AV said it after the game. Too many guys brought their C game. I think that’s on him as well as them. This is deja vu from last year. 500 after the trade deadline. As the other teams ramp up their game as the playoffs approach the Rangers can’t consistently match them.
The worst one was the 4th goal straight from the Kesler face-off. Cogliano goal i think?
He skated through 3 players who were transfixed on the face-off, they made no attempt to stop him and no-one followed him. Criminal!
how many teams have a C game after back to backs against Kings/Ducks?.. Anaheim is one of hottest teams in the league don’t see a need to overreact…specifically since these games are not critical
Holden and Smith were brutal. Klein a bit better but seemed to have trouble keeping up, especially early in the game. When they scored the first two on odd-man rushes, they fell in love with fancy boy hockey again and therefore spent the majority of the last 2 periods in their own zone. Grabner looked more like the Grabner that scores 10 goals per season and his line was the worst on the club last night. JT’s mind appeared to be elsewhere. The shorthanded goal was a screw up of monumental proportions, which included forwards not backchecking to take Manson. The lazy ref, off in the corner instead of making an effort to get to the net to see if the puck was loose, cost them a goal as well. And now I will echo something CARP has mentioned many times……..the 17,000 in the building were given zero explanation as to why the goal was waved off. It was clear that the puck was loose, you could not hear a whistle. The ref came up and washed it out very late. The NHL reffing, while looking better early in the season, has deteriorated back to nonsense. These dudes don’t want to blow the whistle, ignoring stuff for both sides all night. Other than the odd rebound or two, Henrik was not at fault. He made some excellent stops as the defensemen around him stood around and watched the Ducks go to the net in waves.
Sounds like a top down issue to me James G. But hey AV, great coach right? Then again maybe it’s just tough getting young guys to listen these days! On a positive note they do have a 1st round draft pick this year. Hoping they draft for skill and not need as they have down so many times in the past.
Carp is right. Both Carolina and Tampa can still accumulate 97 points each. Losing one point for them would make it 96 max, but both will be short on ROWs
Bobbyo how dare you try to exercise common sense here! They stink, AV is a moron, Hank is washed up, Antti is the Messiah, Girardi and Klein are the worst defensemen on the planet, etc, etc, etc. Get with the program!
Anaheim is a great building to see an NHL game as far as sight lines, but is one of the most boring venues for NHL hockey otherwise. A dopey, screaming PA guy, crappy pregame and in-game experience and mostly indifferent spectators that arrive late and leave early. With that said, last night was one of the more enjoyable games of the season. So many Rangers fans, chants, and fun until the wheels fell off on the 3rd period. I was at the Garden for Connor Mcdavid’s visit in November and, while the pregame and in-game presentation is light years better, the crowd sucked until Nash scored the winning goal about 1:30 before OT. I will give Anaheim credit that playoff games are better, especially when they are against the Kings or Blackhawks, when there are 5-7000 fans of the opponent in the building.
Being that it seems AV does not see much in Buchnevich, and Buchnevich not giving him reason to see much, 7 D may be the way to go. I would rather 7 D than Glass playing.
I have to admit, I almost enjoy watching the Rangers go down in flames, because it gives us a chance to see some of our own enraged and squirming around trying to get out of their strait jackets.

Report: Rangers land Gophers standout Lettieri
Leave a comment
By Mike HalfordMar 27, 2017, 1:07 PM EDT
University of Minnesota senior Vinni Lettieri has agreed to join the Ranger organization, per the Star-Tribune.
Lettieri, 22, finished second on the club in goals this year, with 19, and third in scoring with 37 points in 38 games. The Star-Tribune’s Mike Russo reports Lettieri is joining New York’s AHL affiliate in Hartford, and that he and the Blueshirts are closing in on a two-year, entry-level contract.
Lettieri has some interesting bloodlines. His grandfather is former Minnesota North Stars player/head coach/GM Lou Nanne, and his father is former professional soccer netminder Tino Lettieri, who represented Canada at the 1986 World Cup.
The younger Lettieri went undrafted, and was a free agent following Minnesota’s NCAA championship loss to Notre Dame.
Coaches admire guys who work like dogs. They appreciate subtle things like character – things that we, as fans, often overlook as we continue searching for goals, goals and flash.
