  1. Philosophically, am I wrong that make up calls are okay when the original call is so blatantly wrong? Preds should be winning 1-0 but they’re not

  2. Had to listen in car to some hick station from pennsyltucky on way home. So Preds were robbed of first goal again. Shocking. Shame tv can’t take the Kenny feed..tired of Doc Penguin and his side kicks

that doesn’t matter. No chance that klein or holden get picked by vegas and even if they did so what.

only matters if we trade for a dman before the expansion and that isn’t likely.

  5. Guess if you factor in final placement based upon playoff results:
    Pits
    Preds
    Sens
    Ducks
    Craps
    Blues
    Rangers
    Oilers
    .
Yeah – we finished 7th!!! Top 25% of the whole league. Why wouldnt fans be happy with being 7th?!?

  6. Good morning Boneheads! I didn’t see the whole game. After the disallowed goal I went to bed. Wasn’t feeling well, besides we all knew the outcome! Another glorious year for the NHL poster boy and is penguin buddies. Well I do not suffer alone for what could have been! Sadly just another year of NYR disappointment! Thank you Mr. Sather for all you have done for our beloved Rangers!

  7. The Stanley Cup is the hardest trophy to win in professional sports and the Pens just won it for the second year in a row, with a team I would not consider to be all that exceptional. Pretty impressive when you think about it that way.

As Rangers fans I think we know how hard these series can be and how much has to go right to win them.

  8. Hard to stomach watching the officiating play such a crucial role in the outcome (besides Murray I mean… easily could have been 4-2 or 5-2 Preds).

Well, I guess they slept well in Montreal last night!

On to the white knuckle summer for Rangers fans – will we see the pace of the sand slipping out of Lundqvist’s hourglass quicken? or will we get a reboot?

Smh welp, I guess we should start discussing Raanta trade rumors and trade scenarios for the next four months. Glad Hagelin has won a Cuo every year he hasn’t been a Ranger btw

  11. Rangers are going to have to sign Puempel Fast or Lindberg over the next week or so to not be in violation of the expansion draft rules.
It seems like they’d rather move Raanta than lose him for nothing and at least for now sign Fast (injured) and hang on to Staal and Girardi to protect them and perhaps allow Vegas to only be able to select a Holden or Klein.

Raanta rumors invole Calgary and Winnipeg. That better mean Hamilton or Trouba involvement with other Rangers getting packages obviously

  12. Conn Smythe is gonna get renamed “Little Sid” from what I hear. And I don’t just mean the trophy, the league is going to go carve it on the headstone which will now read
    “Constantine ‘little Sid’ Smythe”

  13. Cal Foote please. And no, not because they have the need right now for a mobile righty defenseman but because they’re not going to get any easier to find over the next few years either.

  14. Yeah…tell that to Mike Johnston and Michel Therrien who had two of the best players in the game and won nothing…. Sullivan comes in and wins with half AHL roster…TWICE!

  15. But you say the players are more important. Which can be true, sure… but those two comically bad coaches had the best players in the game arguably at their prime and couldn’t win.

  16. Rangers had Gaborik, **Lundqvist**, Nash, Richards, St. Louis, mister clutch Drury, Gomez with multiple cups, Dany G and Stawhl in prime… JAGR! Straka, Nylander… those are all great to very good players! …and?

    and? 🙂

  18. I didn’t say coaching was a nonfactor. But it’s far from the most important factor. Babcock couldn’t do anything with those latter Detroit teams. Quenneville couldn’t win until he had Toews, Kane, Keith, and Hossa. An average coach can win a Cup with a great roster, but an average roster can’t win a Cup no matter who the coach is.

  19. Coache’s voice gets stale. That could be the reason why great teams don’t win anymore.

Quenneville won the first cup in 09 and then couldn’t win anything until 13 when they got Michal Rozsival… after that 2 cups in 3 years… so not sure how Kane and Toews were the reason Chicago won when it is clear as day that it was Rozsival who got them over the top 🙂

  20. A coach has to have guts. Guts enough to bench a Stanley cup winning goalie, and replace him with a rookie. Guts enough to do the same type of thing in the ECF. Coaches mattter. Coaches get you the matchup you are 👀 by for.

  21. So I guess we’re not winning a cup for a while, average coach average team. One thing to consider all those teams had a goalie making big stops at the biggest of times. New York Rangers not so much!

and who is playing on Pens’ first pair? Dumoulin? Cole? Daley ? According to Carp, the current version of Staawlh is much better than those top dman on the Pens. So…

  23. Don’t forget that Clarkson is a candidate for LTIR because of his lower back injury. Vegas would take on the salary, but can erase the cap hit. Columbus could as well, but their ownership might not want to foot the $5.25 million bill for three more years.

  24. I still buy out staal. It will take a lot longer to get rid of his contract without the buy out. Girardi is movable a lot sooner.

I also think Girardi is more valuable to this team.

  25. I honestly do not get that logic. They would not have beat the Pens, so it doesn’t matter that AV screwed up the Sens series. Also, some forget around here, that the Rangers beat the Pens in two of the last three times they have met in the playoffs. Oh and the last team to beat the Pens in the playoffs, the Rangers.

  26. This team under this coach has been making the same mistakes without correcting them for the past two years…and what does the management do? They give the coach contract extension. Only in New York.

  27. I don’t recall Sullivan being the most loved of the coaching staff… but now he’s a god? Hmm… Staal has trade value, G does not. You would buy out G and get Staal to waive NMC, ideal world of course. And then there’s that problem child at #1C who is about to get a NMC kicking in, right?

  28. Not being a wise guy, but if the Boneheads who want AV fired were given the ability to do so who would you want as the new coach? The last thing I want to see is another retread get retirement money from Jimmy Dolan.

