It’s Go Time: Game 4, Round 1 !

The NY Rangers lead this Eastern conference first round series 3-0 after beating the Caps in DC on Friday, 3-1. Tonight they go for the sweep!

Game 3 was still a very competitve event, though ultimately the Caps were outclassed. Tonight the Caps will be fighting for their playoff survival so the Rangers need to bring at least the same level of intensity to the ice. This one could get ugly too if the NYR go up early; Terrible Tom is certain to be out head hunting if it appears the Caps will fall short of the win. Would keep an eye out for Oshie’s stick too.

Lineup wise, no changes for the NYR. For the Caps, defensemen Sadin and Jensen both skated this morning and are expected to play. Sadin has been out since April 7 and Jensen since April 13 so could be a bit of rust there. Iorio is likely still out after skating praccy in a non-contact jersey; van Riemsdky is out. Aube-Kubel returns at 4th line RW replacing Miroshnichenko.

On this date in history: In 1996, Mike Richter made 27 saves in a Rangers win over the Canadiens in game 6 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

  1. Why does Sam waste time talking about Rempe hits and shifts? Rempe is going to hit someone every shift he is out there. And if he doesn’t, he’s gonna hit two guys on the next shift!

  2. I’m the first to compliment rempe play. Love the kid. But yeh. The goal against was his man in which he lost his check

mistakes happen. Glad lavy still put him on the ice more shifts

  3. They are sleep walking through this game. They watched him walk through the whole team and score. Kreider was a complete spectator. Maybe Dolan wants another home game. Respect your opponent.

  4. Not that they should be looking ahead, but this upcoming third period is more about the next round(s) than this one. End this tonight, and enjoy an all too important rest that they haven’t had in the playoffs in a long time.

  5. If you play a period like that against Carolina, better expect to have 3,4,5 biscuits in our net. Pathetic effort for a team that lost horridly last year.

  6. what scares me most is Panarin looks like last 2 years playoffs. Backhanded crap for turnovers, he must have at least 5 turnovers tonight. Any shots?

  7. I’m comparing in my head: Barzal vs Panarin.

Why is Barzal more successful? I think it’s because he’s stronger on his skates—he’s got more power than Panarin.

  8. the “remarkable” refs arbitrarily bend the rules according to the score, the opponents, the locale. By doing this, they absolutely are controlling the game and the outcome… and in this day of sports gambling??

Just call the game according to the rules!

  9. third sweep I remember:

2007 Thrashers (first Rangers layoff series win since 1997)

1994 Islanders (by a combined score of 22-3, one of the most lopsided sweeps in NHL history)

  10. the rangers all year have played much better coming off extended rest. I think about times when they had at least 5 days off at just the right time to reset and heal.

Trouba definitely needs to heal more

  11. only 4th sweep in rangers history!
shows how rare it is and how at 3-0 it’s very hard to put a desparate team away.

a few days ago everyone thought it was a foregone conclusion that fla and Carolina were both sweeping

    didn’t happen

  12. Yay. Happy for all the players and the fans. Nice for both Fox and Trouba to have a few days off. Carolina will be a different animal. All of the dumb plays we got away with against Wash will end up in the back of our net vs, the Canes.

That being said. How is Carolina so good with 2 scrubs on D who could not play in NY?

    Oh well

    LGR next week
