It’s Go Time!

In trying to avoid another “GI Time”, the Rangers (1-5-2) will look to break out of their early season skid against last year’s Stanley Cup finalist Nashville Predators (4-2-1) at MSG this afternoon. The Preds have won four straight while our boys, well…You all know how that’s been going. The quest for a complete game resumes as AV has kept the lineup the same as it was in the skills competition loss to the Islanders on Thursday. The coach stands by the fact the he has liked a lot of what he’s seen from his guys despite all of the losing. As our good friend Carp mentioned, Sometimes at the end of a skid, a team will lose a couple that they could have won and they could have won the last two. Let’s hope that’s the case.

Projected Lineup:

Rick Nash — Mika Zibanejad — Mats Zuccarello

Chris Kreider — David Desharnais — J.T. Miller

Jimmy Vesey — Kevin Hayes — Jesper Fast

Michael Grabner — Adam Cracknell — Pavel Buchnevich

Ryan McDonagh — Tony DeAngelo

Marc Staal — Kevin Shattenkirk

Brady Skjei — Brendan Smith

Henrik Lundqvist

Ondrej Pavelec

Also, we could still use volunteers for game reviews. Anyone interested can email ILB at Ilbster@yahoo.com

  2. Wow! Our boys are in a decisive mood (for change and about a time) to kick some hard asses today, not like there is something wrong with that. And it doesn’t look like a typical Saturday afternoon Rangers’ hockey. ladies and gentlemen .

Same one that thought Desjardins was going to make this team the 70’s flyers.

  4. I bought a loaf of Arnold’s bread yesterday that had a sticker that I thought said 50% off, but when I got home, I saw that it was 50 cents off. I am tired of being made a fool of and ripped off. Years ago, if I had a Saturday high school game, somebody would pay big.

Tony DeAngelo, from first pair to power-play specialist. Got two shifts for 1:47 in the first, just 25 seconds of even-strength time. #NYR

  9. Now we’ve done it a win. I didn’t see the contest so I have no comment. But then again 15 shots on goal? This win changes nothing Kreider scored a goal did it deflect in off his back?

  10. I watched the last 8 minutes of the game and the rangers treated the puck in there own end like it was a hand grenade. Lundqvist saved this game from being tied in regulation.

This just in….Nash is trying! not scoring, but really, really trying. Don’t believe me? Ask Joe Missing-plenty
    .
I am off the Kreider train; trade him, thought he would come around but he is either too stupid or just doesn’t give a rats arse about winning enough to give 110% effort. Would trade him for a top prospect or a lottery pick.

  12. I guess it was me… slept through the game, thought it was tonight. I’m torn on who I can’t stand more. Salmon Joe or Joe Buck.

From the sounds of it, they sprinkled some crystal on Hayes’ wake and bake today.

  13. https://www.sny.tv/rangers/news/rangers-acquire-defenseman-ryan-sproul-for-matt-puempel/259269198

The Rangers have acquired Ryan Sproul in exchange for Matt Puempel.

Sproul, 24, has 28 games of NHL experience and is 6-4, 205.

He was a second round pick for Detroit in in 2011.

Sproul is a right hand shot and has 28 games of NHL experience, including 27 games last season, with 1 goal and 6 assists.

He has a cap hit of $625,000 and an actual salary of $650,000 this season before he can become an RFA.

He had 153 points in 172 OHL games and has 95 points in 220 AHL games.

Sproul reportedly had an opportunity to take a spot with Detroit after Brendan Smith was traded last season but suffered a knee injury. (MLive)

He was reportedly set to be the Red Wings 8th defensemen heading into the season and is “he’s big, mobile, has a booming right-handed shot, can quarterback the power play and has good offensive potential.” (MLive)

Sproul reportedly struggles with the defensive part of the game with Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill saying that Sproul needs to be more “assertive.” (MLive)

Adam Rotter: I liked Puempel when he was picked up last year and was hoping he would get a spot to start the season. He had offensive ability but it never materialized on a consistent basis. A mediocre training camp had him in Hartford and seemingly down on the Rangers depth chart in terms of a potential call up.

You pick up a player like Puempel on waivers and hope that a change of scenery can bring something out in his game. The same can be said for acquiring a guy like Sproul, who seems like a bigger version of Anthony DeAngelo. Maybe Sproul develops in Hartford and can be part of the Rangers down the line. It’s a worthwhile chance for the Rangers take in exchange for a guy in Puempel who had likely hit the end of his time with the Rangers.

  14. Intriguing. So the Rangers pick up a big bodied RH defenseman under 25 years old for a guy who was essentially replaced by Cracknell.
Certainly don’t mind adding depth to that particular position.

  15. Nice to win …played harder and smarter defensively against a good team who get away with an awful lot of interference…refs in playoff form…great play by Fast to get lead …a lot of players watch the breakaway instead of getting to the net for rebound

  16. Just to clarify; Fast scored from the blue paint, Haze score driving to the goal and Kreider scored from 6 feet away from goal.
Get to the goal gentlemen. And when you get there, you might want to lift the puck. Talking to you, Nash.

  17. I know the HP umpire cheated the Yankees no less than 10 times in the game. But what an embarrassment the Yankees are. A complete capitulation to two loser pitchers. They acted like Sandy Koufax was on the mound. Just embarrassing. And everyone is happy because they weren’t supposed to be there. When did Yankees fans stop desiring winning and start cherishing participation trophies. I know the “team is young and future is bright” but have these people not heard of injuries. Did they see what happened to a 2015 World Series appearance Mets team? Decimated by injuries. They lost their 1 shot. Who the eff knows when the next time the Yankees will make the alcs again. My time on this earth is running out.

  19. I’m somewhat encouraged by the low shot total for Nashville though the Ranger total of 15 is a little alarming. They have been allowing mid to high thirties every night many of which are “Grade A” chances. Their GAA is going to stay north of 3.5 if they do that every night. Lets’s if they can build on a win or whether they fall back on bad habits. Also Hank can’y play all 82. Pavalec has to do more than mop up. And the 7 D thing can’t last forever. Bring someone up form Hartford so they can roll 4 lines.

Well roundball over, pointball never really started so its all on you NYR. Might be catching up on reading finally.

AV clearly wanting D’AngerMgt. for his shot, not so much for his D. Can only hope they are schooling him in practice.

Jagr says his father is in his late 70s and still has his farm and does all the work on it. So Jagr comes by his NHL longevity honestly!

  23. Speaking of farms, Mao’s father was a farmer who worked hard enough to hire a hand, then more hands. He made enough capidtalist income to send Mao to school where he somehow learned to be a Communist. His father prospered as a farmer/grain dealer capitalist until leaders like Mao ruined everything. Irony.