And the kid’s father Tino Lettieri I could never forget. I was at Giants Stadium and he was the goalie for the Minnesota Kicks when the Cosmos beat them in an NASL playoff shootout on their way to the NASL title. man, I am getting old.
JPP – That would be Tyler Nanne. He missed all of last year due to an illness (Myocarditis, inflammation of the heart muscle caused by a virus and I think he missed all of this year because he transferred from Ohio State to Minnesota – Micheletti must have been pissed that he didn’t go Minnesota first. Tyler is supposed to be an offensive d-man who is a good puck mover, but hasn’y played in two years.
TYM – I was at that game as well. Friend of the family had season tickets three rows behind the Cosmos bench. I used to love listening to the coaches yell at the players – especially Hennes Weisweiller.
Carp,
I’m sure AV loves Buchnevich, but he really doesn’t trust him to use him in the top 9. And Buchnevich hasn’t really given him reason to. Guessing Buchnevich will be a healthy scratch come game one. I would prefer 7 D instead of Glass.
Buchnevich plays same minutes as Lindberg and Fast. He doesn’t play PK, but plays some PP. If there is more PKs than PPs, he’ll play less minutes. I think leaving him in the lineup presents a constant scoring threat and makes match ups difficult for opposition. Though, admittedly, I’m worried about him being knocked off the puck in high traffic. Something that 4th line is required to play.
Ilb,
I am a Buchnevich fan, you don’t have to sell him to me. I’m just going by what I see. He is playing 4th line. Is that the best place for him? Not in anyway shape or form.
I have a solution to the Glass “problem”. Dress him for Game 1 against Montreal and have “kreider” Carey Price. It will cost us Game 1 as the Habs ring up about 3-4 goals on the ensuing PP, it will be worth it to get Price out of the series 🙂
Based on preseason expectations this season has been a success. Wining a playoff series would have them headed in the right direction. I just don’t think this group will do it. Too many C Game nights and too many fancy passes at times. Of course you only have to be one over 500 in each playoff series. Let’s see if they can manage that.
I don’t see where in the top nine they can play Buchnevich. Not over Vesey. Certainly not over anybody else but perhaps Grabner, but Grabner’s speed makes the third line go (when it isn’t coughing up hairballs as it did last night).
I’d rather see Buchnevich on fourth line than Glass, too. But I like Glass in certain situations, i.e. that Islanders game recently.
Agree that Buch does not fit on 4th line but there are worse problems to have… think we will see him more if we play Pitt or Ottowa but Glass against Washington or Bluejackets …Montreal more of a toss up
My prediction is that Nash will lead the Rangers in goals by seasons end, as Kreider can’t hit the broad side of barn lately, and the real Grabner is now the real Grabner!
Stoopid Lundqvist cost me a chance to go to the finals in bonehead league… and to think, I traded for him right before the deadline! Gave up Pat Kane for him! then I got to the semis without Hank while he was injured and in ONE game that he came back he TOTALLY fugged my goalie numbers and I lost because of that!
To boot, I met him as well. Our sports guy interviewed him on set. Pretty humble guy. I showed him the weather center and had the chance to talk a little puck with him. Knows Vesey and had nothing but great things to say about him. Always awesome to talk hockey with players/former players.
Not for nuttin’ but when you have a game like JT did against Anaheim, you have to sit him, if not for punishment for inanity, and then for being suspect of throwing the game for gamblers. Unspoken, whispered fact in any sport when a performance is that bad.
It’s a “check mark” Carp… a “check mark.”- btw- anyone else reminded of the movie “Major League” when the Rangers win a playoff game and add a piece to the Stanley cup puzzle….? (You know, where instead they take off a piece of clothing from the life-sized cardboard cutout of the female owner)
gets even more interesting since tampa plays both bost and tor. so for them to get 2 pts every game the others get no more than 1. since bost magic number to not catch us would be 3 it really would be 2 if tampa wins out. meaning if bost loses to anybody but tampa in regulation we also clinch playoff spot. bostons next game is tomorrow vs nashville. they lose in regulation we’re in.
Like many if not most Boneheads I perceive myself to be an excellent predictor of future events. One and done, that sort of thing. So you may take it the bank when I say to you, yea, verily, that no team ranked 6th in the Power Rankings at this point in the season has ever gone on in the playoffs to win or lose any fewer than 31 game, and so I predict–this info is as good as gold–the Soft Rangers will not win more than 16 games this extra season. Nor will they fail not to emerge unvictorious in any fewer than one or more. Book it.
