  1. Losing this series will really piss me off. I expect us to lose in 5 or 6 in next round but after beating Habs this series loss would hurt too much.

  4. I think Hank has faced about 250 shots so far in the playoffs and that is his first soft goal. I’m not giving up on him yet. He came back with 2 good saves after. We need to stay out of the box and generate some offensive zone time. And Miller and Kreider need to show up for the 2nd period. LGR!

I understand that “play to win” philosophy, but in the Rangers’ case, I don’t think putting the forward at the point really makes their power play that much better.

With the 2 goal lead, I would’ve been more traditional there.

But that’s why AV is coaching the game, and I’m home watching.

I have changed my mind about one thing………it is not heart, guts or onions with this club. They are just plain stupid. They have too many players who are hockey morons. How else to you explain allowing a career scrub to pot 4 goals in a playoff game? Henrik deserved better in game 1. This game, 6 goals past him. So he was not the difference maker this time. But Nash? Horrid. Holden/Staal? Horrid. JT? Pathetic. Hayes? Useless. Add to that Girardi being Girardi and you come home 0-2.

People weren’t giving Ottawa enough credit, they have been a competitive group since that seven game series against the rangers in 2012, type of team that plays well in the playoffs, and they have a goalie who can steal games he’s so good sometimes.

They are down 2-0. They just as easily could be up 2-0. The only thing that matters is game 3.

We got hayes and vesey to offset that. We have Ryan Graves almost ready. Getting Smith on D helped us a lot. SKeij is in year one!! BUCH is baby yet. Rangers have good forward assets if needed to trade or continue to grow. We have a goalie prospect in KHL that was 31-4! other goalie prosepects: hlaverson, Adam Huska and Tyler wall with our ace BEN-WAH BALLS Allaire. Forwards are young and NYR always have chance to send top guys. We were supposed to take a step back this year. Ill take this any day over the decade of futility we had post 1997. 33. So how does this rank in terms of worst playoff losses? Some bad ones off the top of my head: both OT games against the Kings in ’14. Game 6 against NJ in ’12. The Ron Francis game in ’92. Multiple John Druce games in ’90

  34. This was one of the worst. There was a game against the Caps when they had a 3-0 in the third and were ahead in the series. They stared playing pond hockey and the caps tied them. The OT winner went in when Gaborik and Hank mishandled the puck in the crease with no Cap around. They lost the series after that game. This game was worse though since they were clearly better than the Sens, but, every scoring chance the Sens had wound up in the net. Also Hank never had games like today years ago.

  37. Rangers lost because of mediocre (at best) goaltending and some bad bounces. However all the bounces have gone against them in this series and maybe it means it just isn’t meant to be. Ottawa didn’t get great goaltending either and found a way to win. Rangers have to dig deeper and see what they have. I’m not optimistic like Carp. Beating someone 4 of 5 is tough. If they lose the next one they are not going to win the series, but, that is not a reason to blow it up. This is not a cup team and wining in the first round was a step in the right direction.

  41. I have been through this so many times over the many years (since 1968 when I started paying attention to them) that I don’t get bent out of shape or have games ruin my day like I used to. The last time I did was the finals vs. the Kings. It is cup or nothing for me these days. So I don’t really get amped up unless I think they have a real shot at it, which I don’t think they do with Pittsburgh out there. So once the game was tied I felt like this was inevitable. Ottawa had no business a being in this game, but the combination of mindless mistakes and crappy goaltending allowed them to be. The first goal Girardi and Lundqvist teamed up to look like PeeWee B players. The second, Stepan and Nash could not bother to back check when Hoffman got around Skjei. Then the process of making a star out of Pageau really began. The Rangers decided to leave the guy uncovered twice in front of Henrik, then the open net that Nash was not strong enough one his stick to bury (not unlike the finals against LA) and Henrik reverting to not being able to cope with a shot high to his glove side for the winner. If they cannot handle Ottawa, Pittsburgh would dispatch them quickly. So this just means that I won’t have to jump through hoops to see the next game. I hope they win, of course. But there are holes that need to be filled and core players that need to be moved in order for them to be contenders.

  42. That was a tough time for Hank to crash to earth. I donโ€™t really put the blame on him for the last 2 goals against in regulation, but there is no doubt he was off and fighting it all game and his team didnโ€™t help him out. Very confused as to why Smith and Skjei weren’t on the ice more in the 3rd. I hated all those late icings and our continued inability to clear the zone in late stages. Hank has to figure it out though and continue to be the best blueshirt on the ice. Otherwise we are screwed…

Lindberg got benched too? fOr the NYR to win this year had to be four lines pressuring…when we are a two or three line team its not the same and the D cant take the pressure. We didnt have the forwards in years past, but we were shutdown D. We are not shutdown D any more. I still expect this team to respond like they have in the past. Too talented not to. Buch had to be a bigger part of team for us to be even better…its a lot to ask of a young kid in NA for first time. NYR have handled their young kids great…Buch will be another well handled young kid. I’m not at all for firing AV…i hope they dont…who else you going to bring in thats better? 49. technically speaking, they’re not done, but it’s no stretch to say their entire season comes down to Tuesday night. based upon the Henrik Lundqvist that’s shown up for this series (i.e. the Henrik Lundqvist we saw for the majority of the 2016-17 regular season), there’s little reason to be optimistic. I’m sure some people will hang goals today on Girardi, Holden, Staal et al., but Henrik Lundqivst wasn’t even a little good today. He fought the puck every second of the game and was outplayed by a guy who, frankly, wasn’t that close to good, either. the difference was that in the latter stage of the game, anybody who was paying attention could see that if the Sens needed a stop on anything more than a decent scoring chance, they would most likely get it. the Rangers were at the point yesterday where the decent chance against was ending up in the back of then net. Nick Holden sucks. there’s no disputing that. he’s given so much proof down the stretch that his 34 regular season points have in no way translated to the postseason (where he’s not even a street cone) – the pairing of Holden and Marc Staal is Girardi 2014 playoffs-level bad. but the goaltender came up unequivocally small today, and what’s most sobering about his performance is that the constant fighting of the puck, flopping, guessing and winding up out of position were the staples of a mediocre 16-17 season that made a backup goalie frequently look the better option. that the Rangers let some 3rd-liner score one third of his total season’s goal output in a playoff isn’t really all that surprising when you’re a Rangers fan, nor does the team sink or swim because of it. Henrik Lunqvist looking old and slow on the other hand, and remaining the starter in game 3, is a death sentence of this team. unfortunately for Lundqvist, as great as he was in the series against Montreal, when compared with the rest of 2016-17, that performance was an aberration. forget round 1, though; if a decent Henrik Lundqvist doesn’t show up on Tuesday night, this series is over.

