  1. Good morning, boneheads!
    If they lose, they suck.
If they win, they’re dumb because they may end up above the Pens and end up playing Columbus
Either way, AV should be fired and McD is a bad captain.
    Am I missing something?

  2. Another flat playoff performance will necessitate changes. AV does have a better relationship with the media and players so he likely won’t take the hit. More likely that there will be roster moves to change the team chemistry. Some guys who frequently bring their C games may be part of a hockey trade. Especially if they do it in the playoffs.

  3. I will tell you, ORF, AV has no friends in the media. He’s not hated, but he has zero relationship with any of us, has never called one of us by name, and virtually never talked to any of us outside of his pressers, which you can tell are pretty uncomfortable and mostly useless.

Some people hated Torts, and AV doesn’t have any of that, either. Nobody hates him that I know of, and he’s respectful. But anybody in my business who wouldn’t rather have Torts pressers than AV pressers is nuts, IMO.

  4. Is Patrik Elias a HOFer? One season with 90 points, one with 80. He scored 400 goals, and 1000 pts. I always viewed him as a very good player, but not great.

  5. Interesting comment Carp. I always liked Torts’ pressers as a fan. Very entertaining and sometimes informative. You can empathize with a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve. I didn’t realize they were fun as a participant. There won’t be a mutiny against AV. At times it seems like this group couldn’t muster enough emotion to do that.

I just don’t hate the pens, they’ve always had a player on their team I really like (letang currently…and hornqvist to a lesser degree) and I have a ton of respect for Crosby. He whined quite a bit in his early few years, but hasn’t been that way in a while. The slashes and physical abuse he endures every game is pretty crazy. I like the way he gives it back too, willing to throw a hit, stands up for teammates, will drop the gloves, leads by example, will definitely get greasy.

All that being said, I certainly don’t root for them, but I don’t hate them.

  8. AV: “It was a hard-fought battle, both teams played real hard. We had some good looks. The power play had some Grade A chances.”

Then he does the football coach thing where he does some play by play: “We came back and tied the game, but then they scored late and we lost the game …”

which is inevitably followed by, “so we’ll get back to practice and work real hard tomorrow and prepare for Pittsburgh.”

  9. I don’t know enough about baseball to comment on Raines.

Warner is one of those examples of what matters more: the peak of a guy’s career or its longevity? He had those two epic years. It’s hard to keep a two time league MVP out of any sport’s hall of fame. I also think that run to the Super Bowl with the Cardinals helped him out a lot.

  11. And Wick you can like some guys on Pittsburgh but let’s call a spade a spade. Crosby may be a phenom but he’s a lot of other things too. Some of which can be spelled with 4-letters. I guess that’s what happens when Mario takes you under his wing.

  12. Price is playing better than Lundqvist, and the Rangers can’t win at the Bell centre.

But this year they win on the road, so it’s 50/50 in a 7 game series. It will go 7 games.

The King will have to be “in court” to win this battle.

  14. Scottsdale – it bothers me a lot. My kid has a McDonough jersey. He plays defense on his squirt team because he says he wants to be like McDonough. I feel like McDonough owes Crosby an ass-kicking and it should have happened right then and there the way that Brendan Smith dealt with Corey Perry.

If you’re the captain, you set an example for the entire team. He’s probably my favorite player, but the fact that he looked so unprepared to deal with Simmonds last year and that Crosby rag-doll incident make no sense.

McDonough is our most important skater and thus has a target on his back. He should be mentally and physically prepared for that kind of crap and ready to deal with it on the spot.

  15. McDonagh IS the most important skater, and because of that he should not be wasting his time dropping the gloves. Especially if he’s not good at. Which I think is a safe assumption.

  16. You don’t want your best player sitting for 5,7, or 17 unless he is also taking out the other teams best. The Skid-knees tiff was a mugging and everyone was waiting for McD to stand up for himself. That he didn’t shows the league he won’t do so which is also the reason why Skid jumped him. He knew he was an easy mark.

  17. You guys are making a big deal about the Crosby rag doll thing. First of all he got caught off guard then everyone including refs stepped in and sent him to the box.
What bothered me most about that whole incident was that he went back to playing “safe” hockey after that game and wasn’t nearly as aggressive as he looked up to that point.

  18. This is pathetic. I don’t give a crap if they have “nothing to play for”. That’s just an excuse for crappy play. Have some pride. This is a half-assed pens team that’s lost 4 straight. Granted, that usually means we’ll lose but still…. C’mon.

  22. So they played OK for about 12 minutes until the Pens picked it up a notch. The compete level for this team is nonexistent right now. That can’t continue. They are going to lose consecutive games to teams that are on 6and 4 game losing streaks. The Knicks are playing harder than them tonight.

  23. At the game tonight. Very weird energy. It’s like the Rangers operate on wavelengths. Up and down, up and down. Hank making giant saves and one big flub. Figures it was Sid. Ah well. At least he’s getting work. Murray looks really sharp but I’m really curious why he didn’t have to go through the concussion protocol. I’m sitting behind him and he clearly whacked his head and was dazed. Did they say anything in the tv feed?

