Staal-Pionk

Skjei-McQuaid

  9. This PK really sucks and that is on the coaching staff. Everyone’s laying down on the ice and can’t retrieve pucks even when the Isles fan on a shot. The last two games they have given up goals on breakaways and PPs. They are making less adjustments than AV did.

  14. Why are Quinn and Ruff being given a free pass because the “defensive is a dumpster fire?”

This is the “time that Ruff becomes important and Quinn needs to rely on Ruff.”

What has Ruff done in his Rangers tenure to improve the defense or defensive structure?

  15. SN, you hit the nail. Structure and system. We got a coach that may become successful in the future or may be a total failure. Right now, his coaching leaves a lot to be desired and he shouldn’t be given a free pass because the D is “trash.”

  16. TYM…Just because they are rebuilding doesn’t mean we have to be giddy about it. Poor decisions 5 years running lead them to this rebuild. What makes you confident they know what the are doing now? Certainly not the prospect cupboard.

  17. The management has some of the fanbase brainwashed. The rebuild isn’t an excuse for every team shortcoming. I don’t mind the rebuild if we are seeing some improvement.

  18. Papa, hit the nail. Why such confidence in the outcome of the rebuild? I am not giving up on Quinn because of the roster’s lack of talent. But why such confidence in Ruff and his role in the rebuild? What has Ruff done besides get to a Stanley Cup Final 20 years ago?

  19. I really dont mind going w youth but for the love of God when you sign or trade for established players please target players who have demonstrated a tendency to engage physically and not fluffers…i.e.Zbad..Hayes a college signing gets a pass in the early years but now im.not sold on him performing at the level he has this UFA season over the next say 5 years and again not my type of north south center too much finesse for me

  20. Papa—-I hear you. Some say that “the letter” bought management more slack then they deserve. I would feel better if Yzerman was doing it too. But he is not. They are circling the drain towards the trade deadline and they are fine with that. So this ride will be rough for the rest of the season, and they always are outworked and outdone emotionally by the Islanders.

  45. Adam I think Hayes has improved, he’s more consistent and seems more aware. He remains the cuddliest big guy on the ice and the lack of snarl disappoints and is imho what is missing from his game. I’d still try to resign at reasonable price though there is risk he returns to his slacker ways.

Beezle, I agree with that assessment. But he is quite talented. I think they should explore signing him.

  50. Hayes is the answer, he brings it when it counts the most. Mr May!
Kreider is only top 10 all time NYR playoff goal scorer because of his lucky tip ins. If only he brought it all the time like Hayes. Kreider leads in hits every season because he never has the puck. What a slacker!
Team needs a leader like Hayes!!

  52. if hits are the new metric than fast should be due a big contract. On a ppg basis Hayes and Kreider are identical. Kreider has the goals advantage but Hayes plays both specialty units and does fewer stupid things (besides the drop pass to nobody). Neither will be confused with Messier or Gretzky.

  53. Hayes is really good at PP which is why they held him off for so many seasons. Didn’t want to burn him out or increase his leverage in negotiations.
Then there is Hayes’ performance in the playoffs which is not his fault because he was always ready to go to the dirty areas, but somehow just didn’t make it.
That is a $7M for 6 seasons player because pk…

  55. The biggest problem with this rebuild is the scouting staff for the Rangers and their draft decisions. Too often we hear how great their picks are and the “great potential” they have, only to slowly realize that they aren’t nearly as good as they were made out to be. Buchnevich is in that category, Anderson will probably fit that category given his draft position, Kreider is way too inconsistent to fit his “potential”. The jury is still out on Howden & Chytil but I find it concerning with their complete inability to score goals so far. As for the rest of the players we drafted and received in last years trades, we can only hope that the scouts and GM are like a broken clock and get it right twice( Kratsov,Miller), but based on the Ranger history, I have my doubts.

  56. Actually you know what…. you’re kind of right. Not that apologizing would be the “man” thing to do, but ending it. So as the mature one in this ridiculous situation… I’m sorry. Seriously. That’s sincere, not sarcasm. It’s just time for this to end already as I’ve been saying for a while now.

  57. I’m definitely right there with you on that one, MKH.
You can name any player that the Rangers staff has drafted in the last 10 or maybe even 15 years and I can show you a better one on every single other team in the league.

There was a time after the playoffs where I would have accepted your apology to me and just moved one. That time has long passed although I do acknowledge the fact that you sincerely apologized tonight for it.

We’ll just leave it at that as far as I’m concerned.

  59. Seems like a lot of the games that they make close and seem to play well, the other team is toying with them. In a bigger situation, those teams would destroy this team. Rangers were the better team in the 3rd but in the end it didn’t matter. Not much finish on this roster.

Wonder if we see Libor Hajek here after the deadline?

  60. From a strategy standpoint, Trotz comes in and installs the trap or 1-2-2 structure and all of the sudden the Azzlanders D is so much better.
DQ comes in and goes for the 2 man forecheck and it’s a del zaster. When you don’t have the talent and are trying to get young ones to learn a simple structure and just counter mistakes, it seems like the trap is a tenable, albeit not exciting, approach.

  63. Yeah. Which is why maybe Hajek, Andersson, Georgiev, Chytil, heck-maybe Howden would be better off in Hartford? (aasuming they’re all waiver exempt) Let them build some kind of winning culture down there. Bring up the older guys like Beleskey, Tokarsky, Fogerty, Holland, Cole Schneider.
