Great value the first 2 years; rib/back injury hampered him this year

I am tired of seeing Kreider jumping out of a pool. I want to see him jumping out of quick sand, because that’s where this team is headed if they don’t upgrade the Center position!
Thanks Kevin Klein. He gave us a lot more than we thought we’d get for a few seasons. A good, proud guy who didn’t want to hang on as a press box warmer. Maybe one day we’ll see him back in the organization.
I still make that MDZ for Klein trade any day of the week. Though – imagine if we traded Del Zotto before his value went off a cliff?
I really wish we had gotten Klein a few seasons earlier. True warrior. He’d be in Girardi territory had he played here longer. Thanks for doing the Naslund.
Will always remember Klein losing a piece of his ear and coming back to score the game winner. That’s what makes hockey players different- and crazier.
You wouldnt recover from that either Eric. Hats off to Klein. He was a good Ranger and I for one appreciate everything he did here. Another guy I wish could have tasted a championship in Blue. Here’s to ya, Kleiner!
Now that Klein’s Swixit is official – can Gorton safely acquire a decent 2/3 center on the cheap? I mean, you know they all KNEW Klein was walking, but there was probably always that kernel of a chance he didn’t.
Gorton, “Joe we are interesred in M. Duchene what will it take” Sakic, “Ok Kreider, Skjei, Day, Miller, Buchnevich, a #1 and # 2 in 2018 should get it done!
if Staal has a limited NTC after this season as spottrac says then it shouldn’t be that hard to trade Staal after this season while eating a much smaller amt than a buyout would involve
This will never happen I know, but would it not be delicious if Vegas………who payed an absurd amount of $ to these narrow-minded owners to get in the league, tendered a maximum offer sheet to Leon Draisaitl?
Parayko is the better target. Draisatl’s numbers away from McDavid are pretty poor. Only 3 goals and 12 assists in just over 500 minutes of 5 v 5 without McDavid. Only 47 SOG. His GF% drops from 59.4 with McDavid to only 44.7 without.
Thank you, Mr. Klein!
Prayko filed for arbitration. Can’t sign him to OS. Was going to talk about it this morning, but the work got on the way 🙂
That, and about the second buyout window. Which NY will not use this year.
Carp, if GMGM had any onions, they would have done a lot better in the expansion draft. They’re still doing the good ole boys club thing of not hurting your team too much.
There were a few situations during expansion where Vegas, IMHO, took a lesser package to stay away from particular players than just going for the player. So I don’t think McPhee would use up all that good will he just painstakingly garnered so soon.
AND I agree that Draisatl is kind of an unknown quantity when not playing with McDavid. If he’s demanding $9M a year, if I’m Peter Chiarelli, I’m trading his rights for a friggin bounty.
Honestly, I think he’s probably the most overrated GM in the league. Yzerman is a close second, simply because everyone thinks he’s god when he has his fair share of head scratching moves.
I don’t think I heard the name Draisatl more than a handful of times before the post season. He’s in the right place at the right time that’s for sure. If he gets one of those huge contracts because McDavid got his they’ll have their work cut out for them ala Chicago
Chiarelli’s a weird one. He wins a Cup with Boston, but trades Seguin for a whole lot of nada. Even stranger in Edmonton, with the Hall trade. Personally I think that team is still a tire fire without them absolutely lucking into McDavid. He stole Cam Talbot from us, but in the same draft gave up a first rounder for Griffin Reinhart.
Salvaging Jonathan Drouin’s value was remarkable work from Yzerman. But that Girardi deal…the Cally contract, Killorn contract…yeah he’s a hit-or-miss guy too.
I do find it interesting that Tavares..Oh I’m sorry- John “I’ll never leave the Islanders despite having no plan, no supporting cast and no arena” Tavares hasn’t been locked up to his billion schmillion dollar extension yet.
Edmonton without McDavid is pretty much no different than t Chicago without Kane, Pittsburgh without Crosby or Washington without Ovechkin the first few years those players began their careers. Takes a while to build a supporting cast. They’re on the right track.
Chiarelli won that Cup with a ton of Gorton’s work. Seguin deal, woof. I still don’t think he got enough for Hall. We’ll see on Eberle. The McDavid contract is absurd for a guy under team control. … or for anybody.
The Oilers are one of the reasons why I think a team should be excluded from receiving a first round lottery pick after, say, 5 years of staying there.
Best part Carp, the fools on NHL radio discuss that contract and how even though he took “less” than 13.25 million he’s still set for life. As if one year of that contract wouldn’t have anyone set for life. It’s a joke.
my point is Naslund played well here so I don’t get the honorable thing. To me the honorable thing would be if his game had really fallen off. Some think it did. i don’t plus it was 1 year left.
I am not saying he was as good as his best days but he was good enough.
How can you forget, Booby? They only showed the video clips of his 5 goal game against us 82,000 times when he was first signed here. He was supposedly a savior. That is until ol’ Musky broke free from the car seat….
Torts: “That’s &%&#*&$ Right I got the *&#$ out of that *#($*# car seat! Glad this (*#*$#$( guy can #(#($*#%^ score (*%*#%& 40 goals but lets (*%(#$& see him block some (%(#&(#&$ shots!
