Rangers 3, Penguins 2

That’s not just the score, that’s the number of players who were trying.

Does anyone want to volunteer to write a playoff preview? I thought I was going to have some time to write one myself but I’m afraid that won’t be possible.

  1. Good morning, boneheads!
A lot of emotions last night. They know how to do it at the Garden, that’s for sure. Classy. And the fans chanting “104” while everyone is tearful on the ice tells you everything you need to know about New Yorkers.
I had another bout of moist eyes this morning while watching Bryan Bickell score the SO goal.
Moments like these reminds one it’s not all about hockey.

  2. They had another shootout a couple of nights ago in his first game back and he didn’t get to shoot. I thought to myself how dumb it was that Peters didn’t put him over he boards first. Good to see he rectified his error.

  4. Good morning Boneheads! I do not have the same anticipation and for that matter the same anxiety as I had in their Presidents Trophy season. I really believed they were going all the way that year. This year not so much. I don’t think Montreal is a better team but Price is the better goalie by far, and that will be the difference. So no stress watching the games this year as I expect an early exit similar to last year. I hope I’m wrong I really do.

  5. Playoff preview:
Scenario 1 – Rangers win and the four RR Horsemen will nitpick and predict doom
Scenario 2 – Rangers lose and the four RR Horsemen kick their heels and predict doom
I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said the Four Horsemen, I should have said the four ‘realists’

  6. Good to see Vesey score last night. Not so good to see him utterly whiff on Bonino earlier on. Vesey is an exciting player but still an utter liability in-zone, still puck-watches far too often. Surprised he’s never really entered the conversation about that 12th spot. It’s been all about Glass and Buchnevich, the former who’s not in the lineup for his production, obviously, and the latter who’s been more productive (per game) than Vesey. Pretty good problem to have, I suppose. And I still have no idea who’s got the 6-spot on D. I would guess Klein, but neither he nor Smith has covered himself with glory during these admittedly meaningless games.

  7. Probably numerous opps for Sabres unable to finish his passes that contributed more to missing the bonus.
Interesting that they use pts/game given he missed 21 games…

  8. Both VC, Butch, and Glass should all be watching two veteran 2 way forwards with PK and/or FO prowess that Gorton should have picked up for late round picks.
    .
Dwight King for a 4th rounder and Steve Ott for a 6th rounder come to mind. We’ll see how those pan out in the next 2 weeks.
    .
    Post ASG:
    Butch: 23 games; 2-4-6; ) 0 PP pts.
    VC: 31 Games; 4-3-7; 1 PP pt. (G)

  9. Top of the morning Boys!

Anything could happen this year, and the Rangers are healthy. But is Hank at the Top of his game? Can he just flip the switch and decide he is all world and shut down every team every game forward? We will see…..

If I was a betting man I would go with the Caps at 7-1 as the Stanley Cup favorites THIS year.

  10. I’m not nervous. I really want the rangers to win it all like all other ranger fans do, but I’m less enamoured with this team than in less seasons as far as playoff success goes. I sincerely hope I am wrong, so LGR!

  11. Montreal radio…they are really concerned about Galchenyuk and the vowel and how they play. Player interviews bringing up 2014 and Kreider (good for us). Most hockey reporters covering them seem to think it’s just talk and not really that big of deal.

  12. Miller, Kreider and hayes need to score.

Can this team score 2+ goals per game against the Canadiens? I hope so, but the new Canadiens defense is pretty stingy.

Bruce Jenner used to be my hero. i don’t know what the heck happened to that guy. I think he watched too much daytime network TV.

  13. Everyone has a clean slate? So it’s like training camp? Going to play several ahl guys to see if they have a shot at making the roster?

Or does he mean every team is now in the same position? (Which quite honestly isn’t accurate)

    Odd statement either way

  16. Kreider gives good, if laconic interview. Heard the Met’s Syndergaard a number of times. Intellectually challenged, and egocentric to the extreme, poor chap. But the boy can throw it.

  18. “Les Rangers me font peur!” – Guy Carbonneau

  23. Good morning, boneheads!
So the more I read around the internet, the more it becomes apparent that it’ll take a miracle for NY to win this round, and Montreal should be getting ready to play Boston. Alrighty then! Have these people watched any games this season?

  24. I like and admire Tanner Glass, but for Gorton and AV to drag him up from the foggy bottom of Hartford every time they need grit and energy tells me that they are (at least in this instance) incompetent.

  27. @coos: not to suggest competency in NYR front office, but what gritty, hard nosed player that can skate and contribute on a regular basis would you suggest they get (in the past or next season) and at what price? My take is we remain heavily cap constrained and that is why Tanner Glass (who I do like and admire and think is not as dreadful as most believe)

  28. Desperate times =desperate measures, Coos. They built this team with the mind set of maximizing speed and skill and thought early on that if they shoved those attributes down the leagues throats every night they would be fine. Once they got healthy and saw what they had with everyone finally playing there was some physicality and grind thrown in their way and the 82 game schedule wore on some guys and they realized they were missing an element they only have in this guy. Not goos

  30. Beezle – we were way under the cap at the deadline to add players. Picked up Smith for a 2nd/3rd which is pretty steep for a guy who plays like anywhere from a 2nd pair to a 7th D from game to game. I like Smith but he is another 2nd/3rd pair guy on a team full of them.
    .
Dwight King went for a 4th rounder. My guess there were other bottom 6 forwards that could have been added for depth. Very thin on the bottom 6 depending on how you define a defensive player in AV’s system.