Add another non-drafted collegian to the Ranegrs ranks. The team has signed 23-year-old sophomore defenseman Vince Pedrie from Penn State. Pedrie, 6-0/185, scored 30 points in 39 games last season after scoring eight goals and 14 assists in 32 games as a freshman. Pedrie, a lefty shot, spent four years in the USHL before going to PSU.
Just informed my Rangers rep that I am not renewing for next season at $119 per ticket.
The punishment is that I have to prepay all 4 rounds of playoffs 4 game each. Over $8500.
NYR surely know how to treat a season ticket holder with over 15 year tenure.
What a disgrace.
Cup, my tickets are the same price. I’ve got corporate sponsorship for next year. A company I work with is buying 16 of them, plus putting up 2/5 of the preseason game money. I’ve got another friend picking up 8 and 1/5 of the preseason. I get the remainder, most of which I will be selling.
What was your section? I imagine 200 level, second row, like me.
I was in 210.
I am so done with them.
They don’t even try to convince you. Like they don’t care. Just automated emails and nothing else. No phone calls, no intensives.
I asked about 1/2 season and he tells me he can’t guarantee that I’ll get it!!!??? What???
I’ve thought for some time that they should have gone back to the look from the playoffs last year with him and McDonagh as a pair, give them the heavier minutes, and try to hide Girardi and Holden as much as possible.
I really feel bad for you guys having to pay so much for season tickets. Plus putting out all the money just to watch them consistently lose stinks! The lighting season ticket package for upper level seats is I think something like $924. Of course I would rather watch paint dry than be a bolt ticket holder.
I’d pay $924 for Lightning tickets. 1-2 games against the Rangers. Then 1-2 games against certain teams with players worth the price of admission, i.e., Capitals, Penguins, Leafs, Blackhawks, Oilers, and Winnipeg. That’s about 8 games. That’s 115.5 per ticket, which is cheaper than my current tickets.
Sharks’ tix aren’t bad. comparable seats at the the tank to front row old time green seats are $70 each. Tonight, I will be three rows off the ice off the blue line ice the Rangers shoot at first and third at they were only $210
Fast was so awesome in the Anaheim game that he has, once again been promoted to the Hayes line. Vigneault’s obsession with Fast is…….disturbing. How do you improve the performance of a line that is underperforming offensively by putting a guy on it with zero offensive talent?
CUP–Same thing here in Anaheim this year…..while a STH used to only be charged for playoffs one round at a time, because I have decided not to enroll in an auto-renew program for the full season next year I had to pay for the whole 4 rounds up front. I think it says a lot about a league that depends so much on the sales of tickets to survive that they utilize these kind of dopey extortion tactics. If I were paying the prices fans in NY are paying, I would have bailed several years ago.
I know that a number of you guys will not agree, but the sooner AV gets a ticket out of town the better. Rangers are not winning a cup with him behind the bench. Fast in the top nine says one of 2 things. Either the Rangers have no one better to play top 9 min. or the coach is clueless! Take your pick.
I get all 82 games plus playoffs, with the best seat in the house and the cost per game is a 12-Pack of my favorite beer. I gave up sending money to Dolan many years ago.
It’s tough to replace 10 top players, after a championship season. A lot of Freshman, but the goal that was taken away in OT, was such a kick in the balls. and to lose it in 2OT isn’t being roasted. IT’s a one and done tournament.
Next year will be a Big year for the Sioux.
Boeser plays a game on Friday night and the next night he gets a Game winning Goal for the Canucks, against the Wild, in his home town. Pretty special First round draft pick going pro a 1/2 day out of school.
That’s the beauty of watching kids develop in college.
So I’m in AZ all next week, a high school friend works part time for the Suns. So I’ll get to watch Stephan Curry on Wednesday for free, and Boeser & Stecher on Thursday for $10.
Thanks Carp feel better already 3 more years without a cup probably 4. McDonagh will be what 31, 32 barely able to shake from having no 1st line partner! Well they are winning tonight 4-2 in spite of the genius behind the bench. And Fast will not score.
You guys should just be thankful the NHL has been kind enough not to enact a seat license too. Figure 25K for those 200’s.
