  1. The only relevant question until game 5 is: Can our boys play another game like they have in 3 and 4?

When they put the effort in to finish checks (well, forecheck first of all,) stay in control defensively, give Hank a good view of the shot and play with snarl for 60 minutes – they are pretty much unstoppable.

  2. We saw this last year, except it was the Penguins playing hard, smart hockey. Rangers owning the Sens much like they were owned in ’16. Nice to see them playing this way

  3. Repost:
That’s two straight games where they dominated the Senators. Let’s hope they can keep it up on the road.

During the game I was trying to think of who I would pick for the 3 stars. I couldn’t pick just 3 because it seemed that everybody contributed.

I don’t think the Senators are going to try to rough up the Rangers in game 5 like Montreal tried to do. It’s not really their character. If you make them do something they’re not comfortable doing, then they’ll implode.

After seeing the all the cross checking, slashing, boarding stuff that didn’t get calls during the playoffs I got a chuckle with the Methot penalty against Zucc. It was really not much of anything. During the year people were saying the Rangers needed a sandpaper guy. I think Zucc tries to get under the skin of the opponents. He’s not as nasty as a guy like Marshand, but he can be a pain in the assen.

But I’m thrilled he’s working for MSG.
Heard last night that out of 200+ minutes played, Sense have had the lead for about 3 minutes!

  5. Doodie, hope Dad’s birthday was memorable.

Beezle- that’s the thing, it’s been so long since they’ve consistently played full 60 minutes games that you sometimes lose sight of just how good they can play when everyone buys in and does what they need to do.
They’ve played some solid hockey on the road, I would expect them to keep this up much as they did in game 5 in Montreal. This is where playoff experience and your best players getting it done comes into play.

  6. Noble, (I hate calling you that but I just can’t remember your old user name on RR lol) they’ve lead for a little over 4 minutes in this series. Boucher talked about how they “gave them the same medicine in Ottawa as they got last night”. I don’t buy it. The Rangers could easily be up 3 games to 1 right now and really have been the better team for the majority of all 4 games.
Last night the NBC knuckleheads kept talking in the third about how the Sens were sending a message and laying the groundwork for Saturday. Again- I don’t buy it. They came undone out of frustration. AV’s adjustments have paid off more than Boucher’s. Anderson has a 4.00 gaa in the last 3 games, Karlsson is banged up again and their top guys- Hoffman, Stone, Brassard – all been kept pretty silent. Not saying this series is over by any stretch of the imagination, but last night wasn’t a fluke. we aren’t facing the ’82 Islanders. This is a series now and it’s a winnable one if the Rangers are smart about it and keep the pedal to the metal.

  12. Just mediocre broadcasting. Rangers go up 4-0 and Turris scores and they started with the “well the Rangers can’t be happy about that. It seems to be getting known throughout the league that you shoot high on Lundqvist”
I think that’s been common knowledge since 2006…

  13. It’s like SN said the other day- amazing how the pendulum swings from losses to wins, but it’s true. You look at this series right now and other than the Sens’ comeback in game 2 (similar situation to game 2 in Montreal) you can see that the series has been mostly all Rangers. Just gotta hope the puck luck doesn’t start swinging back into Ottawa’s favor. They have to just keep doing what they’re doing. Could be 3-1 Rangers lead. Gotta play a smart game 5 just like they did in Montreal and keep this going.

  14. I turn the sound off on most American broadcasts, but the CBC guys were a delight, primarily because they were openly rooting for the Sens and thereby recognizing the superiority of the Rangers. Would not shut up about the speed and skill of the Blueshirts until it got to 4-0 and they unravelled a bit, misattributing a penalty, calling for Chris Neil… otherwise knew what they were talking about.

  16. Good morning, boneheads!
Men against boys, pretty much for 3 games in a row, minus that 4 min meltdown in game 2. And pretty even game 1. That’s why I can’t understand what Boucher was thinking last night trying to bully the Rangers. If Neil plays in Ottawa, they are done in 6. Different adjustments are necessary, I’m just not sure Ottawas has it in them. Anderson has been average, and Karlsson is playing hurt. NY’s series to lose.

  17. I’ve never thought much of Boucher as a coach. He wasn’t Ottawa’s first choice, and he got the job because he was relatively inexpensive. His trap can make a garbage team look passable, and that’s about it.

Norm, how do you watch the Canadian broadcasts?

  18. The one edge the Sens will have tomorrow is with the refs. Biggest home-team advantage in all sports, no different in hockey. The refs were firmly on the the home payroll last night, checks cut by an Ottawa bank Saturday. (Speaking figuratively, of course–it’s that they’re human and have 18,000 assistants that does it IMO.) PK will need to be strong, as it has been.

