It’s Go Time: Game 3, Round 3 !

The NY Rangers look to add to their gutty overtime win at MSG on Friday night with a victory in south Florida this afternoon. They’ll need to overcome a number of challenges first to get there.

Lineup wise – rampant speculation about who is to replace Vesey who was injured in the second period Friday and is now listed as “week to week,” likely with a shoulder separation. Questions also remain about other recent lineup moves. Though Rempe appeared to play well enough to alleviate any concerns about playing him in tight games, will Laviolette still play him outside of MSG? Hopefully so, after all there are likely to be a lot of Ranger fans at Amerant Bank Arena. The Panthers have confirmed they will make no changes to their lineup.

Note: reporters believe the final NYR lineup will not be known until players hit the ice for game time warmups. Lineup box is best guess at 1PM.

Keys tonight: the Rangers need to pick up where they left off on Friday. Keep their feet moving and play a defensively sound game. Where they absolutely must improve is the power play and reducing turnovers, especially when entering the offensive zone. Whether a change in method or personnel, something needs to give on PP1.

On this date in history: In 2015, the NYR fended off elimination with a 7-3 victory
at the Lightning in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Final. In 2006, former Stanley Cup winning NYR coach Mike Keenan was hired by the Florida Panthers as GM

  1. Dumb penalty by Rempe. He’s a lot of fun, but unsurprisingly for such an unexperienced player has no idea what he’s doing out there most of the time.

  2. Subban did a good analysis of KAM’S f ups. They need to clear their heads and man up. Drury also has to request that Sutherland does work anymore of their games. He should get booed off the ice the next time he does a game in MSG.

  3. They need to start faking shots. They keep just putting it into panther legs and skates. They need to do what verhaeghe did in the last game on his power play goal. Wennberg went down and he went right around him.

  4. Theres no way we should be tied. This is just physical domination by the Panthers. Panarin is once again useless in the post-season. How is it possible that Kreider can bull his way through their D?

  5. I feel badly for panarin… he’s done more than enough to get them to this point. He’s a tiny guy. If the rest of the team can’t take the responsibility of being strong and physical off his shoulders, what’s he supposed to do?

  6. They call the Rangers for this all the while the Panthers skate around like Tiger tanks crushing our guys with impunity. Hmmm….. strange….no?

  7. Hey Rich, belated condolences. I’m so sorry you have to go through what you’re going through. I know you know it’ll get better from experience but I understand the pain you’re in right now. I and I’m sure everyone else here is here for you. 🤗

  8. Terrific counterattacking period by the Rangers. Played in-zone a lot but did it almost perfectly, gave Shesty almost nothing to do. And Goodrow, my god. He got killed over at at TheAthletic by Rangers posters this year, not sure how he made out here.

  9. Our team could use some acting lessons like Rodriguez. Wenberg got clocked last game. Was reviewed for a major. If he had stayed down and not gone to the bench he might have gotten the call.

  10. The 3rd period is going to be huge. Shesty has to be at the top of his game. Sutherland will call at least 2 more penalties on our boys in blue.

  11. 93 and or 10 need to step up right now or they just don’t have the berries for playoff hockey. If they want to lift the chalice they have to fight for it. Nothing is free….. usually.

  12. Florida is an excellent team…no doubt. However, this is what happens as a cumulative effect when your opponent isn’t afraid of getting hit. You get no sustained o zone time and their heads don’t need to be up constantly. The Panthers are in scrimmage mode, the Rangers are in fireplace mode

  13. Are the Panthers really this much physically stronger than the Rangers? The Rangers lift weights, work out….do roadwork…. don’t they? It seems absurd…..like the sixth grade baseball team playing preschoolers. Bizarre? No?

  15. Honestly I am not concerned I’ve always had low expectations. I’ve seen this show many many times before. Anything can happen in OT, but they are not playing anything remotely close to a championship team.

  16. I’m hoping that this game it’s not a turning point in this series.we really don’t deserve to win this game. They have us skating in quick sand

  17. Apparently the Rangers are the only team that can be totally dominated. Score 4 goals in regulation, give up a 2 goal lead in the 3rd, then pot the 5th in OT. I am mentally bewildered!