So JT is getting demoted tonight? Meh. AV seems to know what buttons to push with that kid, not my place to disagree. As to Buch, I think AV would like to play Buch more but just doesn’t trust him. The back thing really set him back(!) both in development as a player and with the coaches. He’ll get a lot more time next year as they are bound to move Zuch over the summer to a) make room and b) try to get some defensive help.
Mike Reilly was much more highly touted at Minnesota and that why Skjei played a secondary role there. So far his NHL career is going better than Reilly’s who was in the AHL all season this year after playing 17 games for the Wild last year. Every time I saw him play in college his skating ability was obvious. His vision on the ice is better than I had thought, but, he has to work on defensive positioning. Not bad for a late first round pick. If they do as well with their pick this year they will be quite happy.
For all you season ticket holders, I feel your pain.Started in 1974 in 312 for 6 dollars a game and gave up sometime after lockout when tickets went over 50. After they won the cup msg sent out a replica ticket in Lucie that I have hanging on a wall. The price for that game was 46 dollars. All I can say is thank god for 55 inch televisions
Carp- How can you be so negative? You have no idea who the next coach after AV will be, nor do you have any idea what our playoff chances will be. Your naysaying is not welcome here! I certainly could not be like that. ; )
I just saw one of the most disgusting abuses in officiating history. Especially when viewed in light of what happened just before the incident.
In the Panthers-Toronto game, Thomas Vanek was high-sticked…..no call. Ok, that happens all the time. About a minute later it appeared that Roman Polak high-sticked Jonathan Huberdeau. The refs and linesmen convened for more than a reasonable amount of time a and then announced a two minute minor for high-sticking.
Mike Babcock argued that Polak hit the puck into Huberdeau’s face which, upon seeing the video, is what happened. The video was shown on the jumbotron and the crowd went crazy. The officials saw the video, reconvened….and then CANCELLED THE PENALTY!
This is not a video reviewable call! They already discussed it and called it a penalty. WTF?! I’m happy they got the call right but there’s a reason why most things aren’t subject to a video review. Refs still get things wrong and play continues. Follow the friggin rules.
Toronto. Babcock. The officials. Collusion. I have never seen such disgraceful officiating.
As I’ve previously stated, should be a rule you can’t raise your stick above the shoulders no matter what. Only a matter of time until an eye pops out on the ice.
I hope the Panthers complain like crazy to the NHL after the game. Playoffs, no playoffs, big city or little town, good team or not…no team should get preferential enforcing of rules.
They got the call right by not following the letter of the law? That’s what I would call OUTSTANDING refereeing. The Nobel for reffing will go to the first ref who tells a coach, one who has asked for an offside call in order to wipe out a good goal, “Uh… no.” I dare the league to fire him.
Norm, the letter of the law is that a penalty is not reviewable by video unless it’s goalie interference and results in a goal. They made the call AFTER ALREADY DISCUSSING IT. Then they saw the video amd changed the call. That’s bull. That’s preferential treatment and NOT following the letter of the law.
Of that’s the case then the refs should’ve looked at the video for Vanek getting high-sticked as well. Preferential.
EVR, you’re making my point for me. The letter of the law comes a distant second behind getting the call right. I’d like them to drop review altogether, other than goal line stuff (easily solved problem, see soccer “goal line technology”.) But I have no problem with refs making a call based on what the entire crowd can see/has seen, if that’s what happened in this case.
We suck again!

Stoopid Lundqvist cost me a chance to go to the finals in bonehead league… and to think, I traded for him right before the deadline! Gave up Pat Kane for him! then I got to the semis without Hank while he was injured and in ONE game that he came back he TOTALLY fugged my goalie numbers and I lost because of that!

gets even more interesting since tampa plays both bost and tor. so for them to get 2 pts every game the others get no more than 1. since bost magic number to not catch us would be 3 it really would be 2 if tampa wins out. meaning if bost loses to anybody but tampa in regulation we also clinch playoff spot. bostons next game is tomorrow vs nashville. they lose in regulation we’re in.

LikeLike
They should move Nash, Zuch is the top scorer and much better on the power play!

and after AV is gone you will have a much worse coach and much less chance to compete in the playoffs, so there’s that.
I think AV will move Miller up after a few shifts. The kid obviously needs a kick in the ass from time to time, and usually responds from such.
also, should have had Fast … or anybody … on that line that gave up four gift assists to Getzlaf.
