  2. I wonder if Hank is sick or ailing? The Rangers are off until the weekend when they play back-to-back in Calgary/Edmonton. You figure Raanta plays one of those games so it isn’t as if he was going to get stale sitting on the bench. The only thing I can think of is AV wants to give Vancouver two different looks in goal because we play them out west on the 15th.

  4. hank always likes to play so surprised that he’s sitting tonight with the long layoff till Saturday. Raanta has been good though, should be good enough to beat vancouver as long as the boys come to play tonight.

might also be a bit of strategy by AV… trying to keep the team on their toes against an opponent who has been playing poorly… put the backup goalie in there and make sure the team is sharp.

  5. Tonight’s game will tell us a lot about how good this group is. They should come out flying and dominate, whether they will or not remains to be seen. This is the type of game they loose last year. Vancouver has lost 9 straight they are due for some puck luck. Our boys need to kick some tail and seriously make a statement that they can crush bottom dwellers it’s what champions do!

  6. Kampfer was here for three glorious months, July, August, September, then traded to get Duclair a contract. Makes sense to have him as backup rather than McIlrath. Has actual speed, saw it in Manchester a couple times when he was in Providence. Has a Stanley Cup ring, interestingly, though he never dressed in the playoffs, didn’t get his name on the Cup.

  7. Well, you can’t fault a guy by getting beat out by Hunwick. (s)

McIlrath got beat out by Clendening. So, what does that tell you?

I still think McIlrath can be a decent third pair d-man, just not with this team. He was never going to play for this team.

  8. Great kid, hard worker, really well-liked by teammates … I thought his knuckle-chuck with Simmonds was one of the highlights of last season. But he was never going to play on this team, and he picked a really bad time to have a bad training camp and preseason. I thought he should have played more last season, but when he didn’t I felt his days were numbered. … too bad they couldn’t get anything decent in return.

  9. just stole this froh HF website…..

‘Craig Button was just on TSN 1050 in Toronto.

Sean Day came up in conversation with Bryan Hayes and Jeff O’Neill.

Craig Button said Sean Day has “zero NHL potential”. They asked Button why he felt that way and Button said “he can skate but that’s about it”. ‘

  10. And that’s why Craig Button hasn’t had an NHL executive job in over a decade. All he can do is skate. Even if that were true, remind me again, what’s the #1 most important skill in the league today? Why was McIlrath just summarily dismissed? Riiiiiiiiiiiiight.

  11. Read a quote from Gorton about how he felt McIlrath deserved a chance in this league, and how Florida has been calling about him for a long time.

So…when a team keeping calling like a crazy old girlfriend, all you can get is Kampfer and a condish 7th? Rough

(kampfer actually isn’t useless…he did we enough with Fla after we first sent him there to earn a multi-year deal. But I would’ve rather passed on the player and gotten a higher pick. 5th that becomes a 4th if he re-signs. That would’ve been nicer)

The Yandle/McIlrath pair is ready to ride again.