  18. I guess we will have to be happy with Goodrow,Wenberg and Frenchy scoring. I’m down with that. Our pretty millionaires look like crap. That throwing the puck out of the zone stuff drives me crazy. Maybe I don’t know nutthin, but it seems rather foolish to keep having faceoffs in your own zone.

Last but not least. Wheeler must not be ready because putting Kako in is just damn stupid. He brings nothing to the game There has to be another forward for next game. I will take Johnny Bro. He cannot be worse.

Also. Why wasn’t Bob checked for a concussion when Laffy skate hit him in the head?

  19. It’s very helpful and comforting to have our lesser paid players come in and get the job done. Our core vets better start coming down on the pedal. We have been lucky to have a goalie that good. These. Puddy cats have worn us down a bit. Need rest

  20. #8’s high elbow was hanging in the air for an extended period B4 that noggin swipe. His victim had plenty of time to avoid it, took a dive and stayed down while the ignorant zebras ate it all up.

  21. Panerin negative comments are a bit off base. First 2 rounds wasnt he involved in multiple GWG’s? he draws the attention of the other teams best defenders opening up other lines to attack.

Reinhart with his 57 goals was pretty quiet until he wasnt today. Thats what happens in the playoffs. Why to people think that it shouldn’t happen to rangers players too?

  22. laffy backhanders were spectacular. WOW!

also, rempe seems to play with a different rule book against him that sam bennet and math tchacthcukc and lombardo dont seem to have a copy of

  23. How many times this year have we seen it this team. Bad process getting outplayed all facets and good result. If it turns out this is the most successful team ever for how statistically “bad” it has been would it come as a surprise?

  24. if Rempe can’t play more than 5 minutes — and personally I really like him in the lineup, then maybe it’s time to consider Wheeler. If, of cousse, Wheeler is indeed at 100%.

  25. 100 plus shot attempts but 37 shots ..that means a lot of blocks right? Defense hung tough tonight against a big nasty group of forwards that frigging dive constantly

  26. DoosDoos perseverate much?? They have meds that can help you with that.

Miller leads the team in even strength TOI.
His +5 is best on the team.

His zone starts are 61.4% in the Defensive zone, second only to Schneider.

    D Zone starts %:
    Schneider 67
    Miller 61.4
    Trouba 54.2
    Gustafsson 48
    Lindgren 41.9
    Fox 32.6

And yeah, he had a rough patch in this game, but who didn’t.

  27. I’ve been rewatching the game and that Trouba elbow is really bad. That play epitomizes why the rest of the league’s fans see him as a dirty player.

That hit on Crosby 2 years ago was still accidental though.

  28. Wennberg sux, I mean he scored the OT winner

League office is reviewing calls and said Rangers will play short handed in the first period of the next game

Just win baby, 10 down, 6 to go!

  29. Kulikov’s clean hit through the head into the body? What’s to review?

I do think it’s interesting that the league will see past the initial head contact when the hit itself was already illegal because it was interference even without the head.

  30. I see the comments here and most are usually overly negative given the opportunity. It’s a bit boring to be honest. I take comfort every time I read a positive comment. Having said that, you guys know we are playing an extremely tough opponet. Their two top lines out performed ours throughout he game. In such cases it is difficult for Kreider, Zibanejad, Panaring not to look lost and bewildered, no matter how good they should be. On the other hand our bottom two lines outperformed theirs in parts of the game. Still they battleld hard under siege and came out with the W. And that is the only thing that matters at the end of the game. Hopefully the two top lines can find a little comfidence and some flow going in the next one, becouse they wont win a nother one like that. Sometimes a team can look just awful just because and then look completely different tje next. I think the continuous penalties in the first gave the cats a flow that they never lost throughout the game. The cats are a great team. We can also be when we get into the groove. And finally I just have ti say LGR!

  32. I’m not saying Trouba’s hit wasn’t an elbowing penalty. Here’s the point. Rodriguez is moving forward Trouba drives his elbow into his shoulder, shouldn’t Rodriguez’s momentum cause him to continue forward down to the ice? Instead he reacted like he was punched in the face by Mike Tyson.

  33. Rodrigues dove after the hit like he was buckshot. What a joke. Twidiots all up in arms over the play, but crickets regarding Lomborg’s unpenakized “interference+” hit that knocked Jimmy Vesey out of the playoffs.
