Rangers Agree to Terms With Free Agent Forward Dawson Leedahl
by New York Rangers @NYRangers / NYRangers.com
May 8th, 2017
New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has agreed to terms with free agent forward Dawson Leedahl.
Leedahl, 21, skated in 71 regular season games with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League (WHL) this season, registering 35 goals and 54 assists for 89 points, along with a plus-45 rating and 121 penalty minutes. He established WHL career-highs in several categories in 2016-17, including games played, goals, assists, points, plus/minus rating, and penalty minutes. Leedahl was the only WHL player who registered at least 30 goals, 100 penalty minutes, and a plus-40 rating this season. He tied for sixth in the WHL in plus/minus rating and tied for 12th in the league in points in 2016-17. In addition, he ranked third on Regina in points, and he tied for third on the team in goals and assists this season.
The 6-1, 195-pounder has also skated in 19 playoff games with Regina thus far this year, registering 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points, along with a plus-11 rating and 28 penalty minutes. Leedahl has helped the Pats advance to the 2017 WHL Championship Series, where the Pats are currently facing the Seattle Thunderbirds. He has established WHL playoff career-highs in several categories thus far in 2017, including games played, goals, assists, points, plus/minus rating, and penalty minutes. Leedahl is tied for third in the WHL in goals, is tied for fifth in points, is tied for sixth in plus/minus rating, and is tied for second in penalty minutes thus far in the 2017 Playoffs. Leedahl has registered at least one point in 15 of 19 playoff games thus far this year.
The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native has skated in 297 career WHL games with Regina and the Everett Silvertips, registering 72 goals and 118 assists for 190 points, along with a plus-44 rating and 367 penalty minutes. In addition, Leedahl has helped his team advance to the playoffs in every season he has played in the WHL, and he has recorded 35 points (16 goals, 19 assists) in 42 career playoff contests. Leedahl also served as Everett’s captain during the 2015-16 season.
Leedahl’s offensive numbers took a huge jump but that has a lot to do with him playing on the same line as Anaheim 1st rounder Sam Steel (who had an “okay” year with 50 goals and 61 assists in 66 games). Leedahl is a teammate of Rangers draft pick Sergei Zborovskiy so I guess the Rangers saw a lot out of him.
From what little I have read, Leedahl is a high energy player who is not afraid to hit and fight (especially to defend Steel). A couple of Youtube videos show him in a couple of fights and a couple of big bombing hits.
At the very least, it adds more young fodder for Hartford and gives the Rangers a potential cheap fourth liner who bangs and hits.
i hate the feeling of elimination days. as much as i predict the worst all the time deep down i want nothing more then to win. potentially the next time i care about outcome of a sporting event could be opening weekend of nfl. no mlb or nba for me.
My fear is that having gotten behind in the series without the Sens playing a really good game and they maybe due for one. Or Anderson steals one. When you throw away two games you leave yourself very little margin for stuff just happening. With the way this series has gone I am wafting for the other shoe to drop all the time.
Contrary to Carps prediction of 3-3 after 6. I say they lay an egg tonight. My heart on the other hand says they will win game 6 proving once again that Carp is all seeing!
It looks like LoHud scrubbed all of the comments from the old RR site, which SUCKS for so many reasons, including that I can’t even find the original VinceA rant, i.e. the reason for the season…
Wow, that does suck, Rob. If memory serves, the comment came after the Oscar Lindberg/Ethan Werek trade and it basically said we should only draft and dress American players. Oh, and Canadian players are cool too…just no more soft Europansy scum.
1) I usually need a round off to decompress after the Rangers lose, but then I’m back in it to watch the rest of the playoffs. The only exceptions are when one of the series is ridiculously awesome, like 2009 Capitals-Penguins. As for nothing after hockey until NFL opening weekend, it’s an odd number year. even numbers alternate between summer olympics and the world cup, but those odd number years… just brutal. At least June will be exciting with expansion draft and then the entry draft. But 7/1 is shaping up to be a total dud. God help us for the rest of July and early August. I should be pretty damn well prepared for fantasy football, that’s for sure
2) No way do Fast and Lindberg total 2.2. Fast is already at 950k and has arb rights. Expect 1.5 minimum for him.
I would still be interested in games 7 tomorrow even if we’re out.
After that mostly would watch west. If there was a more interesting team like Tampa in there I’d watch the east but can’t see watching an Ottawa Pitt/Wash series for a few games at least.
I would hope for the Pacific winner to win the cup if we’re out.
Funny how many peripatetic references to a Staal buy-out when, according to some around here, he would be a valuable second pair for any team in the League. 🙂
What I meant is the Sens bring the boring, clogging, patient defensive game. The Rangers sometimes do the lazy, stretch pass, overpass, glide around the outside.
Might not be any chance to keep Lindberg…. who, by the way, sucked according to most until he scored a couple of goals.
coos, Staal is going to be on the opening night roster. But if he was on either of the other two still-alive East teams he’d be top four. And if he isn’t here next year, he will be top four somewhere. I’m not saying he’s great. I’m saying pretty much every team other than Nashville has the same problems. I’d still make Staal a third-pair guy here and make Skjei the 2LD. Or the 1RD.
did you see some of the clowns Pittsburgh tosses out there each night — especially last night?
BIG GAME TONIGHT!!! ALL GAMES going to overtime …Lets follow the trend . Washington and Oilers came out and destroyed their teams ….WE WILL DO THE SAME!!!
RAAAAAAAAAANGERS LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO!!!!
BOOM , another GOAL!!!! RANGERS will take it to these flukey Firetrucks …Rangers are playing AWESOME , Lets keep it up tonight!!
Rangers score 7 tonight …book it!!
Man. Miss LW3H around here. That guy was off the charts funny. Really is a shame that we’ve lost him and so many other great commenters over the years.
Whaa?? huh …ANOTHER GOAL!!?? BOOM!!! The RANGERS really taking it to these guys!! Ottawa has NO chance , sorry . Not even a hope in holey water hell folks.
LOL who remembers in 2012 when we played the Senators and their fans would count down until 11:11 and cheer “Alfie Alfie Alfie”…. but when we played Washington in the next round… our fans counted down until 8 minutes and chant “Ovie sucks…ovie sucks…” LOL Ah….. memories….
I for one have faith in BGG delivering on his promise of glorious victory over pretend Romans. 3-1 final score and there shall be no Chinese Fireplace tonight. Poor St. Pete may have to go to the dogs tonight but not the rest of us!
Why put a Roman Soldier on your symbol when you’re a Senator? Might as well just put Chris Neal’s face on jersey before they retire his number and build his bronze statue.
Lehtenen would be a great fit in net for Philadelphia. Inconsistent, the fans can hype him between August until around Christmas, and Milbury can call him a Europansy when they play Pittsburgh and get lit up on NBC…

You know what kind of game the Sens are going to bring. The Rangers? 100 games later, I still don’t know.
I hope its not a 1-0 game. Those are too nerve wracking. another 4-1 laugher would be great.