How do I know? I think it’s pretty obvious. Besides, I had a privilege of getting his text at 11:30 pm. Sometimes he forgets there is a 2 hour time difference. It’s ok, I love the guy too much to get upset. Also, he is on “do not disturb” mode during games 🙂

  26. Obviously Pee-air is not a member of Bonehead Nation because the Senators getting greasy at the end of the game was more frustration out of being dismantled in Game 3 and 4 then it is about setting up Game 5. If Ottawa needs that stuff to get pumped up for Saturday then the teams might as well pass on flying up to Kanata and out out in the Big Apple for the weekend and resume the series Tuesday night with the Rangers ahead three games to two.

As for Chris Neil playing on Saturday, I double dog dare Boucher to dress him. GuyBo will have to staple Neil to the bench after a period because Neil will be gassed trying to keep up with the Rangers.

In closing, I offer this musical repast in honor of the Rangers version of JG Pageau (by the way, unless JG stands for Jean-Guy don’t name your kids that).

I’m surprised boroweicki isn’t being called upon…he might be injured, but he makes some “questionable” hits.

My three favourite parts in the game were also the three times the crowd was the loudest…the extended cycle shift in the sens zone where the rangers dominated possession for what seemed like 4 minutes, smiff vs sloppy seconds and subsequent crowd reaction, and when turris decides to run a ranger at the end (and he runs glass lol) along with Lindberg not taking any crap and the crowd tanner chants after.

  33. James G, spot on about a fire stick but you don’t even need a fire stick, you can load a program called Kodi, they have it for all formats, windows, mac, android devices. Than either load a program addon called arewizard or spinztv and than through either of those two program addons you have a lot of choices to install a build and you will get anything you want, movies, tv shows, sports from all around the world. If you do this you should get a vpn to protect yourself because some of the addons it’s pirating. I’ve been using kodi for a year now, don’t need cable tv all you need is a internet access.

I now watch sports on a 60 inch plasma TV thanks to my brother in-law who broke the TV by forcing in a HDMI cable to one of the tv’s ports and broke the HDMI connector and the tv wouldn’t turn on so he bought a new TV. Months later they had friends who live on LI in the summer and florida in the winter who were coming back to Li in april and wanted to know if I wanted the TV, there friends were coming back north with a Uhaul truck and would transport the tv so of course I said yes. I’ve been involved with electronics since High school so I know how to fix things. When I got tv I realized he shorted out the main board. The tv is 3 years old but there was only one place that had a replacement and with shipping they wanted 200 dollars so I went on e-bay and found one board with shipping for 100, bought board, installed it and now watch the games on a bigger flat screen.

  42. That review was so good, I went to get a third cup of coffee in its honor. “This Rangers team is starting to resemble the early-season team that took apart opponents with their wheels” is so on point it put a hole in my screen.
As to Amironte, if he were my friend I’d feel differently I’m sure, and I get the sentiment and the crowd and all, but it feels almost exploitative to see the old guy out there shooting so many notes wide of the net. I mentioned last night that my wife, a former Flyers fan who stopped watching the game forty years ago, was laughing from across the room when she heard the mangled anthem from across the room: Who IS that? It was very small-town, I thought, which has its place, but when you have a guy like Daniel Rodriguez or–wait, is this New York City, is there anyone else around who can sing?–you have to wonder if they’d be better off having him lip-sync an anthem from when he could do it.

  43. The usual excellent game review from Carp and from Dave Maloney who is starting to look like Letterman. I agree that the silliness at the end was more about the Sens frustration than “setting a tone” for game 5. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This series is far from over. They need to keep up the speed game and the forecheck. Sens made a push in the third even without Karlson when the Rangers backed off and let them come out of the zone without any pressure. Hank had to make some big saves then to prevent it from getting very tense and quiet at MSG. It’s theirs to lose, but, from the inconsistency we have seen this year they are quite capable of winning or losing this in 6.

  46. CCCP, the funny thing about the Sloppy Seconds chant is that Avery didn’t even say that as a New York Ranger. And yet the NY fans still claim it as their own, because they claim Avery as their own.

The thing about Avery I think is he is a lot easier to enjoy and to even miss when he is gone than when he is around…

  47. Dear Mr Boucher,

We accept that we had to sacrifice game two on Saturday because of whatever our coach and our goalie did wrong.
What they did was wrong, and yes, the series is tied, but we think you’re crazy to make us write on this blog about the possibilities of Chris Neil suiting up, and JG Pageau having another 6 goals in games 5 and 6. You see us as you want to see us. In the simplest terms. The most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that our team does on occasion play a full 60 minutes…
    and gets some looks…..
and won’t turn into a pumpkin if they score on the PP…..
and can play against the trap….
and can probably win out in six games if they match your team’s desperation….
Does that answer your question about whether to suit up Chris Neil?
    Sincerely Yours,
    The Bonehead Club

I think I have the same lag issue from phone as CCCP does. I’ll grant the phone is a few years old, but it is an Anson Carter model! Remember not everyone has the latest greatest which is why (good) websites try not to measure functionality/performance on the most recent phone models.

Some of this, as SN points out, is probably ad related, but most of it is probably javascript overload from twitter as well as the numerous trackers the page loads in the background, supposedly asynchronously and cached (you can see from the source)
