  1. Norm, the letter of the law is the officials “saw” a high-stick and called that…AFTER discussing it. The only new info they received after the call was ALREADY MADE was the crowd’s reaction, the offending team’s coach’s explanation and the video. None of which is evidence that can be used to reverse that call! And the missed call right before it is just evidence of preferential treatment.
What are you having trouble understanding here?

  2. EVR, you’re making my point for me. The letter of the law comes a distant second behind getting the call right. I’d like them to drop review altogether, other than goal line stuff (easily solved problem, see soccer “goal line technology”.) But I have no problem with refs making a call based on what the entire crowd can see/has seen, if that’s what happened in this case.

  3. Grabner is back to the player he was when he was on the islanders. I remember him getting at least 1 break away a game and couldn’t finish to save his life, the Cinderella slippers are off.

  4. There was a time when Lundqvist would have made that save, those were the days, now just a average goalie. Ranger fans got spoiled when it came to Lundqvist, unfortunately those days are over.

  5. Unforgivable. How come that all other teams are more opportunistic and use every chance and Rangers are not with their “speed and skills”?

  6. I love when they put the puck in the o-zone and glide in…. what a forecheck! If that’s by design, it’s just genius. It’s like pfffft…no tic-tac-toe option available on this rush? I’ll just shoot it in and make a half ass attempt to retrieve it or just glide to the bench!

  7. EVR, thank you you for clarifying what I meant, that the fans should be the refs. I was so close to understanding what I was writing until you made my thoughts clear to me. Of course, there’s the piddling little matter that they got the call right…

  8. Nah ah, Eveockriser! Nah ah! You’ll see! We’ll rub our magic crystals and turn it on in the playoffs! We’re so good- you just need to have faith! Yep- that’s it! Otherwise you’re a fairweather fan. Don’t be objective and call it like you see it… that’s just silly!

  9. Psst, Evr: I don’t need your help. We disagree about the strength of the letter of the law, is all. I’m in the discretionary school formed by former NHL refereeing great, Ralph Waldo Emerson, that a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

  10. Finally, Red Wings’ playoff string ends at 25 seasons… I’m was getting pretty tired of seeing them contend year after year…

On and, PS, This Rangers team sux 🙂

  11. Losing games like that usually comes to the 2 basic things – it is just inability to move puck quickly and safely out of own zone and lack of creative way of offence.

  12. House of cards…. that’s what this team is. Absolutely baffled how they’re 20 over .500. And it’s NOT going to get better in the playoffs. But hey….. give me crap bc I’m critical of this awesome team that can’t even be bothered to compete, or for that matter…complete a freaking pass.

  14. Baffling indeed. Winning games by accident all year long. Something to do with scoring more goals than the other team more often than not, can’t quite put my finger on it. But, yes, the true measure of a team is how well they perform in meaningless games.

  15. Here goes Norm again with the meaningless games excuse….. Let’s talk again the playoffs because I have a funny feeling they’ll still be in “meaningless” mode… only those games count. Hey, come to think of it, we still haven’t clinched a playoff spot….

  17. Man, I have no idea what the Rangers can possibly draw upon when the postseason begins. Not nearly enough guys on the roster who know what it takes to go on a playoff run. If only they had some experience!

  18. There it is, the number one reason to root for the Rangers, loud and clear. Make enough gloomy predictions to be able to say “I told you so” if they fail. If they do well, everybody’s happy. All bases covered. Me, I say: Let’s Go, Rangers!

  19. Are they capable of turn tide in 3rd? Doubt it, unless they will have some “Grey Goose” shots in the intermission and call Torts for motivational locker-room speech.

  20. Why do we watch? Because we’re fans of the franchise….. I’ve been a fan since I could walk. But this team is trash. Their record is a mirage and when the men are seperated from the boys in the playoffs, we’ll be sent home packing real fast. I’m sorry but this team does not inspire confidence. The bottom line is, they won a lot of games they didn’t deserve, and when you have to fight for every inch of ice in the playoffs… pure luck doesn’t advance round after round. You get exposed.

  21. I think the Rangers have a good shot, not a great one, but a good one. Lundqvist has five games to chip off the rust, the rest of the roster is relatively healthy, there’s some competition for the last couple of spots, and it’s time for them to gradually ramp it up, see what they’ve got going in. But these are exhibition games, and they’ve earned the right to treat them that way. Stay healthy!

  22. In 2007/8, I did not watch the first playoff game against Tampa Bay as I went snowboarding, convinced the Giant’s were so mediocre late that season that it would be an awful game/waste of time and a miracle if they won it. Needless to say, they pulled out a efw more miracles that winter.

  23. The Rangers may or may not hold on here, but this game is not the best example you might to pick to show that they have no chance in the playoffs. And the best away record didn’t happen by accident.