Carp, if therre ever was a player who would have been offer sheeted, it is McDavid. So locking him up for 12.5 was worth it, especially when pretty much every team with enough cap space would have tried to sign him to more.
I remember when we offer sheeted Sakic with significant front loading since the Avs were cash crunched. Their ownership was in the movie business and some hit movie allowed them to match. They had 10 days to match which they took all of. When they matched they faxed over a fist with one finger extended.
Yup, Alex. I think someone posted that pic on the blog a few years back.
What I meant to say is that there was a reason they floated 13.25. Comes to $106M. In order for any other team to offer anything similar it would have to be over 7 years, which is $15.14M, max allowed by CBA this year would be $15M. The league would’ve rejected the offer sheet.
actually it was toward Doodie since he and I went back and forth a couple of weeks back. I certainly realize others agree with him. In that instance I don’t.
Fwiw the honourable naslund thing I was referencing had nothing to do with how good or bad posters perceived his time here (I thought he was good) and was solely referencing to his retirement and the way it did not hurt the rangers cap at all.
Which, I think, was also the way booby intended his naslund reference post which in turn led to my initial post to you referencing naslund.
Nice article, Carp. He was a big surprise when he was healthy. And I’m sure he had his own reasons to retire, but he did them a huge favor. There is nothing they could’ve done with this $2.9M short of placing him on LTIR.
I think some occasional snarky comments about the blog don’t help. We should be grateful he’s been maintaining this place for so long so that we don’t lose our mind without a place to talk. I know firsthand how busy he is at home, and how helpful and committed he is when it comes to his family.
I’ve always believed that Ovechkin was aiming for Klein at the end of that game meaning regular season game. To me, it speaks to what a dirtbag Ovechkin is. He didn’t dump it in. He shot the puck at Klein. Obviously, Klein’s back issues were the subsequent problem, but the Rangers could have used Klein that spring who seemed to be day to day for several weeks and returned as a shell of his former self. I think we all imagined he’d be fine by the following season, but he was never really the same.
Klein retiring at 32 show what a toll the game takes on the players’ bodies. Hopefully he heals and has a healthy life from here on. Also shows you what Shatty may have left on the table. He’ll be 32 when his contract expires. KK is a very honorable person to not come back for the money when he decided he couldn’t perform at his previous level. I might be tempted to just show up for $3.2 million.
Kreider jumped from deeper water.
In Philly for a wedding. You know how Phillybhas an inferiority complex with NY. Well they should. Inferior in every way possible. What a dump.
Poor bastard I work with unfortunately named Will has taken an unmerciful verbal barrage since that commercial appeared. Mostly by me, I think it pisses him off but yet I still get quite a kick out of saying Bye, Will every time he walks away.
On the PK, it’s useless to have DMen out there who can’t defend. May as well put all speed guys out there and at least put a scare into the opposition.
The best was during the ’14 SCF, which was the year Kreider jumped out the pool (yes, I said, “out the pool”), Ken Campbell of THN was asking him on the off-day in LA about jumping out the pool, and Kreider was just messing with him, telling him he just jumped backward into the pool and they recorded it in reverse, then that it was photoshopped, etc. Went on and on until Campbell left him alone.
Just finished a review of a book on game theory wherein the Professor/ author states that we want and need challenges to face and obstacles to overcome and since we don’t get enough of this like our ancestors did from daily life, we need artificial trials. Sports bring meaning to life.
It wouldn’t surprise me, Carp. Classy= Ovechkin’s mentality. He’s the worst kind of player in my opinion. He’s got all the talent in the world but just lacks the commitment and determination to be the best. So he’d rather whine, make excuses, hurt people or go invisible in big spots. At the end of the day he’ll collect his millions and probably go play in the KHL for the last year or two of his career.
Btw Carp have you seen Clint Eastwoods movie Trouble With the Curve? It was enjoyable I think you’d like it. It’s a baseball movie but it’s kind of an anti chart boy flick.
I think I found him just now on Tweeter and Facebook. Molina is his last name, right?
Sent him this msg on both: “hey! weird question for you… are you the Miami Pimp from the Rangers Report blog?”… if it’s not him, I hope he won’t report me thinking that I’m looking for a real pimp or something lol

I don’t know why, but Hainsey crossed my mind earlier, too. I think you’re right, Tom. Injured him, too. Accidentally.
I think in all my stories about shutouts from now on, it’s going to be, as the Captain suggested, Hurricanes 3, Rangers Ugotz.

assuming they don’t make a change to roster we still have 3 letter wearers
who is next in line for a letter with an injury to one of the letter wearers
or do they add 1 or 2 and rotate
i’m guessing one of 4 in no order although to me the front runner would be zucc
if nash was out would be a forward.
