since they won two in a row we have nothing to talk(complain) about. So without further ado -or is it adieu- I’m going o shut up.

They were called the GAG line because they would tell jokes after every goal.

Seems that McPhee will have his choice of a couple few goodish goalies. Rumor is that he might grab Auntie for someone else and exchange for a high pick.

USA Today’s Kevin Allen had a story about McPhee and Vegas today and I came across an interesting fact. One of the Rangers pro scouts is Doug Risebrough. In addition to being a buddy of Glen Sather, Riseborugh was the GM of the Minnesota Wild when they entered the NHL. I would hope Jeff Gorton picks his brain in terms of Doug’s experiences with the Expansion Draft – especially in terms of making a side deal with Vegas to lessen the expansion loss for the Rangers.
It seems that McPhee and Risebrough spoke for five hours. Hmm, maybe there have been some back channel talks going in already.
Here is the story: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nhl/2017/03/08/nhl-expansion-las-vegas-golden-knights-start-plenty-opportunity/98914896/

The Gilbert reference reminds me of one night in a north end New Rochelle Pub where Rod, Dave Debusschere, some others and some sportswriters convened. They had been scheduled to play in a charity golf event at Wykagyl Country Club, but it had rained most of the day and they ended up at Frumpson’s. Debusschere was seriously toasted and the guy I was with said to the bartender, “I think you should cut Big Dave off.” Bartender replied, “YOU cut him off.”

The real irony of the story is that the charity event was for Alcoholics Anonymous! 🙂

Result of hit was bad, but also thought Engstrom turned away from hit
A worse hit happened when Camper was rear ended and had his back turned for the whole time and the Fla player just steamrolled him from behind.

Interesting game tonight with Nash and Lundvqist out day-to-day. Brandon Halverson who was sent to the ECHL gets the callup thanks to proximity. At least Grabner appears ready to return.

1enne, the Florida goalie was waving to the bench to challenge. I’m sure they thought there was a chance the goal would be overturned. And there is no reason to need a timeout there.
ilb, I think it would be insane to trade draft picks to keep Vegas from taking somebody. Not sure they would want Raanta, and if they did, you can always get a backup goalie. If they want Fast, AV’s fave, so be it, IMO. I mean, you’re going to give up draft picks to keep Fast, and then lose Lindberg?
Gorton should just face it that he will lose a player. Because he will. Move on.

Lessee……..Adam Clendening makes his most impactful move by putting the club’s leading goal scorer on the shelf for a few weeks. Now Steven Kampfer is ahead of him on the depth chart.

… not to mention that Clendening stunk up the joint in the last home game … and also that Kampfer is a larger, more physical D man.

Clendening gave a little sign of hope recently, but then he was back to what he probably is- a journeyman, borderline AHLer.

AHL 202 games

Camper is more of a defensive minded Dman, obviously AC is more of a offensive minded Dman.
Both are 7/8 Ds right now with injuries forcing them in the lineup.
.
Been impressed with AC this year for his ability to make a pass to the tape out of the zone, play with a little snarl while paired with a ADHD Rookie D-man. Good stop gap option.
.
2 of those goals the other night were on Henk and he is also a viable option on PP which really sucks now.
Camper is (-2) in 4 games this season.
.
Are we trusting AV’s decisions with Dman deployment now?

Kampfer is muscular, though. Looks much bigger, stronger than Clendening, IMO. … I agree with Clendening’s ability to make the pass. If only he could defend a little bit better, you’d think he’d be a prototypical AV D-man.

it may have actually helped the team if all the guys who got hurt last week had instead been sidelined with the mumps
figures the Rangers can’t catch the mumps when they really need to

Teams have been trying to intimidate Hank for a while now, and been getting away with it. Glass and Kampfer call- up directly related to that for starters.

Maybe if Oscar, Oscar, Oscar doesn’t go to Vegas and continues to improve, this trade will go down as a pretty good one (though at the time I remember some people screaming bloody murder):
May 8, 2011: Oscar Lindberg traded to NY Rangers by Phoenix for Ethan Werek.

Zibanejad, upon further research seems to be Iranian/Finnish, but since he was born and lives in Sweden, he qualifies. Certainly the most talented of the three but not in the unfailing tenacity department.

Good article on Oscar! My favorite bit, though, was:
“As much as you (might not) want to believe it, Tanner’s fast, too,” Stepan said. Well, I desperately want to believe it. Hope I can catch some of the game tonight and see if he’s sped up since…last game? Did he make the speed breakthrough in practice yesterday?
