Stupid Penguins.

Carp’s Penguins are just one win away from repeating as Stanley Cup Champions. If only the ping pong balls in 2005 had gone differently, but then again, our franchise wasn’t bankrupt, in peril of moving, and just purchased by one of the game’s most legendary players (and crybabies) to help him recoup millions in unpaid salary.

You might say it was…RIGGED.

But probably not.

  1. It a shame that a supremely talented player like Sid is such an A-hole. I’d like to just marvel at his skill like watching Michael Jordan even if you are not a Bulls fan. But then he makes another D..k move like the water bottle toss or the mugging of Subban -and you wind up hating him again. The fact that he clearly has his own set of rules doesn’t enhance the experience. He takes a lot of joy out of watching the game.

  2. Part of me wants this to end in game 6 so we can all get over it and get started with the off-season where everyone gets to take part, the other part thinks Ice Chickens suck and wants Nashville to win!

  3. Carp’s Pens…lol. Carp can’t wait to post a million pics of hagelin with the cup and then claim he’s just doing it because people like hagelin. Lol.

Oh, and the 2005 draft was definitely rigged. And if you look real close, Bettman actually looks like a penguin.

  4. Both back-to-back cup runs in 08 and 09 MalKING was their best player during the regular season and postseason both years for which he got rewarded by winnung playoff MVP the year they won first cup. Last year Crosby got MVP simply by being Crosby.

  5. Hmmm… I can picture Bettman dressed up and waddling around, kind of like Burgess Merideth in the old “Bettman” series. Oh, did I say, “Bettman”? I meant “Batman”. Waa Waa Waa!!

  6. Pretty disgraceful how Crosby gets to repeatedly pound Subban’s head into the ice while the Ref is right there watching and he doesn’t make a call until Subban uses a headlock to protect himself. The bias to Crosby is sickening. He is a great player, but Bettman has mandated that he is the face of the NHL and the league will do whatever it can to insure they play until the end and wind up with the cup. Just look at the NBC regular season and playoff schedule, the league arranges games to make sure they are always in prime time, which resulted in them getting extra time off between games/series while others had a quicker turn around between series or games.

  8. Seriously though, a few weeks back my in-laws were taking a tour of Rome and Brock Nelson happened to be in their group. They pretty much spent the entire day with him and said he was a great guy.

I hope this doesn’t affect anybody’s irrational hate for him, though. Because screw that guy.

  10. NHL didn’t have to do anything to fix it for Pens in the Mario draft. Pens did the smart thing while Devils did the right thing. No ping pong balls, nothing.

Would youse hate My Little Sid if youse had won the lottery in ’05?

Let me tell you about the Conn Smythe. Fifteen voters are selected. That’s it. Two writers get to pick the 15. So it is usually a lot of good ol boys — Kevin Allen from USA Today and a lot of Canadians and maybe a couple from the competing teams’ media. So you tell me that Sid’s not winning it.

Back in ’94 me and a few other NY writers had to go around and tell the voters that Messier was NOT the Conn Smythe winner. … I even told a few that if they didn’t like Leetch, which was crazy, that Richter should be ahead of Messier.

  11. Enjoyed your factual narrative in the intro about Mario. I hate that the media/nhl BS storyline is that Mario ‘saved’ the Penguins franchise. Reality was…. he got the opportunity to take equity in place of his deferred salary or he could have stood in line with other debtors in bankruptcy court. He didn’t have a choice if he ever wanted to recoup any of that money. So he got ownership but no doubt he would have taken cash if he could have.

  12. I don’t want to harp on Sid’s acting like a jerk, but, I will. I compare him to Lebron who also reached the pinnacle of his game at a very young age, but, became a magnet for criticism and one of the most hated figure is sports after his “taking his talents to South Florida” fiasco. He has worked to rebuild his image through charitable work and the move back to Cleveland. It may only be PR bulls..t, but, he now has the underdog role and at least a portion of the public is pulling for him. Meanwhile Sid doubles down on being an A-hole. While his skills are still marvelous he has not grown at all as a a person from the whiny kid he was when he came into the league. And the way he is showcased as the face of the sport only enables his behavior.

  13. The team lacked veteran present big time. Why not Jags? Bet Wicky and you Carp are gonna love watching him in Rangers uniform. Especially you, Carp…since you didn’t get a chance to cover him the first time he was here 😉

(Not trying to piss you off, Carp.)

  14. When he has been assigned as a commissioner for the NHL, his former NBA colleagues were worrying that Bettman would not have enough Hockey experience for the job.

Orlando Magic Pat Williams once joked: “I gave Gary a Hockey puck once, and he spent the rest of the day trying to open it!”

  15. Brooks wrote today that the Rangers have asked about McKinnon. My question to you is this. If the Rangers could trade for Duchene, and the cost would be Miller, Zibanijad and a one. Or they could trade for Mckinnon, and the cost would be, Miller, Zibanijad, Kreider and a one. Would you pay the extra price for McKinnon?

For a guy that scored, what, about 15 goals this past season. I don’t care if he’s still really young. That trade would be nuts

  17. Çertain players with whom we (and I) have been and are enamored are a factor half the time, some of them 1/4 of the time. I think we should move forward with our eyes wide open and at least consider moving some ‘cherished’ pieces for the right deal.

  18. The trades were not the point. The point was, would you pay more for Mackinnon? I wouldn’t do either of those trades. Just an example for my question.

  19. I get it Bdl but I’m not at all that impressed with McKinnon. Still Stepan, and Zucc if possible, are the players that needs to be moved.

  20. Mack inn on wants out of Colorado. It’s obvious. The locker room cancer rumors are probably bc he hates losing and his running mates celebrate individual achievements the same night they are eliminated from playoff contention.

Something centered around Kreider. With what mackinnom is on that team, a power forward, him and Kreider are pretty similar. Kreider and duchene might be a dynamic duo, while mackinnon doesn’t mesh wit duchene for a bunch of reasons.

Mackinnon is a lot less far fetched then most might think

  21. It could be Uncle Larry getting the rumor machine revved up because he has nothing else to write about. Then, again, there could be something to it. I would think that if the Rangers trade for Trouba or Barrie that either Girardi or Staal go the other way along with somebody else. Otherwise, it doesn’t work.