Personally, I was never a big fan of AV’s and probably would have kept Torts – player mutiny or not. Unlike when Mark Messier got Roger Neilson fired, none of the anti-Torts players had the cache of Messier. I think AV needs to bring in the equivalent of Benoit Allaire to run the PP and PK. I am just not sure who those coaches would be. Adam Oates? Craig Ramsay? I am not sure if there are any younger assistants who are available and fit that bill.

  29. I don’t see a buyout being a humiliation to any player. They sign the LT contract knowing it might end that way and they are guaranteed most of the money. Not like the NFL where they can cut you loose at any time and you have squat going forward. Look at Drury. They bough him out and he came back to the organization and is apparently a rising management star. It’s not personal, it’s just business. They always liked Danny. They will take care of him. He’s going to Vegas-but not to learn the casino business.

  30. I would have thought you guys would know better. I know it’s just for something to talk about, but why does it have to be all or nothing with you guys? Why is it the coach stinks and the players are fine or the players stink and the coach is fine? I would imagine the truth is somewhere in between. It’s got to be a little of both. The chemistry has to be exactly right. A better coach may be able to compensate for lesser players and vice-versa. Can’t it be 68% coaching and 32% players or the other way around?

  31. Makes zero sense not to ask. If one obliges Vegas not taking that contract and you could do 8 skaters 1 goalie rather then 7-3-1 format thus keeping extra body of grabner Lindberg fast

The 8-1 would still be 7 forwards since mcd has to be protected. For the most part that’s for teams with an excess of dmen that they don’t want to lose. 7-3-1 is the way to go for the Rangers. Girardi and Staal have no effect there since Klein and Holden either would not be picked or so what if they did.

It would only matter if we traded for a stud dman before expansion draft.

It’s the coach, it’s the players that wear the “A”, it’s the lack of bite in the top 6 forwards, it’s the cap hit of some players…plenty to go around.

  34. I’d like to address all this kerfuffle of Shakespeare-in-the-Park making Julius Caesar look like Donald Trump. (Having United Airlines and Bank of America pull sponsorship is not exactly going to ruin the reputation of the Public Theater.) In my opinion it’s just bad casting.

Trump shouldn’t be Caesar, he should be Cassius (in spite of the ‘lean and hungry look’ bit).
Mike Pence should be Brutus (in spite of the ‘noblest Roman of them all’ bit).
James Comey as Antony (Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war).
Robert Mueller as Octavius and finally,
the Presidency itself as Julius Caesar.

Trump as the blustering, alzheimeric Lear
(I will have such revenges on you both,
That all the world shall—I will do such things,—
What they are, yet I know not: but they shall be
    The terrors of the earth.)
Of course the Don, Jr. and Eric as Regan and Goneril. I’d just like to see Trump try to get his stuff back after all this is done.
Which makes Baron into Cordelia (poor Cordelia)
And remember, he (Lear) had to be rescued by the French.

  38. Hamlet, no not the title character. Here we have him cast as a lesser character – Polonius. Jared Kushner is the rather ineffectual Hamlet that causes the ‘accidental’ death of Polonius. Which of course, makes Ivanka (Get thee to a nunnery), Ophelia.

  39. How about the Scottish play. I see Trump as Banquo (mostly because Banquo’s best is accusatory). Baron must become Fleance then. Of course, the three hags are Spicer, Conway, and Priebus making predictions that are not quite what they seem.

  40. Apparently MAF has waived his NMC and is being made available for trade or expansion draft. Its up to McPhee now, do they take MAF and load up with a couple of younger goalies like Subban/Korpisalo to back him up, or do they go with an experienced back-up who can step in and carry the load, like Aauntie?

  41. Disagree Admiral. While Fleury is a “bargain” being what #1 goalies go for nowadays, money-wise, he still makes a fair chunk of change for a few more years. If a team thinks that Raanta is the real deal, a la Talbot, I think they’re more inclined to pay to get in on the ground floor, contract-wise. If more than one team thinks Raanta gives them a #1 Goaltender for a $1M cap hit, he becomes very appealing.

Though having said that – if a trade did happen, I think a middle R2 is an absolute coup, seeing what Talbot’s larger sample size netted us. We’re probably looking at an R3 if things stay sane.

Then – Gorton has a decision – is that R3 that we’re getting for Raanta more valuable to us than Lindberg or Fast? While I think Vegas will have all the goalies they need in Fleury, Grubauer, and Malcolm Subban starting in the AHL…Raanta is pretty attractive and I think they grab him as an asset at the very least. If he’s not there, we lose Lindberg or Fast (barring one of those “Take this mid-rounder and help yourself to Kevin Klein” deals).

So…do we hang onto Raanta only to lose him for free as to not lose Lindberg, Fast, or Grabner? Or is an extra R2 or R3 pick worth rolling the dice and losing a decent depth forward?

  44. I agree there BDL. I like Raanta, but Allaire is some sort of goalie whisperer. I feel like any backup we get is someone that he has taken a look at and judged as a player he can work with. I have full confidence that whoever is our backup next season, be it a cheap pickup or one of the kids, will do well under him.

We’re two seasons away from Shestyorkin making his way over – we’ll either be going shopping for a cheapie who comes with the Allaire nod, or looking at Halverson or Skapski.

  45. Here’s my question, if you can move kreider in a deal to get a very very good centre or D man (kreider as centrepiece or part of big “package”), would you do it?

We are pretty deep on wing, but I put kreider as one of our 2 best wingers. I’m counting miller as the other.

That being said there are some pretty damn good younger wingers out there that could be had to replace him i.e. Landeskog, e Kane etc

I like kreider a lot but I’d probably do it.