  25. Good morning Boneheads! Just woke and checked the score another loss imagine that. Hank rounding into form. I know it’s not his fault, never is. But without him being Great this bunch has no chance. My question, will the NYR win another game this year with Lundqvist in net?

  26. West Coast games = 3:30am puck drop here so no chance of watching that one!

From what the highlights show could easily have gone the other way but for a post.

My one and only observation would be to get Coach Orion and the Ducks teach the Rangers how to pick up the trash – most of these recent goals are coming from 2nd/3rd shots and rebounds – and generally players not picking up their men around the net or moving their feet enough once they get into a defensive position.

  27. The enjoyment of reading the go time comments is gone. It has been hi jacked by one or two people who have nothing but hatred towards the Rangers. Norm and Olga are there trying to fight the good fight, but they seem to be out numbered.

  28. hey gloom and doomers…in the playoffs in a good spot something we did not have last year… Hank just needs to get a few more games to get up to speed and a few guys especially McD should get a game or 2 off down the stretch.

  29. At this point if we are going to leave a defenseman unprotected in the expansion draft I say it should be Holden. Klein has had a rough year but he’s been banged up for most of it. He’s been valuable in the three prior seasons he’s been here. Holden had one solid stretch and has had a lot of ugly out there. Not too big a difference in age. Not losing anything that can’t be replaced. Nothing good anyhow.

  30. Didn’t everyone also freak out when Lundqvist came back after that vascular injury to his neck because he got shelled in Boston and then wasn’t as sharp as Talbot over the next couple of games? And then he found his game and everyone calmed down (really, they just moved on to the next problem)..You’d think at least some of those fans learned from that situation. The pessimism is really getting to be unlikable.

  31. in the grand scheme of things I’ll reiterate my long term problem with this organization: Way too much time over the last two seasons talking about how they need to play a full 60 minutes. They know they have to be better, they know it needs to change, theyre pissed off about their effort, they’re not sure why it happens but it needs to get fixed. And yet it’s still one of the biggest problems to date. Maybe it’s time to find out who or what is responsible for this issue and attempt to correct it?

  32. “I’m a big believer in playing the right way and for two periods we didn’t play the right way. We kind of got dominated,” Derek Stepan said
Agree perspective is needed but Step would be a Negative Nancy with his comment. What no Step comments on ‘playing the right way?’
    .
Some are more emotionally attached to the winning and losing of every game, some can see a bigger picture. Some just quit on them and root for another team (cough, cough)

Just happy they stayed in 1st WC for POs. Got Pumps a game, kicked JT in the arse, exposed Holden as the real 7th D and created more Henk Angst.

  33. I’ll be Mr. Sunshine when they show up for 60 minutes which they haven’t done in about a month. They had about 15 minutes of good hockey last night at the beginning of the third period. Just enough to rob an hour of sleep from me. Other than that it was another no show. JT got two but did watch Tierney get the third Shark goal. Sjkei is as good as Yandle right now and has the size and willingness to become a better defender. Keep those first rounders. Holden was awful, but, the call on him in OT was sketchy. If you put your stick in somebody’s stomach you shouldn’t get a call. Hank brought his B game. Let’s hope he finds his A game. IF he doesn’t does Raanta get a playoff start? Quenville did it with Crawford last year.

Pens beat Bolts 2-1 in Game 7 of ECF so the spin of ‘losing to SC champ’ is a helpful yet tenuous claim.

  36. I think if they’ve got any sense LV will stay well away from Holden or Klein and will probably steal one of Grabner, Jesper Fast or Oscar Lindberg. Lindberg would be my choice, he could easily move up the 2nd line (and possibly end up with Hagelin on his wing) – or Auntie if they’re not able to take someone like Malcolm Subban, Grubauer or Korpisalo

  37. These games have not mattered, except for the 13- and 7-spot tryouts, for a month. They’re beginning to matter as they ramp up, but any team that tries to play 3-period hockey for 82 games, especially when they’re locked into a playoff spot early, is an idiot.

  38. The reality is the Rangers have had nothing to play for, for close to a month. They are going to be the first wild card, and many of the teams they have been playing have had more to play for. I know that’s an excuse for the way they have been playing, but it also the truth.

  39. Just a thought, if they are not going to put forth the effort as good entertainers do just because there is nothing to play for. Than may they should reduce ticket prices since we are not getting the best show possible!

  40. As far as the hand-wringing Go Time comments are concerned, it’s just a way for folks to get through a game they care about. We all do it; it’s only a question of degree. And it is entertaining, especially the Rangers as a gaggle of eunuchs who can’t pass, shoot, forecheck, backcheck, goaltend–see, RIGHT THERE, Stepan can’t hit a barn door (later he scores a beauty), Grabner just showed you with that miss that the Rangers, just stating facts, are one-and-done, season already over, franchise over, city over, country over, world over. I told you so!! Where is everyone…?