  27. Hank looked like a real amature on those shot-out goals Wow! SC & Kessel never had easier goals. Maybe someday they will win another home game. However they did get a point grabbing defeat out of the jaws of defeat!

  28. Norm, so Kreider scores the goal that he should not score and now ShampooBoy may be banged up some more. This was a game they were better off to lose, and should have done so in regulation. Of all the meaningless games they have played of late, this one actually had a tiny bit of meaning. Getting out the door with a respectable performance and everyone in one piece was the ticket. And who knows what Holden was thinking, clearly channeling Clendening.

  30. No need to worry boys these games are meaningless. The real season starts in game 1 of the playoffs. And they will finish all those good looks lol! Someone please answer me this how can they not score on that 2 on none? Boggles the mind. This bunch is good just not good enough. Might be a long time before they are. Man I hate the pens.

  31. Blaming Hank on the shootout goals is pretty silly. The game would have been 7-2 without him. The number of wide open chances Pitt had directly in front of the crease was nuts. He played a great game. The hit he took in OT looked pretty bad. He was moving his neck and shoulder around a lot for the rest of the OT. Hopefully he is ok and just a little banged up. I will say that the crowd finally got into it in the 3rd which was nice to hear. Murray was also stellar. Poor Grabner….

Opie you may not know because you were clearly not watching the NYR those other 60 games. Really strong? Does he honestly believe that?

  34. The Ranger sure have a lot of “I need to” and “We need to” sign of a coaching staff and team without any answers. I will admit Hank was good last night, but the better goalie won. Switch net-minders and The NY Rangers win that game. But that’s just my opinion.

  35. I’m happy they tied it late and and made it exciting and all, but man, this team struggles because of a lack of capabilities when up against a team stocked with talent. I really hope they can make a go of it in the post season.

  36. Eli, I’ve said it all season and not many agree with me but Murray is the clear cut difference maker. They can’t solve him enough to win against this team. Another goalie with the Rangers’ number

  37. James G there seems to be quite a few goalies with their number. I also believe it is a lack of elite talent. They just don’t have any great finishers! Lundqvist has always been the difference in the past giving them a shot in any series, not any more it seems. I drove by Paciugo Thursday at work and remembered you being there and thought, I should would have liked to set down together have a beer and talk Rangers hockey.

  38. Hank was better. Maybe that was his B game. That allowed them to steal a point. They were ok for the first ten minutes and pretty good for the last ten. In between they played with the intensity of a September exhibition game. Maybe they can step it up or maybe that just aren’t that good. Gorton has to figure out which it is and act accordingly. Two year in a row they have imploded after the trade deadline.

  42. Norm with all due respect use whichever adjectives you want to describe Murray but the no matter what you want to take away from any game against Pittsburgh since May of 2016, the Rangers are not able to beat him. Not even once in the last 12 months have they faced him and beaten him. So unless you want to play the “anything can happen” card (which you’re more than welcomed to do because there’s no malice behind this post) just consider agreeing with me that they need some serious improvements in order to compete with the Pens the way they have in the past.

  43. No ‘the sky is falling’ posts from me today. I’m just trying to figure out what this team can do to correct their issues. I’m not going to use the term “smoke and mirrors” or talk crap about how they over achieved or any of that nonsense. The bottom line is that until last night they had the exact same amount of wins as the Pens team they faced and could have beaten in overtime. But to say that they’re matched evenly with them is to wear blinders. There needs to be some kind of righting of the ship here. A lucky bounce, a veteran stepping up – whatever it is needs to happen relatively soon.

  44. In past years if they scored three they won. They have to get back to that somehow. I’m not sure this group can do that. Showing up for 20 minutes game is just not going to cut it. They went 0 for March at home during which they have chutzpah to announce a ticket price hike. Welcome the world’s most overpriced arena.

  45. ORF- those were the years where the defense was in it’s prime. Girardi and/or Staal were capable of playing as a shut down pair against players like Crosby and Ovechkin. They aren’t capable of that level of play anymore unfortunately.

  47. BDL while I won’t get too down on their chances in a series against Montreal, I’ll take a betting man’s approach to this one. What odds do you give a team against Montreal when they can’t win a game at home and they can’t win a game up in Montreal?

    Like

  48. And I agree with you. The in and out of the line up stuff and the juggling of combinations isn’t helping and it’s the sign of a coach without a solution to his team’s problems. His post game presser was as generic as some predicted it would be. Put your best line up back together and let them play their way out of this.

  49. I have no problem with all y’all pushing the panic button and looking for negativity wherever you can find it during this utterly meaningless stretch of games, where the only business the Rangers have needed to tend to is health. Now it’s legitimate ramp-up time and they just tied the Penguins, who were probably annoyed they coughed it up. They haven’t needed to play 60-minute games, and they wisely haven’t. They know what will be needed, and I will become almost as bothered if they mail in the last handful. LGR!

  50. In other words, while the outcome of those remaining 4 games isn’t important ( 1 point gained in Boston assures they cross to Atlantic division), at some point AV needs to stop experimenting and settle on what he sees is his best lineup. More or less.
