Rangers vs. Sabres… It’s Go Time!!

Game 75? Sure let’s go with that.

Thursday’s loss to the Flyers, aside from the physical toll, was just the kind of game you want to see from them for the rest of the season.  They (mostly) tried hard, but still managed to lose in regulation.  I think they have a good chance of slipping behind the Tire Fires and the Oilers if they keep up the losing, but all of the teams behind them in the standings that were within reach are doing such a good job tanking that it will be difficult to fall any lower.

Speaking of teams that were not within reach, we are brought to Buffalo for tonight’s game. Boy, they are a bad team.  This is going to be a painful game to watch. It will take quite a bit for us to lose tonight.  Fortunately, Next week brings a couple of games against the Capitals and then the Lightning, so we should be able to get back to losing games and helping that draft position.

HAV at it.

  1. That was a funny clip of AV. Don’t see him laugh like that very often. And for the millionth time this season, a Rangers goalie keeps them in a game. Thinking they won’t tank this one now…

  2. from last thread

    Shatty vs Stepan

my vote. none of the above. or neither to be more correct gramatically

we did a good deal in getting rid of a burdensome cap hit and wasted the cap on Shatty.

well hopefully Andersson is the real deal.

  3. Just tuned in and I like what I see. But what a mess that Buffalo franchise is. They’re like Edmonton 2.0. How many more stars do they need to make the post season??

  4. So uh what’s buffalo up to? The ranger just tore it down and are still a more competitive team. Get the feeling eichel doesn’t want to be there and it’s making for a cancerous ungrowable team. Classic example of a guy that should be moved to get a boatload of quality quantity now instead of losing with him until your begin facing holdouts and deadlines. Right now they could get a franchise altering return and they need it.

I’m more interested in karlsson and seguin. It’s funny I always had a feeling those two guys might be the guys who’d hold out for ny, but always felt it was so far down the line. Well, now it’s year away and they are both unsigned and the rangers are rebuilding and have the money to sign them. Stars aligning?

  5. 5-0 and everything still sucks. This place is one of a kind. They’re winning wrong, they’re tanking wrong, they’re coaching wrong… wrong, wrong, suck, wrong, badsuck, suckwrong.

  6. Ugh. I’m at The game watching Florida dissolve their own playoff chances when I could’ve been at home watching this nutty Ranger game.
At least I’m going to the Arizona locker room after this. Maybe Stepan and Raanta can cheer me up….

  7. Jeez. How do they give up 44 shots to Buffalo. Insanity. Georgi looking great. As for the “offensive explosion” Buffalo is putrid on defense and they have a serious problem in net. What a waste.

  8. Beezle, people have said that at some point about every single goalie that’s ever backed Hank up (except maybe Vally). I love what I see from Georgi so far, but let’s not forget these are essentially meaningless games. Will be great to see him hopefully shine next year when they are competing for a playoff spot. Then you can talk about him dethroning Hank…

  9. Meaningless games? Only to some. They are very meaningful to many guys on the roster, and those guys are playing like it. Others (Zucc), are playing like they don’t care.

  10. No one with any brains has said that and meant it before Sittoo and I still think we are two seasons away from hank not being the clear #1 barring injury or complete meltdown on his part. I’d love to trade him if we could tho, then the real tanking could begin!!

C’mon, Sittoo. You know better. You’re not going to let anyone talk about dethroning Hank next season, either. : )

  12. I was in Newark watching the Devils beat the Del Boca Rangers. They needed to get McD because they only played 5 D tonight. Sustr got 6 minutes and none after the middle of the second. Colburn did play much either. Gorton should have held out for more. Boy George must have been special tonight, but 40+ shots by a bad team is in excusable. Shame he didn’t get the SO.

  13. Re shatty and stepan….

Not a fan of either by a long shot, but I take shattenkirk any day and everyday over stepan (even though stepan plays the more important Nhl position)

  14. Pete, I heard ad nauseam (and still do) that Cam and Antti were both better than Hank. Now it’s Georgi who has played (very well) in exactly 9 games…
Eddie, you’re absolutely right that I won’t be talking about Hank’s throne until he decides it’s time to abdicate which should be right around the time the young Russians are ready to ascend. Now that might be a heckuva battle!

  15. Bdl, these are indeed meaningful games for guys like Georgi and Pionk who are trying to make good impressions. Doesn’t alter the fact that they are meaningless in the grand scheme of things and there is far less pressure on the players when they are not fighting to get in the playoffs. Easier to play well when you’re not gripping the stick too tight or worried about making a mistake that could cost the team crucial points.
