Regarding the Steven McDonald award I agree with Anthony, and will be voting for the quiet warrior, Dan Girardi. I CRS, but I do remember seeing that gaping hole in his ankle a few weeks ago. Over the years he’s been asked to take a beating worse than the Berlin wall in 89. And, I still remember his iron man years of not missing a game.
Of course, all this means is that Topo will win it. lol
LGR !!
Awww. Double thanks C! Would that work during center ice blackouts? NHL network is sneaky and can sense my hartnelling zip code …. Of course, not much time left to fret before playoffs
#20 same old, same old on the breakaway. Fake the forehand, go to the backhand. Why can’t he just leap like he does from that swimming pool and emotionally paralyze the net-minder?
Unless you’re an Uncle Daddy, I can’t imagine how you can be twenty pounds overweight as a pro hockey player or basketball player. Un-athletic body-type, perhaps – that happens – but 20 lbs. overweight? Hard to fathom.
Todd Harvey, Dave Karpa, Boogaard, Hamrlik anc many others have been infamously out of shape in the past. It’s different today, but Hayes managed to do it.
This guy, Grab, does it so casually, even without a smile after. Anyway, this slightly reminds “miracle on ice game” – JV amateur college kids against Soviets pros (in Rangers’ jerseys)…Will see a result.
Another meh loss in their least favorite rink. Could have won it early, squandered easy chances, paid the price. Need to do anything they can to avoid home ice for as long as they’re in it.
Hmm. If we had hit the net a couple of times in the 1st that would have been a very different game. Loss not on Annti – 3 good plays by Tampa and he made a few big saves. We got sloppy and paid for it. Whatever. I’m with Carp. One less to tank. But we need to win a couple at MSG coming up…
I don’t like that our goals are coming from Kampfer and McDonut. It’s great that they are contributing, but where is our offense? Some of you guys are upset when others get critical of players like Nash, Step, Zika, Kreider, and Zuc because they’re not scoring goals. You say, “But they’re doing other things well”. Last time I looked, the idea is to put the puck in the net, and, if these guys aren’t doing it, they’re in trouble. I believe that this is a really good team, but until our offense gets in gear, we’re not going anywhere.
To keep this from being too negative a post, I will say that Captain McDonut and Goaltender Raanta had a pretty good game.
Also nice to see THE has his own line of vodka now.
PK is consistent and not in a good way. Will Nash ever score again? Zika and Buch have to hit the net occasionally. Not sure what to make of this group. Who sits when Dan G and Kleiner return? Hopefully they didn’t trade for Smith to Prucha him.
Agree on McD. As for #18, no teammate or Ranger commentator is going to tell the truth about Staal. The very worst they will say is that maybe he’s having an off-year. I know I’m in the deep minority of this issue, but I see rapid and uncorrected deterioration in his once competent game. He is allergic to contact and intelligent positioning. The fact that there are plenty of DMen across the league even more shaky than he gives me small compense. Richie Rich was my prior target, may he rest in peace.
Not to be negative here just an observation on my part. It seems to me that opposing teams look forward to playing at MSG. They love the center stage, they ramp up their game, the Rangers not so much. This is the team we have for the foreseeable future. Real good hockey team just not good enough. Unless Gorton can work miracles, or until they tank a couple of seasons to draft some elite talent what you see is what you get. But I still have hope that someday luck will prevail.
That the boys are delighted to see Glass here tells me something important. It’s not his good looks or his goals or that he buys everyone dinner. They KNOW innately, but won’t outright say that this team is too soft and fancy-pants for a serious playoff run. Their wholehearted embrace of Glass tells me that they know more than management does about the realities around here. And they need more than a Tanner Glass.
Coos can see point about team being thinking they are soft but they have guys that can play with more of an edge..specifically Kreider and Miller ..both having good years but these are the two that we need to step up during the playoffs and bring a more physical component …the have the potential ..its time
I’m concerned that they may have settle into the idea that the first wild card is the place to be and can’t turn it up when the game is on the line. See the last two third period losses against inferior opponents. Not sure they will be able to change their attitude when all the games count in the playoffs. Hope they can turn it up but I have my doubts.
Also Kreider needs another breakaway move. NHL goalies can get their pad to the far post. He has to practice roofing the backhander(not easy) or slide it 5 hole like Hayes. Otherwise he will just keep smashing it into the left pad.
coos, which Rangers have you talked to in order to know what they innately know but won’t say? That’s the weirdest interpretation of happy teammates I’ve encountered yet. But I love it! And I also loved his fancy-pants spin-o-rama pass to Vesey last night, but alas, St. Glass can’t single-handedly fix home ice!
Same as last year, CCCP, I admire Glass, and I infer that he gives good locker room, but his game is too slow for him to make much of a difference. One angle was that he’d come in and energize the place first with his fight and then with his bone-crunching hits. That stuff lasted a game or two, and good on him for providing a useful body until the regs return. Once Fast is back, I suppose they could drop Buch, who’s clearly slumping, but otherwise he’s 13th man.