  52. Well that sucked. Tremendous amount of ShampooBoy bashing on da Radio postgame. At least two of those goals were softies. Unfortunately, much of fanbase incorrectly interprets anything less than idoltry by others as “he sucks!” At his prime (when he was a top 5 netminder,) HL gives up at most two in that game. The lights out games now come with a helping of pedestrian (or worse) games, seemingly at the worst of times.

Seriously time to bench JT. I love the kid but he was dreadful out there. Clearly missed whatever it was that Buch and/or Machine did, but really don’t get just 5 mins of ice time for them, Machine in particular. Can understand AV not fully trusting either Skjei or Smith, but both Holden and Staal have had some really bad plays too. Gotta make those TOIs even up.

Think there will be new faces in for Holden and Buch and maybe JT too. Clendening and Puempel? Heck toss in Nieves, he played wing before center. None of that fixes the lack of killer instinct on this team. And those 43 hits were like Charmin compared to last series.

Oscar Lindberg, arguably the most consistent center in the POs, barely plays last night (5:07 out of 81:00). The 4 line strategy is completely negated. Why?

    DoneG, Stalled, Hold-on were a combined -6.
McD, Shea, Mr Smith were a combined +3.

  54. There are lots of players to pick apart over these two games, but in my opinion, none loom larger than lundqvist.

I love Hank, as he is an all-time Ranger, but as he is the most important player on this team, and their true leader, it is up to him to come up with the saves.

A two goal lead with just over three minutes left should be all but in the bank. There were no obvious defensive breakdowns on those 2 tying goals, only deflections. Stop one of the two, and the game is over. I don’t care about the play of JT, HOLDEN, Girardi, Staal, Nash or anyone else. I don’t care about why Buch and Lindbergh played so little, despite Lindbergh in particular playing so well in the playoffs. The bottom line is two goal lead, only 3 minutes, no penalty kill situation, gotta get the job done.

What Hank did was akin to an open heart surgeon performing the surgery perfectly, then fatally nicking an artery upon suturing the patient closed. He blew it. He just BLEW it. And it’s not acceptable. Unlike the surgeon, Henrik gets another chance to redeem himself on Tuesday evening.

Let’s hope he doesn’t blow it again.

  55. Hank played his 8th playoff game this year and he stunk in this one. Some of the goals were not his fault, but he was fighting the puck all night. I think Ottawa has gotten into his head by shooting from all angles and throwing some off speed shots at him. I also think his focus and his brain are fried from all the odd man rushes and uncontested opportunities. It’s reminiscent of last year. I’m not trying to let Hank off the hook. Yesterday is on him and he should step up again from here on out.

That said, AV did not have a great game. Buch had 2 or 3 bad turnovers. Unaccaptable. But he needs to play so they can roll 4 lines. Bench him for a few shifts and then get him back out. Not sure why Lindberg got benched.

I’m not buying all this”We played well” stuff. The Rangers scored 5 goals against the trapping Sens, but they’ve done it at the expense of protecting the house.

    Must win Tuesday night.

And then for the tying goal, Pageau shoves Girardi out of the slot, leaving McD to cover him and Ryanโ€ฆ and Girardi stays put, floating, puck-watching!? Horrific defending from two good defenders. 63. James G Hank did crash to earth but he had a lot of help from his friends… The last 2 goals in regulation should never have happened and that’s not just on Hank. Bad icings, bad d netfront, failure to clear the zone, and zero coverage on Pageau by Mac and Girardi. Hank should have had 1st and arguably the GWG. 3rd was an unlucky bounce off the boards. Other 3 not on him, but he still gets the lions share of the blame (which I agree with) because he had 5 to work with. Tough game for him. Hopefully that “mental toughness” he is known for leads to a reboot in game 3.

  64. No doubt Hank is a Hall of Famer, and whose jersey will rightfully hang from the MSG rafters, even if doesn’t play another minute of hockey from now on.

But, he is the most important Ranger. He is the face of the franchise. Letting up 2 deflected goals in under 3 minutes at the end of a game squandering a 2 goal lead in the playoffs is not acceptable.

There are many other players and coach who have some explaining to do. But the fact is, Lundqvist was handed a two goal lead with 3 minutes and change left and he blew it.

This was not Crosby, Malkin, Toews, nor Ovechkin. This was not McDavid nor Matthews. This was not even Tavares. This was… Pageau.

Shame on the Rangers for not taking control of the last 5 minutes. Double shame on the franchise goalie for not stopping the puck.

    Pageau.

    Rhymes with Matteau, right?

At least Brodeur went on to win 3 Stanley Cups after Matteau, and played until he was 42 years old.
